Louise “Coming from Australia we loved the opportunity to stay in something as old as The Forge.”
Everything was there that a guest could possibly need and it was spotlessly clean. Getting the key was easy. Our stay was wonderful and the only thing that I would have loved to see was something on the history of the Forge just to satisfy our curiosity. Thankyou for a wonderful stay.

- Louise, June 2024Thank you for your comments Louise. We’re so glad you enjoyed your stay. It was originally the forge to which locals brought their horses to be shod! I spoke to someone in his eighties, who remembered bringing horses here on his own, aged 6! We believe it was built in about 1670 or thereabouts. Property Owner

Valerie “A very comfortable and accessible property suitable for those with mobility difficulties.”
- Valerie, January 2024Michael “We always travel with some reservation as often cottages leave a lot to be desired.”
However this was the exception. Clean and well equiped with top of the range white goods, including the Aga. The Aga is not for the faint hearted but just turn it on chuck the food in and keep checking it. Well situated close enough to Bath and other Tourist spots.
- Michael, November 2023Thank you Mick; we’re so glad you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner
Margaret “The Forge is a great base for anyone wishing to explore Bath, Bristol, Cheddar.”
All close by with good transport, park and ride facilities. As for a summer break to lounge in quiet garden, it would not really be suitable, there is no garden,( a bench by front door on gravel drive.) plus it is on a very busy road as stated. An Aga is the oven, so we used the microwave for quickness. Good basic facilities as expected. Shower, nice bedroom, facing main rd, so take earplugs. Parking can be found on the side road.
- Margaret, October 2023Paul “A small well equipped property with everything you could need for a short stay.”
Well placed for Bristol, Bath and surrounding attractions.
- Paul, September 2023Jackie “Nice little cottage just a shame it was listed as being on a very busy main road.”
So we were unable to have the windows open. Too much road noise. Great for getting into Bath/Bristol. The toilet is VERY low for people with mobility problems. The bedroom is a lovely size but the bed was so small. Appeared much smaller than a double. We have a double bed at home and struggled for space in the bed.
- Jackie, September 2023Thank you for your feedback Jackie. I'm glad you found The Forge to be conveniently located. The proximity to a main road is mentioned in the property details; obviously this is not for everyone, but many of our guests have not found it to be a problem. The bed is a standard double, but of course might seem small to anyone used to a larger bed at home. We hope nonetheless you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner
Michael “The Forge cottage was clean and well kept and the owner was very pleasant.”
However we had trouble with the parking. We were not allowed to park outside of the cottage as the next door neighbour said that we were restricting the entrance to his drive, which was not true and he didn’t ever park in his drive. We were told to find some where else in the street, which would be outside of some one else’s house. The owner said to park out side her driveway and she would contact me if she needed access. It wasn’t a very good start to our holiday, so we would not be recommending the cottage. Sorry.
- Michael, September 2023I’m so sorry you had this unhappy experience with parking, particularly as you rightly say, as you were not causing an obstruction. It was most unfortunate that it was the afternoon school run at the start of the school year and there was an unusual number of cars parked outside for a brief spell. There is very rarely a problem with parking near The Forge; indeed this is the first difficulty we have been aware of in four years. The nearby streets are all unrestricted so there is almost never any difficulty. I hope this one occasion didn’t spoil your week and you enjoyed the rest of your stay. Property Owner
Andrew “Nice cosy cottage, good position for visiting lots of places, fully equipped,”
- Andrew, August 2023Lesley “Very comfortable cottage in a prime location for days out.”
The facilities in the cottage are great.
- Lesley, July 2023Thank you Lesley. We’re delighted that you enjoyed your stay in The Forge. Property Owner
Kathleen “The Forge was great ,clean and comfortable , had everything we needed for our stay, we also made use of the Newbridge Park and Ride which is just a short drive away ,and enjoyed Bath without the hassle of parking.”
Thank you for the welcome text and biscuits.
- Kathleen, May 2023Anne “Very well appointed and comfortable.”
Quality of the fittings very good. The owners have tried to cater for every need. Only criticism is the AGA cooker. Would be much easier and quicker to use a traditional cooker especially after a day out.
- Anne, May 2023Chris “I enjoyed my stay at the Forge.”
Lovely, comfortable accommodation and easy to reach friends and family in and around Bristol. On street car parking was always available. The Forge facilities covered all of anyone’s needs. The Wifi enabled me to stream on my laptop which was a bonus. Value for money in these difficult times was a further bonus.
- Chris, May 2023Thanks for your feedback Chris. We’re very glad you enjoyed your stay in The Forge. Property Owner
Colin “A little road noise but earplugs fixed that.”
- Colin, April 2023Colin “The place was great.”
It had everything we/you would need for a restful stay.
- Colin, April 2023Many thanks for your feedback Colin. We’re so glad you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner
Dawn “The property, although small, was just what we wanted.”
It was cosy and comfortable, fully equipped with everything we could possibly need for our stay. Although close to a main road it never bothered us. All instructions were provided about everything we could possibly need to know during our visit. No criticisms at all. Well worth the money we spent on our short break.
- Dawn, April 2023Thank you Dawn. We’re so glad you enjoyed your stay at The Forge. Thank you for taking the trouble to leave us your review. Property Owner
Sophie “We had a really wonderful stay at the forge, so good to get away for Christmas and the forge provided the perfect setting for it.”
The aga was much easier to use than I was anticipating! It had everything we needed and was so clean and comfortable. Thank you!
- Sophie, December 2022Nico “Well equipped cottage.”
Location was not perfect due the traffic on the road.
