About the location

ROWINGTON

Warwick 5 miles; Royal Leamington Spa 5 miles; Stratford-upon-Avon 10 miles; Kenilworth 11 miles;

The ancient village of Rowington lies in unspoilt Warwickshire countryside and offers many lovely walks including the Heart of England Way. The Grand Union Canal is close by as is the village country pub and restaurant which serves home-cooked food and real ales. The village boasts Rowington Manor, once owned by Catherine Parr and Shakespeare Hall, where it is said Shakepeare's family lived when he wrote 'As you like it'. There are two National Trust properties close to Rowington, Baddesley Clinton and Packwood House, with Wroxall Abbey, another fine house and the country seat of Sir Christopher Wren also near by. Close by, Lapworth Village is strongly associated with the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, as the leader of the plotters, Robert Catesby, was born and lived here, and his tomb is in Lapworth Church. Henley-in-Arden boasts one of the most unspoilt high streets in the country, which contains over 150 buildings listed as being of Special or Historic interest. The town has its own Heritage Centre, itself dating back to the 12th century, with many restaurants, traditional pubs and individual shops, as well as a selection of sports facilities including golf courses, tennis courts and fishing. Visit Stratford-upon-Avon, which is steeped in history and culture and lies on the banks of the River Severn. Experience Olde England by visiting Shakespeare's birthplace and many other houses connected to his family, which are open all-year-round and boast 16th Century furnishings and landscaped grounds and gardens. Enjoy one of his many plays at the world-renowned Royal Shakespeare Theatre. The River Avon offers river cruises, rowing and motor boat rides and many lovely walks. Warwick with its imposing medieval castle, Royal Leamington Spa with its beautiful Victorian and Georgian architecture and many unspoilt Cotswold villages and towns all make a great family day out.
