It was a lovely setting with some great walks nearby OS app helps.

Rose and Thistle pub does a great Sunday lunch and is in walking distance. Even with the extreme heat it stayed cool due to the trees surrounding the lodge. Great for dogs too.

West Lodge at Rockbourne is a beautiful 18th century gatehouse that has been sympathetically modernised.

The furnishings and decor are of the highest quality and is equipped with everything one needs to make your stay comfortable. Outside, there is a patio and a garden equipped with comfortable patio furniture -perfect for breakfast or a glass of wine in the evening. Laura is a welcoming host. A delicious hamper of scones, clotted cream and jam, milk, artisan baked bread and eggs is provide. The gatehouse is a haven of peace and quiet. An exceptional holiday destination. Rockbourne is a quintessential English village - thatched cottages, beautiful gardens, ancient church and village pub 'The Rose and Thistle'

This is our second visit to West Lodge and we have booked a third for next year.

It is one of the best of the many we have stayed at. It is clean and well equipped to a high standard. It offers a lovely peaceful retreat. The owner is friendly and easy to contact if required. It makes an excellent centre for touring the New Forest, the coast and towns like Salisbury and Lyndhurst. Recommended unreservedly.

Cosy, peaceful, well equipped - the perfect getaway for a couple.

West Lodge is one of two gatehouses and has be restored and adapted as a holiday cottage to a very high standard.

It provides comfortable and well thought out accommodation for two people. Communication with the owner was easy and helpful. Directions for using the appliances was clear and easy to follow. As first time visitors to the area the folder with a wealth of information and suggestions was particularly welcome. Having stayed at many holiday cottages this one ranked amongst the very best. We have already booked to return in the new year.

A wonderful place to stay in the lovely village of Rockbourne - like staying in your own mini-stately home.

Our Lodge (West) was extremely well equipped and ideal for staying with our two dogs to explore the local sights (The New Forest, Cranborne Chase, Salisbury, and many more). It was lovely to have cream and jam scones, sourdough bread, milk, juice and eggs waiting for us - plus a good supply of logs for a cozy open fire. The underfloor heating was very effective at keeping the living areas nice and warm and dry. Highly recommended - and the Rose and Thistle up the road as well.

West Lodge is a comfortable and well maintained property, which has everything you need for a break away.

The decor is very nicely done and we felt at home immediately. Would recommend and would return.

This is our second time staying at the lodge.

The lodge is situated in the nice rural part of Hampshire and in a nice town of Rockborne. As always Laura, your hostess has thought of everything and the property is very well maintained. Very cozy and well equipped, It is very comforting to be there and I have to say the bed is probably one of the most comfortable beds to sleep in.

We've been to West Lodge 3 years in a row, its perfect for a peaceful getaway.

No streetlights, very little traffic and a lovely garden for our dog! Bear in mind the garden is not dog proof, there is a handy fencing provided by Laura to create a run for your dog if they are prone to 'exploring'. We find Rockbourne the perfect centre from which to explore The New Forest. Recommend it 100%

This is the second time we have stayed at West Park.

It is a lovely quiet location with good walks nearby. Laura, the owner of the property, is charming & very helpful. It suits us well staying with our two Golden Retrievers.

The lodge is fantastic.

Very well equipped, little extras thought of and provided. Welcome flowers, scones, milk and juice. Immaculate throughout and any issues dealt with very quickly. Our second stay which was fabulous, thank you.

Very well-appointed and furnished.

Lots of little extras. Very welcoming. Host very kind. Beautiful setting and great opportunities for days out. Sadly our experience of the Sykes booking procedure was far inferior to previous years. The lack of telephone / email options and changed dashboard made it very difficult to rectify our omission of pet when we booked. Website sent us round in circles but eventually got Chat to sort out the simple issue of adding pet. Cost-cutting I dare day has led to poorer customer service.

This was our second time staying in West Lodge and again we found it very comfortable, clean and well-equipped.

We also loved the garden which provided plenty of shade in the heatwave and was teeming with wildlife. The surrounding countryside is very good for walking and the Rose and Thistle pub in the village does lovely food and beer. The perfect holiday!

