Maritime Mews, 6 The Oakleys

An ideal location, lots of local information and books, we have stayed twice, the heating works well and during a heat wave the cottage keeps cool.

We had an amazing stay at Maritime Mews, the apartment was beautifully furnished, and perfectly clean and well maintained.

Everything you needed was there ! We cooked in a couple of evenings and I was delighted to find the kitchen was exceptionally equipped. Fiona the owner emailed us to ensure our stay was comfortable which was a very nice touch. The apartment is well positioned to walk easily into Borth Y Gest where we found Seaview which became our favourite place to eat! The menu was great and the staff so welcoming. The walk from there to Black Rock Sands was beautiful. From the apartment the walk into town leads you to lots of coffee shops, & restaurants/takeaways and Tesco, Aldi & Lidl. Perfectly positioned for day trips out either on the steam train, or in the car. We will definitely stay again if we are in Porthmadog.

The apartment is well situated for all the amenities of Porthmadog and North wales ,and everything is provided.

My daughter and I, plus our little dog, had an excellent week at 6 The Oakleys over Easter.

The cottage is central to all the amenities of Porthmadog including the harbour, steam heritage station and shops. The cottage was superb, very clean, comfortable and secure, just round the corner is an excellent dog-friendly cafe and the total experience was excellent. In fact this was our second stay in the same cottage! A five star holiday in a five star accommodation.

Lovely clean, warm and spacious accommodation with good quality furnishings and fittings.

Good value. Only a few metres/yards from the harbourside, but you would have to go outside to see all the boats and the estuary as the accommodation is facing in a different direction. However that didn't deter us as there was also excellent proximity to some interesting shops on the High Street. We didn't realise that the Maritime Museum (next door) is closed through the Winter and doesn't open until Easter (and then only in the afternoons?) but there are plenty of other tourist attractions in the area. As elderly and disabled people we did miss the equipment and adaptations that we take for granted at home, so some activities were difficult, but to be fair the property isn't advertised as disability friendly or as having wheelchair access. The Owner, Fiona, is welcoming and thoughtful. We were impressed with the speed and efficiency with which she got the oven working again, and it was kind of her to provide an airfryer and a slow cooker as temporary alternatives, but we didn't need them after all.

Stayed at the property over Christmas and was very pleased to see that the apartment had been tastefully decorated with a tree and Christmas lights.

The apartment is deceptively spacious, in a very pleasant and convenient location and was very comfortable. Plenty of good eateries and watering holes within a very short walking distance. The parking constraints are described in the listing, but consider adding a note about the height restrictions We have a van which is too tall for the normal entrance, so had to use the other gate, being aware of the parking regulations at y Ganolfan.

Very spacious accommodation, bedrooms, living room, bathroom and the kitchen diner.

Everything we could need was present. Beds comfortable. Parking was a little limited (but that was stated in the info pack) because part was railed off, plus entering and leaving restricted if other cars were in the adjoining spaces of the next property.

We had a lovely stay in Maritime Mews.

The location is perfect being within easy reach of the harbour , shops and local attractions . The building is historic and the next door Maritime Museum provided us with an interesting couple hours researching the intriguing history of Porthmadog and the wider area . Local beaches are good and we would recommend Black Rock Sands where it was quite an experience parking on the beach . The cottage is clean , comfortable and well equipped. We would certainly recommend the cottage to anyone .

We have stayed in this property previously and our return did not disappoint Everything about Mayitime Mews ticks all the boxes ie location,cleanliness, amenities Everything provided to make it home from home There is nothing not to like, even the request to water the outside plants was welcoming Already planning a return

Maritime mews was close to all facilities, very central yet quiet also the designated parking was great, the rental was reasonably priced which was also a factor for us.

We have been staying at Maritine Mews for many years now.

We would not consider staying anywhere else. The owner is continually updating things every year. It is very convenient to the Festiniog & Welsh Highland Railway, the town of Porthmadog and the Maritine Museum.. If there are any problems during our stay the owner is available to sort them out. The property benefits from central heating supplied by mains gas giving instant heat when it's cold.

This was our second visit and could well become an annual event.

Maritime Mews is the best self catering property we have visited. Superb location for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday.

We have stayed at 3 different appartments at this site and I've got to say that Maritime mews is the best one we have stayed in we will definitely be back.

The apartment is outstanding

Great accommodation in a brilliant location close to the harbour and the High Street and several Tourist attractions.