- Nico, July 2022Megan “We enjoyed our stay at the forge.”
The property was immaculately clean and could not fault the facilities. We had a text message on arrival from the property owner to advise us to contact if we were to need anything. The property was laid out perfectly and was very comfortable and cosy. A definite 5* from us!
- Megan, May 2022Ken “This was our second stay in this property which speaks for itself!”
It is a lovely cottage and spotlessly clean.
- Ken, February 2022Leon Matthew “Really cute place and very well-equipped.”
Spotlessly clean throughout, cosy, and the bedroom in particular is such a beautiful room! The road noise was more audible than I’d envisaged I must say - especially in the mornings. Maybe we are just sensitive to it as we live on a very quiet street, but it was enough to wake us every morning. Lovely stay though overall and a really nice place. I will say; I have to agree with a lot of the other comments and say that if it was my place, I would definitely swap out the Aga for a conventional fan oven. They’re great and I love them, but as an all-rounder, especially for those moments when you’re starving hungry or just want to make some lunch ‘quickly’ before heading out, they just take far too long to heat up and in my experience, also take longer to cook some things - even in the roasting oven. It stopped us cooking as much as we’d have liked purely down to not having enough time, which was a real shame. Really think that would be a good investment to make for future guests, as for us, it would probably prevent us from staying again, and so maybe others too?? Just some feedback anyway :) Thank you again, had a lovely little break.
- Leon Matthew, February 2022Dean “Fantastic , everything you needed and more , we was only using it as a base really to sight see bristol ect but you could live there !”
!!! Every need catered for . A fully equipped kitchen . Great place . On other reviews they mention the parking but it really is not its less than two car lengths and some mentioned road noise but we didn't find it a problem . Great communication with the owners *****
- Dean, November 2021Nigel “Fantastic cottage and excellent value.”
We met the lady owner on arrival, she was very friendly and helpful. We had no problems whatsoever and followed the instructions left in the cottage. Would and have already recommended this cottage to friends and family.
- Nigel, October 2021Andrew “The Forge was exactly as advertised and pictured online - it was very clean and had everything we could possibly need for our stay.”
There was some road noise at night, but the location made a great base for easy access to the local area so it was a small price to pay! We had a particularly good meal at La Campagna in nearby Paulston (as recommended by someone else on this website). If you're planning to cook your own meals though, the Aga does take some getting used to! We really enjoyed our stay at The Forge and would definitely recommend a stay here!
- Andrew, July 2021Betty “So very clean ,spotless ,it was very very hot while we were away so found it difficult to sleep ,especially no opening window in bedroom so slept with door open to the road not the safest , and no outdoor space , beautifully presented cottage very well thought out , needed fans , ideally situated for touring , loved it .”
- Betty, July 2021Lydia “A well renovated, clean, well appointed and well equipped cottage.”
A perfect location for a stay in Somerset and all the sights. Although on a busy road the noise was not too intrusive and something you get used to. The only one niggle was the small double bed. Only because we are used to a kingsize and would have preferred slightly more room. I think the bedroom would be big enough to accommodate one. Otherwise, the owners have thought of everything even down to a heated towel rail which felt luxurious!
- Lydia, July 2021Michael “Salt and pepper condiments would have been nice.”
All other facilities exceptional.
- Michael, June 2021Gill “We were disappointed with the cleanliness of cottage, especially in the bathroom.”
Great walk in shower, badly let down by an old and mouldy shower mat, unusable. The toothmug was disgusting, really dirty with debris from a previous user. These are basics in a cleaning routine. This wasn't the experience expected.
- Gill, June 2021David G “The Forge was very well appointed with excellent household items for your use.”
Only draw back was I had to go to IKEA on the way home to buy bath mats because the wife really liked them!
- David G, May 2021Ken “This is a very well equipped cosy cottage well situated for lovely walks and beauty spots.”
It is also within easy access of Bath and Wells.
- Ken, May 2021Richard “The owner Sarah was very helpful and accommodating.”
It was nice to have all facilities on one level.
- Richard, April 2021George “The Forge is a very comfortable holiday home with all the appliances and gadgets that you need - a real home from home.”
It is fitted out to a very high standard and is well maintained. It is in a great location for visiting Bath, Bristol, Wells, the Cheddar Gorge and Weston-super-Mare. The weather was kind enough to us to allow us to visit all of those places and, on the one day when it rained heavily, we were very warm and cosy reading our books and watching television.
- George, September 2020Susan “The cottage is ideally placed for many attractions.”
Unfortunately because of the situation we didn't feel confident to go to many of them.We drove around the lovely countryside particularly enjoying Cheddar Gorge. We did have two meals at The New Inn at Farmborough which were very nice and we also went to Clevedon on the coast which was lovely ( Much more our cup of tea than Weston Super Mare) The weather was also a bit unpredictable so we ended up having a very lazy week in the cottage- reading and watching television. The cottage was ideal for this, warm and comfortable, so although our holiday wasn't quite as normal,we still enjoyed it. The owners were very pleasant and helpful when the electricity went off ( briefly) one day.One small thing ( which didn't spoil our holiday- it's just an observation ) We could have done with a slightly more crockery and cutlery. We found we had run out before we even had half a load in the dishwasher. This meant we had to wash up some mugs for our fifth cup of coffee or run the dishwasher half empty.

General instructions good, didn't make it clear heating was on constant, not a massive fan of the Aga, but very clean and comfortable, would recommend the Campagna at Paulston, but not the New Inn
- John, November 2019Anthony “Wonderful place to see”