A cosy and well equipped property.

We really enjoyed our stay here - plenty places of interest to visit and local walks. The local village pub 'The Rose and Thistle' is within walking distance and serves fantastic food. We will definitely return again.

Property is in perfect location for peace and quiet, but also towns and cities.

It has it's own parking bay and shortly after arrival Laura (the owner) will arrive and make sure everything is perfect for your stay, and if needed is always a call away if you need anything. The property has heating throughout and a radiator in the bedroom for colder months, including heated blankets on the bed. A great open fire with supplies will keep you toasty throughout, and don't worry if you don't know how to set up as instructions are there. Plenty of supplies have been put in the kitchen to welcome guests, and if your not sure on any of the appliances there is a book full of instructions and places to go. There is nothing that has not been thought of here, and the whole property has such a cosy vibe. TV has freesat so no issues with the signal and a very good wifi system to connect everything too. You have plenty of space outside the back for seating and eating, and supplies for the fire place in the hut. Whether you choose to view the area everyday or just put your feet up and relax this offers everything you need. You will want to come back time and time again!!!

This was the latest of several visits to West Lodge (we have also stayed in East Lodge which is lovely too but a bit nearer the road which is busy at certain times of day).

We love it here - Laura is a great host, nothing is too much trouble, and the cottage is cosy and well equipped. It was warm and snug during Storm Darragh and very convenient for everywhere we wanted to go. I am sure we will be back to this beautiful part of the country.

Very comfortable lodge well placed for exploring the New Forest, in a quiet location.

West Lodge has everything you need whilst on holiday , including thoughtful things like a hose for washing down dogs , bikes or boots. Footpaths are close by for quick dog walking , previous reviews have mentioned difficulty in walking on road to access these, but I didn’t find this an issue as all drivers slowed down and moved to the other side of the road when they met us, it is a 30 mph zone and I would say 99% of drivers were compliant. Lodge is warm, I did light the fire the first night but didn’t need it after that, if I had ample supplies of wood are available for you to use. The couch is very comfortable as is the huge bed. All in all I would totally recommend West Lodge to anyone.

Very nice lodge located in an excellent location for a peaceful break away, great local walks especially if you have a dog.

Local friendly pub 5 minutes walk away and local shops supermarkets are only a 15 minute drive to Fordingbridge. Very clean and comfortable lodge with the very friendly helpful owner Laura who wants to make your holiday as good as possible during your stay. A larger TV would be good but that’s just our preference for any improvements. We would be very happy to stay at the Lodge again.

WHAT CAN WE SAY I KNOW PERFECT

We had a fabulous time staying in West Lodge.

Access on arrival was easy, arranged before we got there with the owner. Laura, the owner let us settle in and then came by later to meet us both and tell us if we needed anything to contact her, which was comforting. The property itself was spotlessly clean and welcoming. There was nothing in the lodge that we could think of that was missing for our stay. We had fresh scones with jam and fresh cream, waiting for us, a vase of fresh flowers on the table was a lovely touch too. There was tea, coffee, herbal tea, cappuccinos, fresh orange, milk and a bottle of prosecco waiting for us :) It was much appreciated. We found the bed very very comfortable with quality bedding. There is a handbook with all the information to help with things in the Lodge and plenty of information with places to go and walks from the door too. There are useful maps and torches for navigating lanes and paths if you are out walking into the evening for your safety. We enjoyed sitting in the garden and listening to the birds with a glass of wine or two :D it's very private. You can order a breakfast hamper as an extra from Laura, the owner, how to order is in the handbook. We ordered one and it was delicious, all fresh local produce from Hockley's farm shop, topped off with a fresh loaf, made by Laura. It was enough for two days of breakfast, and it was delicious. The area is pretty, Rockbourne with it's thatched cottages and little bridges over the stream leading into the owners gardens. While walking we stopped and chatted with a lady netting some trout out of the remaining water and place them back in a safe place, she told us the stream is spring fed and dries up so she tries to rescue what she can. The Rose and Thistle pub was closed during our stay sadly, it literally is a stones throw away from the lodge too. Fordingbridge is good for a walk around and children like to paddle in the river, pretty little place with a large co-op which we used. We visited the Roman Villa which is well worth a visit if you are interested in history. We went to the New Forest, Godshill to start with after the lodge's gardener had a chat with us during our stay while he was mowing grass and told us it was beautiful up there, so thank you to him. The New Forest is vast and is absolutely gorgeous, stopping at the various car park areas and having a wander. We had never been to the New Forest before and had no idea there was going to be donkeys, horses and cows wandering around freely, we absolutely loved it, such a fantastic place to unwind. Oh, and grab an ice-cream while you are there! We travelled to Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove which is around an hour from the lodge, well worth going to visit if you have never been before, we had been before though. Parking was £10 half day or £20 for a full day. We had fish and chips from Finley's while we were there, they were delicious. All in all we had a great 4 day break and we will return one day, everything was perfect from the lodge to the surrounding area. Thank you! Alison and Mark.