Really enjoyed our stay and had unusually pleasant weather in March. I was able to get out on my bike and tackle some of the steep mountain roads (pretending I was in the Tour-de- France!) while my parents would be able to potter about around the harbour and along the High Street. The accommodation was spacious, warm, exceptionally clean, very comfortable, well presented and it had everything we needed. We can thoroughly recommend this accommodation, and Fiona (the Owner) could not have been more helpful, considerate and kind. We are definitely planning to return next year. Our only concern is that on the Sykes Cottages website there is no mention of the 3 steps (with a handrail) and then another 2 steps (without a handrail) that need to be negotiated on the footpath between the carpark and the entrance to the cottage. It is essential to have a key fob to the electronic gates, so that anyone wanting to bypass the steps can open and then walk through the gates and round to the front of the property, where there is one more step to negotiate between the Harbour side and the gravel area in front of the entrance to the cottage (shown on Photographs on the advert). Fiona was exceptionally helpful when we alerted her to my Dad's difficulties regarding the steps and we really appreciated her prompt action and her kindness. So it's 5 stars for Fiona and the accommodation, but only 3 stars for Sykes Cottages website as it is so hard to find any accommodation on their website that is truly wheelchair accessible, or that has a wetroom, or that has a handrail adjacent to the WC, or that at least has a shower cubicle rather than a shower over a bath. I knew that Dad would just about manage indoors in the cottage, from what we could see on the photos, although the steps near the carpark were a last-minute surprise. Unfortunately Mum's illness prevented her from coming with us this time, and her poor mobility and increasing reliance on using a wheelchair could have caused some difficulties. Apparently, with her Carers pampering her at home and with my cute little Westie for company she had a really enjoyable week without Husband and Daughter!!!

Our first time at the Mews but we’ve visited Porthmadog many times.

This is the best place we’ve stayed in. It’s a great central location, spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped. Highly recommended. We will definitely be booking again for our next visit to Porthmadog.

Maritime Mews is a lovely place to stay if you want to enjoy the the area around Porthmadog.

It is warm, clean and comfortable, equipped with everything you need for a holiday. During the stay we were contacted by the owner to check that we didn't need anything. She also very kindly left us a box of fudge. Maritime Mewa is a stones throw from the High Street and yet tucked away in a small gated community. Ideal!

Everything there you would need, even for a long stay. Mention must be made of Fiona, the owner, who very promptly went out of her way to come round to the apartment with a spare key after we temporarily lost the main set soon after arrival. Very nice complimentary cakes on arrival too. Faultless apartment and customer service. Highly recommended.

We have stayed at Maritine Mews for a number of years now.

It is always spotlessly clean and well maintained. Every time we stay, there has been improvements made. It is very well situated for the harbour, the Festiniog and Welsh Highland Railways and the town. The owner is always available if anything should go wrong. The nearby Ship Inn provides good meals. We would not think of staying anywhere else when visiting Porthmadog.

Excellent location and the accommodation was perfect for us.

we've stayed at Porthmadog a number of times over the years and have found Maritime Mews nicely positioned for all the facilities in the town .

The car parking is a very short walk away. The cottage was clean and tidy with everything a family would need for a short stay.

We travelled all the way from Chiang Mai Thailand and toured many places in England and Wales.

Myself and my little friend, had a very nice enjoyable stay at No6 Maritime Mews From 8-5-23 to 13-5-23, A Lovely place direct on the Harbour side, Lovely spacious apartment, With excellent facilities, and excellent location, we met the Host Lady Fiona, while we were out walking On the nearby beach one morning, we had a good chat, i told her i was very pleased, with my choice of the apartment and its location, for all amenities. Fiona left me some welcome cakes on the table for me to enjoy, will definitley like to stay there again in the future, and will recommend to all my friends, that they must go and stay when they can. so from my point of view its top notch, in every way. Highly recommended.Dave & Travis.

Don’t agree with there being two parking spaces, unless it was two Smartcars!

The property was exactly as described it was quiet, spacious, clean and very well equipped.

It was in an ideal location for both Porthmadog and surrounding areas and attractions If I could make one negative comment it would be the quality of the mattresses in the single bed room both would benefit to being replaced as not very comfortable but this did not spoil our stay

Property was as the previous 5 years, visitors thought it spacious and good.

(They also rent out properties.) comfortable and everything thought of. However, we are not going to Owner is always available on phone if.needed and so pleasant. Due to our health it is awkward to unload the car, yes there is a a key available for temporary access to be right outside the door, then has to be returned, understandably. We aren’t going away again cos of health.

I have a walking disability and use a 4 wheeled walker which was no problem anywhere in the accommodation.Fiona has provided everything one could hope for to make Maritime Mews a real home from home.The “ welcome” cakes were delicious and very much appreciated,thank you.I will have no hesitation in recommending this property to family and friends

With the size of the bathroom would have liked a separate shower rather than in the bath.

I have stayed in several properties in Oakley Mews and this was the most spacious.

Everything was perfect, the bed was huge and very comfortable. The owner checked on us several times as we were there during Strom Eunice. It's situated a stone's throw from the main Street but tucked away in a private gated area near the harbour. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again, in fact I tried to book it last night but it wasn't available for dates I needed.

A lovely comfortable cottage in a gated residential area the cottage provided every thing that's needed for a self catering holiday .

We had a lovely week on Porthmadog.

Our accommodation was superb. Clean, comfortable and warm. Had everything we needed to enjoy our holiday. Even the weather was good. So much to see in the area. Will definitely go back.

