Had an amazing stay at Upper Mill Barn.

The property was clean and had everything we needed. The garden was fun for the kids; zip wire, the largest treehouse we’d ever seen with swing, slide and of course the mini golf course being a top hit (for adults too!). The surrounding village was straight from a book and only a short walk to the shop or pub via some cows. We were close to other Cotswolds towns so did some enjoyable exploring. The host, David, was more than polite and respected our privacy. Hope to be back at some point.

We had a lovely stay here – the location is perfect for exploring the Cotswolds.

The hosts were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made all the difference. The house was spotless, warm, and genuinely felt like a home away from home. The kitchen was also very well stocked with everything you’d need for cooking. We’d happily recommend it and would love to return!

Lovely property in a quiet location but close enough to explore the Cotswolds, which is what we wanted.

The Upper Mill Barn is perfect!

! A special place to relax and explore the amazing Cotswolds We stayed 4 nights just the two of us. Welcome pack kindly included milk, bread, eggs, butter and a ginger cake Upon arrival we where greeted by the host David who was so welcoming He left us to settle in then showed us around the grounds, introduced us to Gypsy the resident pig and around the garden grounds The garden has a tree house a zip wire and is a beautiful space full of flowers and herbs and is so calming and also great if you take kids along The barn itself is plenty big enough for 2 people or a family too Its clean and well presented if your someone who likes to cook its well equipped with everything you will need Id recommend taking teas coffee and sugar etc as i always do but if your not used to being prepared its something to consider The internet signal is good too if your taking devices along Bedroom is clean and a nice size bedding is amazingly soft, bed comfortable with lots of storage space Bathroom is spacious, good shower powerful enough and a good sized bath, towels are provided but take your own toiletries and bath products a small hand soap was available on the sink area This special place feels like home its cosy and homely a great base to explore id recommend Bibury, Bourton on the Water, Cirencester and Oxford Lots of walks around locally Coln St Aldwyns loop to Bibury is about 5.5miles nice steady walk nice stop offs for picnic lunch We couldnt have asked for a more perfect place well maybe a bit more sunshine lol Thankyou David and family for sharing your home with us well definately return Vikki and Steve

We had an unforgettable time with David and Kate!

The beautifully converted barn was ideal for our family, perfectly accommodating us and our two little ones (ages 2 and 5). The surroundings were breathtaking—the gardens, the scenery, and every detail made our stay special. Our kids were absolutely enchanted by the treehouse, the friendly hens, and the “big” pig! The location struck the perfect balance—close to everything we needed, yet wonderfully secluded for a peaceful retreat. Spending a full week with David and Kate was a joy, and there's no doubt we'll be returning!

Everything was fantastic enjoyed the stay, however only minor issue was the bathroom did not close properly or have a lock or to hang up your clothes when having a shower, also it will be ideal if you had a smart tv in the living room as I could use my own apps to watch football or movies as the free sat was not always good.

These were very minor issues, we really enjoyed our stay and hope to be back again. Everything else was absolutely fantastic.

When I have stayed in a holiday rental on previous occasions, there has always been a welcome pack of a small carton of milk, couple of tea bags etc.

Also, salt/pepper etc as standard. This would have been a nice welcoming touch and made the first day much easier.

As soon as we arrived our children were so excited as they discovered the tree house, zip wire, slide, swing, crazy golf, pigs, chickens and two friendly dogs ( which they loved).

David let the children feed the animals and collect the eggs which we had for breakfast every morning. The shallow stream was great for a paddle. The setting was amazing and so were the hosts. Thank you for a lovely holiday. We will be back soon.

An excellent base to explore the Cotswolds.

Our kids of 8 and 5 loved the tree house, getting to meet the pigs and the hens and the zip wire. The owners have been super helpful and really went the extra mile to ensure everything was perfect for us. We would love to go back one day. Thanks to David and family for the wonderful experience.

Upper Mill Barn is beautiful and amazing!

My son loved the tree house so much him and my husband slept in it one night. Thanks to David for supplying futons. The fresh eggs were very tasty. We have already booked again for next year as we loved it so much and there is more to explore.

We had a fantastic stay at Upper Mill Barn, it was our first holiday for a while and couldn’t have been more perfect.