Great location 10 minutes from New Forest, owners really lovely, nice touch with home made scones, milk and orange juice, dog hamper and dog tags a brilliant idea, bed lovely and comfortable, shame the local pub has closed, has been bought by village residents as a community pub, but not open until the end of August 2024.

West Lodge was very clean and well equipped.

Extremely dog friendly, possibly more so than some other places we have stay. Laura and her husband were very helpful. We would recomend this property to anyone who wants to explore this area.

An amazing property, the attention to detail by Laura was second to none and we can honestly say that this was the most catered for place we have ever stayed in.

West Lodge was very cosy, comfortable and well equipped.

It was a great place to return to after a day's walk, with plenty of room for drying wet clothes after we got soaked one day. The garden and neighbouring woodland meant there was plenty of wildlife to see and hear. The owner had provided a huge amount of information on local attractions which was very useful. We would definitely stay there again.

Extremely comfortable accommodation.

Thoroughly enjoyed our short stay . Frankie our little Sprocker loved her new home for the short time we were there and was very much included for with the thoughtful doggy basket. Thanks to the owners for giving us the wonderful opportunity to stay in such a lovely home whilst exploring the wonderful surroundings. The welcome pack for us was also very much appreciated .

Amazing property clean fresh and inviting.

The scones and jam were a nice surprise when we arrived. A very quiet relaxing location but within a short distance to many interesting places to visit.

The property was lovely & had everything you could possibly need, lovely welcome pack of scones, jam,cream, milk& juice, It was nice & peaceful with a lovely pub just up the road, we found it wasent walking distance but we are in our 70s so not that mobile plus no pavement.

Lovely, cosy cottage.

Could do with secondary glazing and a net curtain in the bedroom window as the road was noisy and cars could see straight in. Lovely private garden with some wildlife coming in, which was a bonus. Bed really comfy and warm. Kitchen well equipped and comfortable lounge. Had occasional issues with WiFi dropping out and TV losing its signal, but being in a remote area it was understandable. A lovely week was had though, didn't want to leave.

Loved our stay, the bread and scones were a really nice touch.

The Lodge was perfect for the 2 of us, peaceful stay. Morning of our departure we were visited by 2 deer who came into the garden whilst we were having breakfast. If we were going to be in that area we would be happy to stay there again.

I have stayed at West Lodge many times; the accommodation is perfect for my needs.

My specific needs regarding my allergies are taken into account prior to my arrival. Another 'plus' for me is the location and surrounding countryside, which is really wonderful. A lovely local pub is just down the road and local shops are a conveniently short drive away.

Good location in the delightful village of Rockbourne with an excellent pub the Rose and Thistle with fantastic food. Lots of walks locally and easy access to the New Forest. The property has underfloor heating which meant the property was all lovely and warm. A large garden which we would certainly use more in the summer months.

The cottage was very comfortable and Laura had put a lot of thought into making our stay enjoyable.

