When time is scarce, sometimes it can be difficult to find a way to get away and relax, away from the day to day goings on at the office and at home. With the Cotswolds covering a large part of southern central England, you’re just a short distance away from one of the most beautiful areas in the UK, boasting some of the most stunning English countryside you’re ever likely to see.Weekend breaks are the most popular with many families and couples that book their Cotswold self-catering accommodation through Manor Cottages. Here are some areas that you may like to consider should you wish to come and explore the area for a weekend;

BathTo be honest, there’s very little reason to leave the city of Bath itself for the entire weekend, especially if you’re a lover of shopping or a foodie (or both!). Its regular farmers markets are superb and there are hundreds of shops from well-known high street names to boutiques and independents to keep you occupied. Couple this with the world-famous spa and museum as well as the gorgeous sandstone buildings and ornate Pulteney Bridge and you’re unlikely to want to leave. Just a stones throw away however, are the beautiful towns and villages of Castle Combe, Freshford and Bradford-on-Avon, home to many of our delightful cottages.

South of StratfordRunning southerly in an almost straight line (as the crow flies) from the birthplace of Shakespeare (Stratford-upon-Avon), you’ll find plenty of towns and villages to explore. As well as Stratford, we have many self-catering cottages in these places; Moreton-in-Marsh, Chipping Campden and Stow-on-the-Wold to name but a few. Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’ is within easy reach and is full of beautiful pubs and restaurants to treat your family and is close to many attractions.

OxfordshireThe beautiful and varied county of Oxfordshire is home to the eastern end of the Cotswolds AONB. We have many period self-catering cottages in which you can stay and explore everything that this area has to offer. The town of Burford is widely known as the ‘Gateway to the Cotswolds’ and is home to the Cotswold Wildlife Park, providing fun for adults and children alike. Chipping Norton is a very unpretentious town full of independent stores and has a wide array of antique shops for those wishing to pick up a bargain. Further afield, the ‘dreaming spires’ of Oxford are just a short drive away, as is Blenheim Palace & Gardens, birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill.