It was very clean and tidy and looked just like it does in the photos, so peaceful. The tree house and zip wire were great fun even for our big kids.. David is a lovely man who made us feel very welcomed. The added bonus for us were the lovely animals, the pigs, chickens and their amazing dogs, just added to our stay. The location is perfect for planning days out with so many great places to visit not too far away.

Overall we had a lovely stay - the barn and its grounds are beautiful and we enjoyed visiting the chickens and pigs!

The host and the local community were very welcoming. There were just a few small niggles but these would not stop us visiting again. Firstly, more than just one towel per person would be appreciated. There was no lock on the bathroom door and also no waste bins in the bathroom and bedrooms. Also there were no trouser hangers in the wardrobe. Finally, it would have been nice to have a teapot as we are quite fussy about our tea!

Very nice friendly owners, comfortable relaxing accommodation, great location, a credit to David & Kate.

The barn is beautiful, clean and cosy. My kids loved the garden and especially loved feeding the pigs. The owners David and Kate were so hospitable and made us feel very welcome. We already want to book for next year!

Lovely holiday cottage in a beautiful setting.

David and Kate are two of the most welcoming hosts.

We have just had the most relaxing and enjoyable break at David and Kate's cottage, it's in a very peaceful location but there is plenty to do and see in and around the area the cottage itself is well equipped for a perfect break away. Added bonus of a beautiful garden and lots of wildlife wandering about not to forget David's pigs who helped by eating up all our scraps! Thanks again we hope to be back soon. Joe and Justin

David and Kate are two of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet.

David was the perfect host for our grandson, showing him how to feed the pigs and answering all the questions an inquisitive 5 year old would have. The location is perfect, with the added bonus of a mini crazy golf course, tree house and zip line, that kept our grandson occupied all week. Thank you for the perfect Holiday! Two taps where leaking.

Plumber had done something but not enough. He comes back. In the bathroom difficult to hang your clothes an towels. For the rest ; a marvellous place to stay.

Return visit and loved it just as much the second time as we did the first.

Upper Mill Barn is ideal for anyone wishing to spend a quiet holiday in beautiful countryside, while remaining within walking distance of a pub/restaurant, Post Office and shop.

The owners are very welcoming and attentive to anything you need, or wish to know. A spacious garden rising high to the rear of the property, is equipped with zip wire, climbing frame and magnificent tree-house, would appeal to younger guests. Coln St Aldwyns is conveniently located for visits to attractions in the southern and central areas of the Cotswolds (Bibury, Burford, Bourton-on-the-Water, Cirencester, Fairford) while long, straight roads offer trips to the northern sector within 40 minutes. A delightful walk from the property follows the River Coln some 2 miles to Bibury with its famous Arlington Row of Cotswold stone cottages and large trout farm, where you can catch and bbq your very own trout. What more could you wish for!

Lovely barn in great surroundings.

Barn was clean and comfortable and kids enjoyed the garden activities. Kitchen needs a bit of attention- very basic equipment and some parts need repairs. Also dryer on washing machine not working. No broom or vacuum cleaner to sweep floors. Internet wasn’t great as well. Overall though a good base for exploring the Cotswolds.

This place is nothing short of magical.

The description of the barn doesn't do justice to the amazing garden, which has an incredible treehouse, plus a zipline, pigs and chickens. The owners were very friendly and helpful, without being intrusive. The barn itself is stylishly furnished and well-appointed and, whilst it is not big on space, it is cosy and fine for us as a family of 4. I would thoroughly recommend it.

The accommodation was adequate in most respects but not as good as other other 4 ticks Sykes cottages we have experienced.

It's not " excellent standard throughout". The double bed was very comfortable and the shower was excellent. But the spacious bathroom lacks the facility to hang two bath towels to dry, the shower screen seal was broken, and the bottom 9 inches or so of the light pull string was an unpleasantly dirty brown. The kitchen equipment is rather sparse, eg no microwaveable pans/dishes, and when we arrived the oven and baking trays were unusably filthy. The owner apologised and cleaned it but it's disappointing that we had to point it out. There is a very large sideboard in the kitchen but it was full of miscellaneous stuff, such as cardboard boxes in which had once contained wine glasses, and was no use to us. The patio would indeed be "spacious" if the large rotted wooden bench and the pile of stones were removed, the shrubs cut back and the weeds pulled out. This is the place where it is most obvious that the photos on Sykes' site were taken some considerable time ago the jumble under the staircase is another

Perfect location for exploring the prettiest parts of the Cotswolds. Owners are nearby but not intrusive and left us to relax. Loved the dogs who came and checked us out regularly, as did the chickens!