There was a lot of local information which was useful. The flowers and scones etc were much appreciated . We thoroughly enjoyed our week.

Everything that you would need and lots of information on the property and amenities in and around the village. Warm, inviting, comfortable and lots of space.

The accommodation was exceptional, beautiful inside and outside the property.

The owners were welcoming but did not intrude. Hampshire is such a beautiful place. I would definitely recommend it, it's perfect for a relaxing getaway. The only addition I could recommend is fencing around the side of the property for the dogs.

milk.orange juice.marmalade and coffee was such a nice thought and they were so nice great quality.only thing for us was the garden wasn't completely secure for the dogs but everything else was really good this is a great cottage

What an amazing place West Lodge is and Laura a welcoming host.

It was so clean and provided everything you needed for your holiday. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have slept it. The dogs also had their own hamper which they were impressed with. Brilliant location for the New Forest and the Hampshire and Dorset coast. Dog friendly pub in the village with delicious food and well worth a visit. We will definitely be returning next year.

We picked 3 separate cottages over a 3 week timeframe this one being the last one and it proved itself to be truly a level beyond outstanding.

Sleep quality is excellent and you wake up feeling refreshed. The host Laura has succeeded in providing the renter the very best experience in comfort and amenities. The attention to detail is extremely impressive. This cute and unusual property is spotlessly clean, very well equipped and very comfortable. Located in a lovely chocolate box village with an excellent pub just a few minutes walk, is very central to many attractions. Rockbourne is a delightful village set in the Hampshire countryside. My only regret was I booked just a week, next time it will be for much longer. As far as I am concerned this place deserves 6 stars out of 5

This is the best holiday accommodation we've stayed in and we couldn't fault a thing.

Beautiful location, good quality furniture & fittings, everything you needed was there even portable garden fencing to keep our little puppy safe. Plenty of country walks and pubs close to the lodge and only a short trip to Fordingbridge for anything you couldn't get from the village store. Our stay at West Lodge was amazing.

..the property was a delight to stay in...bit disappointed to see the garden was open but happy to find some fencing in the shed so that we could put this across the side of the lodge making it enclosed for our dog....some way of securing this fence to the bollards.....string/cable ties....would have been helpful to make it more secure....many thanks to all concerned.

Exceptionally dog-friendly, with even their own little hamper of goodies provided. The host was very welcoming and kept in touch throughout. Would definitely recommend, and indeed plan on returning myself!

Lovely cottage, great stay Thankyou

West Park Lodge had been thoughtfully equipped & we had everything we needed for our short stay.

The dog basket was also a thoughtful extra. We would stay again if we were going to visit the New Forest. West Park is situated in an attractive area, with good pubs & Fordingbridge is an interesting town which we did not have time to explore properly. The Lodge is also within easy reach of the coast- Lymington- Mudeford etc, making it a perfect venue from which to explore.

West Lodge is excellent quality accommodation in a lovely village with a welcoming pub.

The hosts are extremely helpful and have thought of everything to make your stay really enjoyable.

Laura was very helpful for anything we needed and helped us with the petrol situation at this time .

We had our dog with us, it doesn’t mention that the garden isn’t enclosed, but saying that it did have some flexible fencing in the garden store which was easy to use, also we don’t expect our dog to go on any furniture but when you get there it does tell you that they must not go in the bedroom not even sleep on the floor in the bedroom, just a couple of things that I think should be mentioned in the description, as you can’t leave a dog in the property on its own, if you close the door to the bedroom then it is on its own unless you have a cage.

Loved the super king sized bed, so big that if I wanted to tell my wife anything I had to text her. We prefer the quieter areas so didn’t bother with Bournemouth, Poole etc. (been before) and was quite happy taking it easy in the garden thanks to the brilliant weather we had and going walks in the forest. If you have dogs they need to be well behaved or on a lead at all times when outside. We sorted that problem by ours being on extended leads with the lead handles fixed under the garden chairs. If there was anything I could pick fault with there was only one and that was the garden recliners, it felt as if you were being stretched on the rack and far too difficult for me to get my old rickety bones out of. All in all we had a lovely stress free relaxing time and my wife was more than pleased in having managed to get a Toby Carvery for her birthday.