I read reviews prior to booking 6 The Oakleys- as I do when I make any booking.

I booked this cottage due to the owner accepting dogs. The cottage has excellent positioning within the town of Porthmadog, even Tescos are the far end of town is within walking distance should you wish. If you like to support local business the pub The Australia is a very quick minute or two away and serves locally made brews by The Purple Moose, chocolate moose stout is stunning. The cottage was well equipped and the heating system was superb - wonderful when coming back following a cold and bracing hike or walk along the local Black Rock Sands beach. Gas hob and electric fan oven, the cottage has a good supply of cooking implements. There is a fridge freezer and the washing machine was an added bonus. Did I mention quiet? this place was so quiet- absolutely perfect. There is car parking for cottages inside the electric gated complex- however, for number 6 the parking is actually outside the gates meaning you would need to drive in, unload and then park outside- definitely not a deal breaker. Would I recommend? absolutely, Would I return? already planning my next trip.

I was very impressed with this place it was clean comfortable and so near town and all the facilities we hace already booked to go back in April I would recommend this cottage to anybody.

Some fittings and furniture starting to show their age.

Had a problem with the gas boiler which was quickly remedied by a plumber and personally supervised by the owner Fiona, excellent service.

Great position,right on the harbour,afew minutes walk to shops,harbour side or steam trains,couldn’t get a better position and very close to coastal path for further afield.

Had a really enjoyable stay here.

Accommodation was nicely decorated, spacious and generally clean (some dust behind the dressing table). Good quality towels and bedding. The Welsh cakes in the welcome pack were delicious! Excellent location, very quiet but minutes away from Porthmadog high street with shops, pubs and restaurants and Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland railway station close by. Had originally planned to bring our dog, however after booking we discovered pets are not allowed to be left unattended at the property at any time. With an older dog, this didn't really work for us as don't think she would have wanted to be out all the time (especially in the hot weather) so decided against bringing her. Some local attractions dont permit dogs eg Snowdonia mountain railway and Port Merion.

Disappointed that our car had to be left outside the compound and also with our age/disability the seating was too low for us e.g. settee. otherwise very nice place and owner very friendly

Very friendly welcoming lady who was finishing cleaning made us most welcome.

The apartment was lovely and really comfortable and Mum and I enjoyed staying and would happily go back without the dog.

However, whilst the apartment allows dogs there was no secure outside space for early morning and night time 'tinkles'. The photograph of the gated area is slightly misleading (hence the accuracy of listing score) as it appears that the patio area is gated and you could let your dog out without a lead on for a late night tinkle, so I wouldn't consider the property really dog friendly as getting dressed at 2 in the morning to take the dog out for a walk in the pouring rain wasn't very restful!! Mum (had her 81st birthday here) particularly loved that everything was on one level and she loved the spacious bathroom and the comfy beds and the good lighting so she could do her knitting! The apartment itself is situated right on the harbor and very close to the train station and I found three walks for my dog Jimbo locally. Porthmadog itself is very centrally situated for all the day trips out and we managed not to get lost once! Shame about the weather but Snowdonia looked magnificent iced with snow. We found the locals to be friendly and everyone in the shops that were open were chatty but not pushy. A very enjoyable week in Porthmadog.

Finding the cottage from the parking space in a hailstorm was a bit trying and we never were sure that the short cut past apartment 1 was the proper route.

We had a couple of problems making electrical items work. We needed help to find the oven worked only when the timer was switched ont and we did not guess that the DVD player red light went off when the player was switched on nor could we guess which TV source linked to the DVD player! We have always found it helpful when an owner has left a brief summery of how things work! However, when the WiFi stopped the owners son was able to re-start it. Thanks.

The holiday was more than expected and met all needs.

Close to the town centre with shops and cafes and pubs close by, The bus station was near by and the train station a short walk, Close to harbour and restraurants .

The accommodation was spotless and very spacious, had all facilities you would need and a great location next to harbour, Ffestiniog railway station, the main street, and next door to the maritime museum.

An ideal spot for exploring the surrounding area. we were in apartment No 6 and the parking bay could be very awkward for getting in and out if the other bays had been occupied also the bay for No 6 could only accommodate one car as there is a grid were a second car should be able to park.

Very convenient location to explore Snowdonia and North Wales and great place to stay - relaxing, outside of the busy streets, well equipped and good sized.

Air is really clean around and you have that feeling that Ocean is close as you may hear seagulls and see yachts nearby... It was just as good to return here as travel whole day out - all the family enjoyed staying there a lot. Thanks for the welcoming message and a chocolate, that was cute!

Can you ask the owner to check property for an iPad charger and USB plug that was left behind?

Immediate access to the property could easily be made safer and more straightforward for the elderly than it currently is. Fantastic position, very spacious and well furnished/decorated.

The apartment was lovely, well kept, clean and tidy.

The welcome message and small gift from the owners on arrival was a lovely surprise, it made us feel very welcome. The location of the property was ideal with a small family and allowed us the make the most of the surrounding area.
