It was in fact a gas burner which had been disconnected for safety reasons. This was a huge disappointment as we had booked to stay for a week over Christmas. It was not getting up to temperature very quickly so it took forever to cook anything and then it could not maintain a temperature of 200 resulting in an insipid looking Turkey, which took much longer than it should to cook. The owner helped out by giving us access to another oven but it meant we had to go outside and around the back of the property with all of our baked food for a full Christmas lunch. Furthermore, the Oven had previously had problems for another guest three months before so it seems the owner ignored their feedback and the oven was not fixed. We did not have a working oven all week apart from help with Christmas day. All this and we are still waiting for any compensation given that Sykes cottages website does not recognise our booking reference and we are waiting for them to contact us.

We are sorry that you felt misled by the images on our website. While the property description did state that the cottage had no log burner and instead featured a gas fire, we fully appreciate that the photographs may have caused confusion. To prevent this for future guests, we have now updated the listing to clearly state that the gas fire is decorative only. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
We also appreciate that you experienced unforeseen issues with the oven. Unfortunately, the appliance did prove to be temperamental during your stay. We understand that this was not ideal and acted quickly to assist by providing access to an alternative oven on Christmas Day. The oven has since been completely replaced, and no further problems are expected.
We were genuinely pleased that these issues did not prevent you from extending your stay by an additional night and hope this means you still enjoyed aspects of your holiday despite the difficulties.