The location & lodge was absolutely fantastic, everything you needed & very clean.

The little notes and touches were very thoughtful. The pubs nearby were great and so many places to visit we definitely needed more time there. Very lovely and the most amazing long weekend ever!

A fabulous hideaway for a week.

Quiet apart from the sight and sounds of the abundant wildlife. Convenient for trips out, a history geeks heaven on earth with so much to see within an easy distance. In short …a well appointed holiday home in a beautiful location and somewhere I’d be very happy to come back to again. Thank you to the owners

Wonderful cosy lodge in a brilliant location.

There a walks to three local pubs from the door and the New Forest is 5 minutes drive away. Whilst some of the walks are on country lanes, the traffic is very light. The underfloor heating makes sure the lodge never feels cold and the large garden is lovely. You do need to have an obedient dog as the garden is not enclosed.

This cottage is delightful.

Very well kept. The owner was helpful and friendly. Certainly one of the best we have stayed in. The surrounding area was great to explore and we found some beautiful walks and drives in the New Forest.

access to walking from the door is not safe the roads are narrow with no verges the traffic is very heavy morning and evening the only footpath is not cut sheep on it covered in droppings

We had a lovely relaxing short break at West Lodge.

The accommodation is perfect for the two of us and our dog. Everything was thought of, from dog treats and bowls and maps for walks and even a hose which we needed for cleaning him up before going back in the lodge. There were lovely welcome items such as scones and bread and many extras .Information packs about the area and maps and ideas were many. It is so well thought out and cared for. The lodge is cosy and warm too with underfloor heating and i guess in the summer sitting outside the french doors would be lovely after a days activities. The village is quiet after the rush hour to work and again at home time.. There is a pub also but walking the road needs care as there are no pavements especially at night. There are many dog walks around although our visit was somewhat waterlogged i am sure the summer is lovely. This place is a real retreat but also a visit to Salisbury is not far and worth a visit as is Shaftsbury and Fordingbridge. We loved our stay at West Lodge and were very impressed in the work involved in restoring the lodges, so well done to Laura and all involved.

Owner Laura welcomed us to our retreat just after we arrived.

Flowers,milk, home baked bread and scones and cream that a Laura had supplied, made a great relaxing start to the holiday. Well equipped, clean and comfortable holiday retreat. Owner had also gone to the trouble to supply sundries that may have been forgotten, ie toothpaste, butter, sugar coffee, oil etc. There was even a dog hamper with a disc to attach to our pets collar saying that they were on holiday giving the phone number that is supplied at the cottage incase he got lost

We felt like we were home from home and couldn’t have asked for more.

2of the 4days due to local water problem water was brown and undrinkable, we knew garden was unsecured but very busy estate and surrounding roads advertised as being able to walk they are busy and too dangerous to walk along with a dog.

Estate is a kill zone not a fox hunt went past our cottage which was upsetting and could hear shooting. You should mentioned these points i would never have booked. Worse holiday i can remember

The setting is perfect,peaceful and set in wonderful country.

All the required facilities are provided.The lodge is situated near to the wonderful New Forest.Primary routes are near to take you for days out in Hampshire,Wiltshire and Dorset.Even when the weather is bad it is a pleasure to be there.This is our second visit to this property this year.I think that nicely sums it up.

This was our third holiday using Sykes Cottages and this latest venue exceeded all our expectations.

We arrived to find milk, bread, coffee, tea plus scones and cream supplied for us. The accommodation was absolutely spotless and the attention to detail was outstanding with even a shopping bag supplied. Information was supplied in abundance with recommendations of local amenities.

My husband, I and our rescue dog stayed over Christmas 2018 so that we could visit family and friends in Hampshire.

