“Property was clean and in good order, we have stayed in many holiday cottages and this was above average, a couple of points that I feel could do with attention, we found food left in the microwave, toast, bacon, sausage, lucky we used the microwave the first day if not it would have got very smelly.”

Also some of the crockery had chips, a mug and a plate. And although it didn’t affect the stay the flatware was mis matched. Such a shame in a very nice property, this wouldn’t stop us booking this place again. One small issue we find in all cottages is the lack of a night light. Such a shame in a very nice property, this wouldn’t stop us booking this place again. One small issue we find in all cottages is the lack of a night light. As your not familiar with the layout finding your way to the loo in the middle of the night when you half a sleep and not wasting to turn lights on do not to disturb your partner is difficult, we normally take one on this occasion there was not a socket for us to use. I post this in hope that some landlords might consider installing.

About the location

LYDNEY

Chepstow 9 miles, Monmouth 12 miles; Gloucester 20 miles; Chelttenham 27 miles; Bristol; Cardiff 41 miles

The small, thriving town of Lydney is situated between the eastern edge of the Forest of Dean and the River Severn in Gloucestershire. Lydney has a very good range of shops, a leisure centre and sports facilities, as well as pubs, cafes and restaurants serving a wide variety of meals. The magnificent Royal Forest of Dean, England's largest oak forest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, boasts numerous trails that can be explored on foot, by bike or on horseback. Caving, abseiling and a high wire rope course are for the more adventurous, whilst fishing, golf, kayaking and canoeing are other popular activities in this unspoilt area. The ancient caves of Clearwell are nearby, as are the Gloucestershire Way and Offa's Dyke Path. Symonds Yat boasts natural scenery and straddles the beautiful River Wye with its magnificent limestone outcrop, popular with climbers, and well-known for its viewpoint. Visit the nearby historic walled town of Chepstow with its impressive Norman Castle and the celebrated racecourse, whilst the pretty market town of Monmouth, with its mixture of elegant Georgian mansions and Victorian courtyards, or the lovely town of Ross-on-Wye with its timbered Tudor houses and delightful riverside walks, both offer excellent shops, pubs and restaurants. The unspoilt Brecon Beacons National Park and Black Mountains, as well as lovely Cotswold towns and villages are just a little further afield as are the cities of Cheltenham, Gloucester, Cardiff, Newport, and just across the Severn Bridge, Bristol and Bath. Lydney is ideally placed for enjoying the delights of Gloucestershire at any time of the year.
