The School Room

We enjoyed our stay in a School Room.

Welcome drinks with biscuits, very pleasant and friendly lady Sarah who showed us everything upon arrival, gave information about pubs and restaurants in the area. The school room is a large and spacious room with a fully equipped kitchen, a large comfortable bed, 2 couches, Tv, a lots of books and some games. A short distance to centre with lots of shops, pubs, restaurants and to a Kington park with playground. Thank you very much for everything and we would like to recommend The School Room.

Its such a lovely large airy room that it was comfortable to sleep in, even during a heatwave. All the facilities we needed and a great place to bring bicycles as you can put them in the passage just outside your front door. So central to the beautiful historic town of Kington which seems to get even better over the years.

We felt completely relaxed and at home in this property which had absolutely everything you could need and is located right in the centre of Kington Sarah was a perfect host who lives in the adjoining property and therefore is in hand if you need her We would definitely return

A super clean well furnished very large open plan space, Comfortable bed and sofa's (one each to lounge on!

) Fully equipped well laid out kitchen , A very inviting charming garden, well worth setting up an afternoon tea for yourselves if you have the time and weather. A lot of history to this building, It's very well placed in the market town, for walks and exploring the wonderful surrounding countryside. We wish you all happy stays at The School Room and especially the welcoming and highly knowledgably host Sarah. Thank you again Sarah, see you soon as soon can bee(sic) It was an absolute hoot.

We loved the School Room - it was even bigger than we expected, and wonderfully cool in the recent heatwave.

Despite being so close to town it was totally peaceful, with a beautiful and tiny courtyard garden. Very good base for walks in lots of directions.

A lovely place to stay.

Everything we needed was available. A central position in a small town with good facilities.

The School Room is a characterful and comfortable place to stay.

(The biscuits and cider left for us was a very nice touch, thank you.) Walks out to the countryside on the doorstep. Just minutes walk to the town centre where we enjoyed the Broad Bean cafe, bought from two High Street butchers, and made several visits to the Swan pub. Altogether, a really relaxing few days in Kington. A lovely place with friendly and warm people.

For a Victorian building we were very comfortable, so Sarah had thought of and provided everything we needed.

Especially appreciated the bedside lights that also charged our iPhones, and the welcome bottle of cider with French nibbles! Thanks John & Terri

The School Room was a delightful venue for our Easter break.

It mixes a historical feel with more modern day facilities and has a real charm. The owners were very welcoming and left us some lovely welcome gifts for our arrival. Despite being a single room, it was lovely and spacious and amply comfortable for a family of 4. The area itself is really beautiful, with great walks from the doorstep and a selection of lovely local pubs to eat and drink at if desired We enjoyed a great meal at the Swan Hotel, played darts and even joined in with a fun karaoke evening! I would definitely recommend this venue if you love walking or want to explore the Welsh, English borders.

The School Room was everything we could have wanted and more, such a lovely place to stay.

We had all we needed and Sarah was very attentive and thoughtful leaving the wine and biscuits! A great place to stay for our weekend away, visiting Hay on Wye on Saturday and Leominster on our journey home on Sunday.

The accommodation was spacious, comfortable and well equipped - a perfect bolthole for a couple. We would definitely book again if we were visiting the area.

Enjoyed our second stay.

Good value. It is a studio apartment but is really roomy. Decently but not over equipped kitchen. There isn't a freezer but there is a small icebox in the fridge you can get some ice cubes and a small bag of frozen veg in it. The village has a decent selection of shops a short walk away so you can top up easily. Very nicely located for walking or visiting the area.

We were pleasantly surprised at the spaciousness of the accommodation, despite everything being in one room.

The situation was ideal, with just a short walk into the town and a short walk in other directions out into the countryside. So many good walks from the door!

Its very roomy with with many a nod to its history. Ideal spot in Kington and great for visiting the surrounding area.

We had a really lovely break, the area is gorgeous.

