Coln St Aldwyns, Cirencester & surrounding area
Without any doubt this is one of the Cotswolds' most attractive villages! Set down a small, 'no-through' lane, Cotswold Cottage is a huge family home that offers ample accommodation across two floors. Inside the property retains countless period features with beams, flagstone flooring and the odd wonky floor all giving it a welcoming character, while outside you have an enclosed garden with space to play or simply sit. We've enjoyed having this cottage for many years and always enjoy a return visit! The kitchen is smart and very well equipped, while the vast living room with it's doors to the garden is perhaps the real heart to the home. Given its size, the cottage is likely to appeal equally families or friends given its size and outstanding location. (An excellent pub and award winning Village Shop are about 200 yards away!) To us this cottage is likely to appeal to those who are looking for a holiday or break in a location which offers the quintessential Cotswolds' experience - walks everywhere, gorgeous villages at every turn and a stonking village pub - the kind of things we used to enjoy doing together once upon a time!

Cotswold Cottage nestles in the stunning village of Coln St Aldwyns, without doubt one of our favourite villages in the Cotswolds. In every sense it is the archetypal English village with a wealth of attractive buildings and glorious looking church. Coln has an excellent pub, The New Inn which serves good food and is well known locally, there is also an award winning village store selling plenty of good quality food, produce and drink. And a recently re-furbished and top of the range play area is just 150 yards from the cottage too. There is even a cafe out the back too so you can have a coffee and cake. For us, however, what really appeals about the village is the way that it feels like one of those places where 'time has stood still' and much of the modern world has missed. There are many walks through and around the village, how about taking the path that follows the river at the bottom of the village.... or over to Haethrop which is similarly stunning? We simple adore it!
Coln St Aldwyns is about 4 miles away from Bibury famous for is Arlington Row (owned by the National Trust) an historic row of cottages that are amongst the most photographed spots in the region. About 8 miles in either direction are the two popular spots of Burford and Cirencester (and easy to reach) each with plenty to see and visit, although Cirencester is bigger and has a wider selection of shops and restaurants.
There is little not to like about the location, it is a true classic Cotswolds' location from which you can enjoy plenty of things to do.
"Cotswold Cottage was just a wonderful place to stay in a friendly and welcoming village. We simply loved the cottage and would love to stay again. Beautifully, simply yet stylishly and tastefully furnished. We just loved it!"cripps 2017-09-14
