Lower Swell, Stow on the Wold & surrounding area
Troutbeck is an absolutely perfect cottage for a family or group of friends looking to visit one of most attractive areas of the Cotswolds. From the front door you can walk into some stunning scenery, into an area that will remind you why this is such a beautiful location. The house is a 'joining in' sort of home for families or groups where there is ample space to spread out. This cottage is situated in the heart Lower Swell, every inch the classic Cotswolds village! Surrounded by rolling countryside this is quintessential Cotswolds in many ways. A cracking local pub is literally around the corner (run by a local brewery) where you are just as likely to see David Beckham as you are to see the local farmer (the former is supposedly buying the local manor!) along with a host of beautiful buildings including a pretty church. As you'd expect there are many walks into the surrounding countryside. As the cottage is located on the way 'out' of Lower Swell it is also very close Stow on the Wold, which is about 1 mile away, a 10 min walk up a foot path.
For those who like to walk, you can reach Stow via a path which goes straight into the heart of the town all in about 30 mins (about 1 mile away). Stow, of course, is one of the Cotswolds most famous market towns, renowned for its quality shops, cafes and restaurants. Very much a working town, there is a market day each month as well some excellent little festivals which pepper the year.
Surrounding the town are a host of stunning villages with their pubs, which are well worth taking in and viewing. There are few better places to be than this area if you want to see 'classic Cotswolds'. The Slaughters are infamous and incredibly beautiful (so too are Lower and Upper Swell!)
Ever popular and beautiful is Bourton on the Water which is about 8 mins drive away, while places such as Burford, Moreton in Marsh and Chipping Campden are equally easy to get to. If you're coming with the children then we would definitely recommend the Cotswold Farm Park (Guiting Power) and the Cotswold Wildlife Park (nr Burford). Again, we could go on, but there is plenty to enjoy.
Finally but not least, you really must try some of the local National Trusts Gardens, incl Kiftsgate and especially Hidcote Manor Gardens, one of the best in the country. We think you've got plenty to do.....!!!
"House was beautifully presented and we were particularly impressed with the kitchen which was probably the best equipped kitchen for a holiday rental we have ever had. Lovely location and a real homely feel to the property. "Mrs Knight 2017-11-03
"Only a couple of comments, all the kitchen knives are blunt, your housekeeper could make sure there are a couple of black rubbish bags, obviously if you were there for the week you would bring your own but for short stays, maybe one or two. We also had to buy some salt and rinse aid for the dishwasher, I know I rang you up and you did offer to pay. But again a very nice property. "heath 2017-09-12
"The house was clean, spacious and provided with all the basic things we needed which was very helpful as we had children with us. Clear instructions and good communication prior to stay. Fresh and clean towels for everyone and the pillows and duvets were branded and great quality we would definitely recommend this property "Ms Perry 2017-08-03