The property is spacious, comfortable and airy. It is in the village but is not noisy. It is open plan/studio (apart from the bathroom) so is ideal for a couple. The owner was very friendly and there was a nice welcome pack which we enjoyed. The kitchen has enough crockery etc to be able to self cater. The fridge had an ice box freezer compartment, but there are some very nice food shops very close by, with two convenience shops for the last minute things in the evening, and a reasonable sized co-op the other side of the village but still walkable. There were pubs and takeaways too so food was very easy. The nearby car park was very busy on the Friday and Saturday evenings, it also services the local residents and the pub restaurant so I would recommend getting back early on those evenings. It was lovely to see such a vibrant village in a great area. Fabulous for walkers.

Overall, very nice experience.

The owners were very thoughtful and provided everything we needed for the holiday. The place is clean and cosy. It’s great that we can control our own room temperature. We were staying with a 15 months baby. The place is baby friendly, enough toys to entertain her, but no sharp corners to cause the danger. We will stay again when travelling in the region next time.

We have had a lovely stay in the School Room.

It provided us great comfort and a good base for exploring nearby tourist attractions. In particular, having two little kids with us in one big room was perfect for us.

Roger and Sarah were our hosts.

Sarah met us on arrival and showed us the School Room. It was much bigger and more spacious than we had expected. The kitchen was well equipped, with everything necessary for preparing and cooking meals, if you wanted too. The living are was very comfortable and the huge bed, super comfortable. The location is excellent for walking or for taking a short drive to explore. Roger and Sarah were readily available to answer any queries we may have had, but respected our privacy. We enjoyed a very comfortable stay here.

The cottage has everything you need for a relaxing visit to Herefordshire. Kington itself is a lovely little town with a few shops and pubs, so picturesque, we would certainly visit again!

Tastefully adapted and furnished, very comfy bed, although the settees are a bit narrow and hard, plenty of basic kitchen equipment and crockery.

Although I was staying in the summer, it was chilly in the evenings and the owner showed me how to put the heating on - with the flat's long, thick curtains I can imagine it would be cosy in the winter. Near the town centre with everything nearby, it is quietly situated and no problem with parking in the square.

What a lovely place to stay!

It was well placed and easy to find, and Sarah was very welcoming. The place itself had everything I needed, including a pile of leaflets about local attractions and walks - something not found everywhere, but really helpful.

Have stayed at this property before.

Although all in one room, it is very spacious and each area well planned. It is very well equipped. It was clean and the welcome pack was much appreciated. The property is situated in an area with easy access to local tourist areas. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this property.

The School Room was absolutely beautiful and very clean. The owner had even left us a box of biscuits, some wine and a bottle of elderflower juice. Would highly recommend staying there.

A lovely and relaxing stay in The School Room, extremely quiet location.

A great base for exploring the local area and further afield. Plenty of information leaflets to look through and plan your time in Herefordshire. The biscuits and Prosecco a welcome touch.

The School Room is a gem of accommodation in a beautiful area of Welsh Borders between the Welsh Hills (you have a stunning view of Bradnor Hill right out of your window) and bucolic black and white villages of Herefordshire.

The period property is converted into a tasteful, comfortable and spacious accommodation with all modern conveniences. The owner is an interesting and delightful person eager to satisfy any possible request. We greatly enjoyed our holiday there and fully recommend it. Lena and Chris.

The property was lovely and met the description, My husband felt it would have been nice to have access to a free view tv box, there was a DVD player but we could not locate any DVDs?

I would have liked a second key. Information on locally known places to visit would have been nice there is usually a visitors book and people make suggestions like the best local pubs for dinner. There was an excellent pub nearby called The Swan. We did not see the owner which we thought was unusual but they kindly left their mobile number and made phone contact with us about key collection . Parking was easy on the local square - we did hear there may be charges to park there in future? Local shops opening was a bit hit and miss the tourist information was never open I appreciate its difficult when staffed by volunteers - There was a bottle of wine and biscuits on arrival that was very kind. I have a disability and found the mats on the hardwood floor slippery but it was fine I just moved them, we appreciated being able to turn the heating on ourselves if it was cold. My husband thought the towel rail had a bit broken off? Some warning on not to follow your TOM TOM and stay on main roads I think is advisable we had to revert to old fashioned menthods of stopping and asking for directions

This is the second time my husband and have stayed at the School Room, I was not disappointed.

