“We booked for a big birthday celebration for 20 people and we had a wonderful week!”

The barn is perfect to accommodate a large party for meals etc but having the farmhouse as well meant there was lots of spaces for people to use at different times. The location is wonderful with beautiful views and lots of birds for the birdwatchers in our party! Some lovely pubs nearby and close to Hay, Hereford for trips out. The farm shop is very handy too and has pretty much everything you might need. We ended up staying during one of the hottest weeks of the year and the owners were very ...

“Had a super family stay in both barn and farmhouse.”

Owner and housekeeper were lovely and ever so helpful. The farmhouse is quirky and beautiful, but has very low ceilings - watch out anyone over 5’4”! The barn is spacious and bright. Beds were comfy and bathrooms clean. Lovely peaceful location and great views. Only downsides were lack of outdoor space near the barn, such as a lawn (but the outdoor seating and hot tubs were nice) and the fact that you couldn’t walk anywhere from the property itself- the footpaths were closed and the roads are so narrow that walking with the dog on them felt unsafe. We had to drive and park to go for a walk. However, despite these points we had a lovely time and the accommodation was great and we would recommend it to others.

Thank you so much for your 5 star review. Really glad to hear you had a super week. Thanks also for the constructive feedback. The listed farmhouse was built in 1635 and a few internal doors are not full height by modern standards (were normal in the 1600s) but the ceiling heights are fairly normal by modern standards. For future reference, in addition to the large farmhouse garden, the Barn can make use of the lawn area below the car park as well as the gravelled area and patio between the houses. We are in the process of finishing the garden area behind the Barn which has a grass/lawn area and a patio area, so are hoping that will be opened up in September too. I’m so sorry you couldn’t find places to walk. There is a footpath which runs straight from our land lower down the main drive which goes straight up to the Cat’s Back/Black Hill which is always open as it runs up the side of our fields. It also goes down towards the river. Also, the fields above the farmhouse, alongside the drive and below the farmhouse, approx 25 acres, can be used by guests for walking, if there aren’t sheep in them or, if sheep, with dogs on a lead. There are many footpath apps but we find this one useful: https://www.komoot.com/guide/1679263/hiking-around-craswall We do understand your concern about the narrow roads as I used to have the same concerns as my husband cycles out a lot but I am much more relaxed now as he cycles out often for 1.5 hours and most of the time rarely meets a single car, plus our neighbours and the locals also walk dogs along it. There is so little traffic which is why we love it too. But we have only learned that over time. So I am sorry we hadn’t made that clearer. “The property was fantastic and well maintained we all had a great time including our dogs, Would not recommend the farm house to anyone 6ft plus due to the lovely traditional low farm house ceilings.”

The house keeper was quick to support some small issues we had and thank her greatly, But Sykes I rang repeatedly on the 2nd and morning of the 3 rd aswell as emailed about key code etc to never have an answer or response! Glad the house keeper answered ! Would recommend the houses again great walks and villages

Hi Steven. Thanks for your positive comments about White Haywood Farm and Barn. They are much appreciated. Regarding the Farmhouse I’m sorry you banged your head! There weren’t many 6’ people around in the 1500s when the farm was built. I think height is an issue for some ground floor doors rather than for the ceilings themselves. We have ‘Mind your Head’ signs over a couple of doors and we will look at whether we could put up a few more. Property Owner

“Fantastic accommodation set in an amazing setting at the foot of Black Hill and the Cats Back.”

Very quiet and rural. The Barn was warm and welcoming and the addition of a hot tub made it a great holiday. All rooms and facilities are fairly new so everything worked well and the beds were very comfy. The owner and housekeeper were always available. Overall couldn’t rate it more highly

“We had a lovely stay at the barn over New Year’s Eve.”

With 8 adults, 2 toddlers, 2 babies and a dog, a venue big enough was a tall order but this certainly fit the bill. There was plenty of room for all of us plus a lovely open plan living space. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook for us all. The hot tub was an added bonus, making a nice respite after some cold winter walks. The barn is quite remote and you would need a car to get around, but if you’re looking for peace and quiet, and beautiful surroundings, this is your place. If you are staying in the colder months I would recommend you stock up on logs for the log burner as this made a huge difference in the living area. Thank you Jeremy for a wonderful stay. We had a great time!

“The Barn is beautiful - spacious, recently renovated to a high standard in the most beautiful landscape.”

We loved the walking, especially up to Hay Bluff and cycled round the Olchon Valley (very few cars was great). We liked learning about English history in Hereford and also visiting Hay on Wye. The local village pub served fantastic food (Bull’s Head). My daughter had space to breathe. Loved the place, best Valentine’s Day ever

“We were a party of 9 adults, 1 baby and 2 dogs and the accommodation at White Haywood Barn worked really well for us.”

The owners provided a cot and high chair on request. There are 5 bedrooms, 5 bath/shower rooms and 4 toilets. 3 of the bedrooms are large, spacious rooms with en suites and 2 are much smaller containing single beds and with a shared toilet. The living space is brilliant with two long tables to eat at and plenty of comfy seating. What was really nice was being able to put the baby to bed and sit around together in the evenings just enjoying being together. The kitchen is really well equipped with everything we needed, loads of crockery, glasses and cutlery. They provided dishwasher tabs and washing up liquid and had left some milk in the fridge for our arrival. I arranged a food delivery for the first night which also worked so well for us. We met the housekeeper, Sheila, on our arrival and she was really friendly and helpful, making sure we settled in and I had e mail contact with the owner whilst we were there too. The hot tub got some use and it was great to have some outdoor furniture since the weather was lovely. Although we didn’t use them there are a couple of pubs in the nearby villages and those we met who lived nearby were very friendly, we were invited to some local events happening whilst we were there. There are plenty of walks to do in the area so you wouldn’t need to go far to find things to do, but actually just enjoying the barn itself was a pleasure. The farm is tucked away from the roads and so quiet. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place and would use it again if I return to the area.

“Was lucky enough to have stayed at White Haywood Farm earlier this Spring and couldn’t resist going back for a second bite the following month.”

Perfectly located in an elevated position, the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons can be accessed direct from the property for those who fancy donning walking boots and exercising limbs……and a rather splendid, generous family sized hot tub awaits those who return looking for a good hot soak, whilst enjoying unfettered views looking down over the valley (through which the River Monnow runs) – and, in my case, accompanied by a large glass of something. Accessed via a long private drive and newly renovated with all the mod cons one would expect, the provision of Wi Fi, with excellent signal, is there for those that need to remain in touch with distant offices or are working from home. Can whole heartedly recommend the property to anyone who is after some genuine P & Q.

Accessibility – most of the Barn is accessible at ground floor, the kitchen, dining and sitting room and most bedrooms & bathrooms via a few steps at the front but also via a ramp suitable for wheelchair access in the hot-tub area. This ramp can be seen in the photos showing the hot-tub and is very helpful for wheelchairs and the elderly who can not manage steps.