We chose West Lodge for it's detached and peaceful setting, the garden, and because of it's proximity to the New Forest. The Lodge more than met our expectations and the owner was very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The Lodge was tastefully decorated for the festive season and the welcome gifts of prosecco and mince pies - along with a wealth of other complimentary items - had us exclaiming like excited children! There was even a hamper in the hall containing items for your dog should you wish to borrow them. Everything had been carefully thought out. The information pack provided was both thorough and helpful too - We ordered from the listed Indian restaurant in Fordingbridge on our first evening and the owner was wonderfully friendly. All in all we had a very relaxing and happy stay, would highly recommend West Lodge, and we'd definitely book again should the occasion arise.

Luxury bed linen, comfy bed allowed for a peaceful nights' sleep. Thoughtful touches throughout. Labelled keys, instructions and safety information provided for all of the appliances. 'A Things To Do' folder, walks/restaurants/shops etc. Torch/lamp handy for the short walk to and from the village pub/restaurant and to the bathroom in the pitch dark. Laura welcomed us to the property and ensured we had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. After we had explored our temporary accommodation we sat down to our complimentary home made scones, clotted cream and jam. The treats didn't end there, breakfast the following morning consisted of complementary free range eggs and filter coffee. The lodge is well placed for exploring the New Forest. The Winchester Cathedral, Jane Austen tour was most enjoyable. A peaceful retreat to get away from it all.

We stayed at West Lodge for 3 nights at the end of July 2017.

We enjoyed our stay so much that after only a couple of hours in the property we decided to book again for Feb 2018. What a beautiful and tranquil place to holiday. Thank you very much Laura.

What a treat for my birthday.

Everything has been thought of including for the dogs - a lovely touch. Beautifully and tastefully furnished - a real home from home. Local pub is lovely with great food. Plenty of walking from the door with the New Forest a short drive away. Hope to visit again.

We have just got back from a 5 day stay and have had a great time.

If you want a get away from it all break this is the place for you. The lodge is excellent. Everything you need is there including a dog basket full of towels, hose pipe, biscuits and even a tag to tell people where you are staying if your dog gets lost! The lodge is very comfortable, immaculately clean and very cosy. The bed is so comfortable. The village of Rockbourne is beautiful and the Rose and Crown does an excellent Sunday lunch and is dog friendly. There are some lovely walks around Rockbourne, all of which are of an 'easy' standard. Excellent!

We booked West Lodge via Hideaways Cottages, and had decided on a 4 night stay, Friday through to Tuesday.

Easy to find on the edge of the attractive West Hampshire village of Rockbourne, we arrived just after 3pm on the Friday with our dog, Nessie. I had read some reviews and had an awareness that West Lodge was to be to a high standard, and this was confirmed when we drove up to the lodge, which appeared very sweet, and entered to the hallway. The underfloor heating was immediately apparent, which was welcome as dusk approached and the temperature cooled. We were very impressed with the box in the hallway containing a variety of dog items, eg a towel for her muddy feet and fur, a pack of poo bags, even a spare dog lead! Oh, and a tub of dog biscuits in the kitchen! And so to the kitchen/dining room/lounge. Beautifully appointed, with comfy furnishings, well equipped modern kitchen, and table chairs. The open grate and stack of wood whetted our appetite for a fire later, and there was a very comprehensive array of books, leaflets, and of great value two Ordnance Survey maps of the New Forest and Salisbury areas. They came in very useful! A couple of binders contained more information about the lodge and the wider area (eating out, walks, etc). Oh, and scones, home made damson jam, butter, milk and eggs!! The kettle was on in no time. The other rooms were all very clean and neat, with an excellent bathroom, very modern! The garden area was surprisingly large, with an outhouse full of more wood for the fire, which we didn't need in the end.

West Lodge really is a relaxing place to stay.

The owners have tastefully decorated the Lodge and put careful thought into making it comfortable and a haven to unwind. Its positioned in a beautiful area and perfect for walking. Our stay could not have been better and we will certainly be going back for another break. Thank you!!

The total experience of having the lodge to stay in was absolutely perfect for a peaceful getaway.