It’s a delightful place to stay, it has all the facilities you need for a comfortable stay. Kington is a lovely town, with lots of great walks and places to eat. It’s easy to reach the surrounding towns and Hay in Wales, where we visited the book festival.

My wife and I felt at home from the minute we went into the School Room.

The accommodation comprised one large room cleverly designed with a well-equipped kitchen and dining area,a cosy corner with settees,a t.v. and a bookcase with a collection of excellent reading materials. To complete the layout,there was a comfy bed,a generous wardrobe and a huge opened desk fronted by an easel with a “Welcome” message scribed on it.Sarah,the host, gave us a brief history of the building and made it clear we could ask her or her husband Roger’s advice at any time. There was literature available clearly giving ideas of local walks on and around Offa’s Dyke plus details of eating and drinking establishments in Kington and the surrounding area. Our first visit to this part of England,we’ll be back! Graham and Val Palmer

What a find!

We loved the School Room. It was spacious, quiet and full of character - very quirky. The bed was so comfy and the heating really efficient. Sarah and Roger were lovely hosts and they left me gluten free biscuits, Tiger bread and elderflower presse. Kington is a super town with some independent shops and good eating places. I’d definitely return!

We loved it so quaint, quite old fashioned but part of its charm.

The holiday house was quite delightful.

The old school room and setting were charmimg and cosy and we felt very much at home. Everything in the home was of a high standard, including bedlinen, towels and a very comfortable bed. The location was handy for walks, convenience shops and pub/restaurants and cafes as well as other nearby attractions such as Hay-on Wye and Hereford.

We would happily recommend The School Room in every respect for anyone thinking of taking a holiday in the Welsh borders.

The accommodation, all in one room, is pleasant and spacious. Take note, though - as there are no other rooms to retreat to, it's a struggle for early-risers to keep quiet enough so as not to disturb those who like a lie-in!

Lovely place to stay

We really enjoyed our week in Kington, the accomodation was very comfortable and conveniently situated to the local town and to the several walks in the area.

We spent a most enjoyable week at tha Old School Room.

An interesting and characterful accommodation with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. A very efficient central heating system kept us snugly warm when the weather turned cold. Well located for easy access to so many other attractive places in the Welsh Borders. A walker or wanderer's paradise. Peaceful yet just two minutes walk to Kington High Street.

Perfect holiday!

The location was great with many things to see and do around. The cottage was very spacious, clean and as described. The hostesses were very friendly and helpful too, the cooker wasn’t working but they supplied us with 2 alternatives which was great. We were not very happy with the shower

A brilliant little room to spend the weekend in.

It's themed brilliantly with great little games dotted about the house. Perfect for a small family to enjoy. The bed was soft and comfortable as well as a lovely modern kitchen.

It was light & roomy and situated in a picturesque part of the country with plenty of walking opportunities and places to visit. We even enjoyed staying indoors when the weather was wet! We woul love to revisit.

Well done guys, great service. The School Room at Kington is delightful. Very well equipped and cleverly designed, beautifully decorated, we loved it. Photos do not do it justice. The owner left us prosecco and delicious biscuits as a welcome and was very kind and easy to deal with. The room was also spotlessly clean which was great. Kington itself is a fun little town to stay in and the area is beautiful with lots of interesting and attractive places to explore. If you like to walk, cycle, enjoy the countryside, history, art and coffee with delicious cakes this is a great place to be!

We loved staying at The School Room.