We had an amazing week at Upper Mill Barn.

The cottage is even better than the pictures with new sofas and a table/chairs set on the patio. Other reviews had mentioned the zip wire and treehouse - these were so much better than I expected, the treehouse is very impressive with a slide, swing and bridge! We also loved seeing the pigs, hens and the family’s lovely dogs. Great location with some walks near by, and we also went to the nearby Cotswolds Water Park, the Cotswolds Farm Park and Batsford Arboretum. Thank you for a fabulous week!

Beautiful spot , David , the owner was charming .

The only slight disappointment was the oven and one of the baking trays was dirty and needed a good scrub ! A real gem in the quiet of the Cotswolds .

I echo previous reviews the garden, tree house and zip wire are a fantastic bonus for children. The house is well equipped, comfy and an ideal base for exploring the Cotswolds. David the host is very welcoming and on hand should you need anything. Thank you for such a perfect holiday even in the pandemic!

We absolutely loved upper mill barn.

It was perfect for a family of four with two young children. The accommodation was lovely, David the host was very helpful, the patio was great but what made it excellent for the children was the garden with tree house, zip wire, chickens and pigs to feed scraps to!! The location was perfect for day trips and walks and the village had a nice play area, post office and small cafe. Thank you we enjoyed our week!!

Lovely accommodation in a great location.

Well equipped, had everything we needed. Very peaceful. Have two boys aged 8 and 10 who loved the zip wire, Treehouse pigs and chickens.

A super ultra rural retreat and good walking country.

The property is difficult to find as the information and postcode show a different street.

No one was there to let us in. Phone number provided was for Sykescottages and not the owner so it was difficult to find out what was happening. Was not a good start to our break. Overall, the property is very nice and we were comfortable there. Only other gripes are that the kitchen area was a bit hairy and the fridge could be a bit cleaner, but otherwise cannot fault anything else.

The Cottage was ideally placed, so that your major tourist places are fairly close.

We have 2 children & the garden is a great place, with the tree house, crazy golf, zip wire & the animals that are around. I think I can safely say we will be stopping at Upper Mill Cottage in the future. I will almost definitely recommending it to family & friends!

Upper mill barn could be a lovely holiday accommodation, but unfortunately upon our arrival we found the whole place covered in human hair and had to spend the best part of an hour hoovering it all up with the pitiful hoover (which we completely filled with hair).

After talking to the owner, we found out that it is regularly used for hair dressing. This would not have been a problem if the place had been properly cleaned afterwards, but the cleaner obviously forgot to clean the floor this time. The owner was very friendly and apologetic, and offered us a partial refund, which we were grateful for. However, due to the fact that it is used for hair dressing, I am unable to recommend upper mill barn to anyone else.

Fantastic for the kids aged 4 & 8.

It was just how kids should go off and have fun in a large garden with treehouse and zip wire. Great local amenities with the community shop and pub.

We just came back after a wonderful time.

Upper Mill is a really lovely property, the photos just don't do it justice. There is a wonderful tree-house that really is genuinely as the name suggests, a house up a tree, rather than a box on a branch! There's also a zip wire that we ALL had great fun on! I think the highlight for my wife were the pigs at the top of the garden who devoured our kitchen scraps every morning and evening. We also enjoyed freshly laid eggs! The property is situated in a beautiful spot amongst idyllic countryside with a river flowing through the property which was perfect for a game of poo-sticks! Highly recommended!

We thought the cottage was lovely, the setting was great, and use of the tree house, climbing equipment, and checking out the chickens and mill stream filled in a lot of happy hours.

Hi just thought I'd let you know how much we love upper mill barn.

It is the perfect retreat with a fabulous tree house we didn't expect and beautiful little stream. We are also loving Frank and Elsie the very soppy dogs who pop in for cuddles and excited squeals from our 16 month old who thinks they're fabulous!

The converted barn was lovely, perfect for me my wife and our 4 month old.

We had a great time there and would visit again.