The location was ideal with excellent position for visiting the areas of the New Forest, Bournemouth, Poole, Southampton, Portsmouth and even Brighton. The amenities available within the lodge enable any visitor to either fully cater or just use as an overnight base. My wife and I would certainly re-visit and recommend to our friends if any are visiting the area for a long or short stay.

This little cottage is a peace of heaven!

Everything we could want or need was there waiting for us, making our holiday as relaxing as it could ever be. The location was fab for days out into the forest, with the secluded garden meaning evenings in with a glass of wine were also luxury. Couldn't have asked for anything more, thank you Laura.

My husband and I visited the New Forest with my sister and brother in law who have been staying at the East Lodge for some nine years now.

The Lodges are perfect for a getaway from it all break - set within the heart of the New Forest they are an idyllic hideaway. They are decorated to a high standard and have underfloor heating throughout. On arrival, we found a welcome card and homemade scones and jam - a very nice thought and very enjoyable. \ There are folders with a host of information for those wanting to explore the area - many great walks on your doorstep and The Rose & Thistle pub just down the road serves exquisite pub food (the steak and kidney suet pudding is a must try - you won't be disappointed). Cable TV, books and DVD's are all available and there is a washing machine, dishwasher and very well equipped kitchen - I can't think of anything that we needed that wasn't there.\ It really felt like home and we look forward to a return visit.

We really loved The Lodge, it is modern, clean and very comfortable.

A good comfy bed is really important and this one didn't disappoint. Good base for visiting lots of N.T. properties plus the Motor Museum at Beaulieu. Enjoyed food at The Inn at Cranborne. Many thanks for the scones and eggs. We hope to come back soon!

Nice lodge!

Enjoyed the free range eggs left for us (and the scones!). Sampled all the local eateries and if you like good, old fashioned pub-grub you can't go wrong with The Compasses in Damerham - lovely grub! Great dog friendly beaches at Hengistbury Head also. Had a lovely short break!

The Indian take away in the cottage booklet is great.

If you're looking for a quiet and cosy little hideaway from your busy hectic world, then you would be doing yourself a favour by booking some time in this fabulous little cottage.

The owners have obviously gone to a lot of trouble to make your stay at West Lodge as care free, easy and comfortable as possible, and in that they have succeeded, and then some. The living accommodation is clean and open plan, with a lovely open fire to relax with on a cold winters evening, or afternoon!! The small but very well equipped kitchen is thoughtfully laid out.The bathroom is also a well- thought out luxury, with both shower and bath to relax in, and the bedroom with it's oh so comfortable bed, which trust me you won't want to leave, although if you don't you'll be missing out on a stunning part of the world, with The New Forest on your doorstep, and The World Heritage site that is Stonehenge just up the road, not forgetting The Historical Dockyard at Portsmouth, all within easy travelling distance. And last but not least the kind welcome from Laura and her homemade goodies with free range eggs, to give this little treasure of a cottage that local flavour. \ If you book, do enjoy, I certainly did, so much so I didn't want to come home, and judging from the comments book in the cottage, neither does anyone else who stays here.

We stayed with our sons in both the East and West Lodges; the accommodation was as ever to the highest standard and what makes it perfect is the additional provision of eggs, milk, bread and even fresh flowers and scones laid our ready for our arrival.

The underfloor heating really gives a real touch of luxury whilst the open fire if you prefer it, is perfect for cold winter evenings. With the Rose and Thistle just 5 minutes away and its close proximity to the New Forest it is a dream.

This is a charming lodge, you only have to look at the outside when you arrive to know that all will be well.

It has been beautifully renovated with every need seemingly catered for, a very comfortable bed that you don't want to leave, great bathroom and kitchen with plenty of room everywhere. Laura is helpful and friendly, great pub nearby with very good food, Fordingbridge a few minutes away with a supermarket and The George, another good pub, on the river.\ As we live in Spain, the refuse system completely threw us but it didn't seem to matter. Would have preferred 2 armchairs instead of a sofa but looking at the guest book, others preferred a sofa. Can't please everyone. Very good wifi unlike other places where we have stayed. Unfortunately no mobile phone signal but that seems to be the norm in the UK. Highly recommended.