Although only one room, it felt a lot bigger and each zone was comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything required for cooking. The owners have thought carefully, and met all needs of their guests. The wells stocked bookcase, tourist information, cable TV, games and excellent WiFi all contributed to making our stay a memorable one.Thank you, Sarah and Roger.

The property is in a very quiet yet convenient part of town.

Parking is close by ,and shops just a few minutes walk away. We very much enjoyed our time there.

What a little gem of a place.

Absolutely lovely. Kington was a delightful village, fantastic butchers, there is a great Public House/Reastaurant only a few steps from The School House where the food was very good. The owners of the School House were delightful, very helpful and informative. We had booked because we were attending a wedding in Shobden, but will definitely return for a long break to see more the the countryside and lovely little villages.

The Schoolroom was a sheer delight, for two; we spent Christmas at this lovely historic border town in England but only a stone's throw from Wales with brecon beacons, ludlow, black and white villages and gorgeous elan valley very near.

The historic house was great with views on clear days to bradnor hill, Well equipped (except freezer) with good tv with sky and wide range of books. Owners very friendly and even put up christmas tree and fairy lights, Well stocked coop and excellent nisa short walk down one of the many hilly footways, away from traffic, in this stone built village. We are entranced by the marches this is our sixtieth week spent here in the last 45 years. Mr Lewis the butcher sells super pies We discovered a Victorian local woman (Ella Leather of Weobley) had collected wax cyclinder recordings in the 1900s of herefordshire folk tunes and carols for Cecil Sharp's English Folk Song Society, two of which RVW transcribed as part of his fantastia on christmas carols in 1912. We listened while there on the pc - magical.

Excellent, nice quiet place just right for what I needed for my stay away from home.

This self-contained room is well kept and in a good location. The kitchen facilities were as good as you need if you wanted to cook and the inclusion of a washing machine and full electric oven could be a bonus if you needed it. I would stay there again if I was ever in the area in the future.

The school house was lovely.

It was cosy and warm with everything you might need for a holiday stay. There's a lovely delicatessen down the road to get fresh bread in the mornings. It's very quiet and a perfect based for walking holidays or exploring the area by car. The bed was very comfortable. The two sofas are sofa beds and my daughter slept very well on it.

The School Room is at a great location - just a short walk from downtown Kington and local walking paths.

The room is spacious, but feels cosy. I have plenty of space to open my suitcase and spread out I very much appreciate the comfortable bed, and the extra blankets available. I am also able to turn the heat on as needed, and the shower has plenty of hot water. (Uncomfortable beds, and lack of heat and hot water have been issues at other places I have stayed). The beautiful house is stone, so it stays cool in the summer heat. The room is also very quiet, so no worries about being woken up in the middle of the night by loud neighbors. Sarah and Roger are lovely people; they are very friendly and make sure you're comfortable. Parking spaces are available just seconds away by foot in The Square. The kitchen includes a stove, oven, microwave, and refrigerator, plenty of supplies to cook if you want to. I'm lazy and don't cook when I visit, and there's plenty of local options for meals, including yummy take-out fish and chips, or chinese food to eat in the flat. Kington itself is lovely, with two butchers shops, several local restaurants and pubs, and The Border Bean coffee shop which has excellent sandwhiches and soups, and delicious homemade deserts. My visits to Kington are to take care of my Mum, who is in a wheelchair. The Kington community is always kind and helpful as I wheel her around the shops. I recommend the School Room to anyone staying in Kington, and recommend Kington to anyone interested in staying in the area.

Lovely view of Bradnor hill. Very friendly and helpful owners. Great wifi connection. Very peaceful location despite being only minutes walk into town. Countryside is beautiful and this place is a great location for walking from doorstep, so many joining paths as well as offas dyke giving great circular walks.

The owners was friendly and helpful. The place was clean, warm and comfortable, with lots of small touches to make my stay perfect, including teabags and wash powder. The bed was comfortable, the heating effective, the room quiet and parking nearby. Overall, an excellent retreat for a single person or a couple. Highly recommended.
