Lower Brailes, Chipping Norton & surrounding area
Lavender Cottage, is a true favourite with us at Manor Cottages! A period property that is so welcoming when you arrive and one which has retained its charm thanks to the care the owners show - unsurprising given that the cottage has been in the family for generations! It is kept spotless inside and out and styled very much in keeping with the building's history and style - it's appeal is that it is cosy, waarm and beautifully comfortable. The rooms throughout are all a good size, light and bright; in our opinion an ideal choice for a family getaway. It's a very peaceful location, it has a large garden to the rear which has fruit trees, a large lawn and a variety of places to sit and relax, it's a little gem. One thing that caught our eye (strange admittedly...!) was the fantastic vegetable garden across the road, it's a work of art!
Situated on the edge of a peaceful village and surrounded by some of the most beautiful Northern Cotswolds' countryside, this holiday cottage offers an excellent quality of accommodation across two floors, packed with period features as well all of the modern conveniences you'd expect. We highly recommend this cottage, it offers a very desirable destination and an ideal base for a Cotswold holiday. The local pub/ restaurant and shop are only a 10 minute walk away, while the newsagent, butcher and bakery are about 15 mins walk away.

Lower Brailes is a small village set in the northern areas of the Cotswolds, located about 8 miles from Chipping Norton, one of the Cotswolds best known market towns. The village is historic and quaint, but still a thriving one today. There is hotel/bar about 10 min walk from the cottage which the locals use regularly. There is also a village shop which sells all the basic foods. The village itself has an unusual history as once upon a time, hundreds and hundres of years ago it was considered one of England's largest villages, bigger than Birmingham!! One can only suspect that village smust be have been tiny back 'then'!
Today, the village is a quiet setting with a stunning church which was built by the workers housed in The George Hotel. The church was once thought to be a cathedral by all the surrounding villages and towns and is proud to house the 3rd biggest and oldest set of 6 bells in the country which to this day still ring to a wonderful sound.
Surrounding Lower Brailes are many similar classic villages, particularly known for their unique local 'Hornton' stone and which nestle in the rolling countryside. Many of the villages have very good pubs too and there is some excellent walking as you'd expect.
Chipping Norton is a very good place to visit for provisions and there are also plenty of little shops to browse. The antique market, open all year round, at Bliss Mill has a very good reputation and deserves a visit alone. The town has various restuarants (Indian, Thai, Chinese for example) along with some gastro pubs tooo.
There are a wealth of places to visit in the local vicinity, including historical Shakespeare's Stratford upon Avon and Warwick with its historic castle and plenty of beautiful villages and towns in the Cotswolds. The historic university town of Oxford also is just a short drive away.
