“Had a lovely 5 nights in Downton and, for the price, this is a well-appointed option.”

The garden is properly enclosed (ideal for dogs) with some beautiful plants / trees, an artificial lawn, gravel areas and metal table / chairs; the bed is comfortable with clean linen and towels; bathroom is relatively compact but has everything you need; the kitchen would benefit from a few more knives for cooking but has ample crockery / pans / utensils otherwise; and the lounge is perfectly comfortable with an easy-clean sofa and Freeview TV. The lack of WiFi in the property should be considered before booking as you will need to ensure you have sufficient mobile data to be online and (as my wife found out) it is best to download books onto a Kindle before your trip… The village is lovely and, although the main road is quite busy throughout the day, there is no traffic noise at the property. Local pubs The Wooden Spoon and The Goat are both great but we personally found The Bull Hotel less attractive. The local cafe is also excellent. The Co-op has all essentials but larger shops are available in Salisbury which is only a 6 mile drive. There are great walks around the area (we would recommend visiting The Moot and also the footpath upriver from Iron Bridge for dog walks) and fishing the river can be accessed via Green Lane (I managed to net a 4.5lb chub) with appropriate EA and Salisbury AC licences (both available online). Overall, we had a great time in Wiltshire and would happily recommend Pop’s Barn to all potential customers.
