“Kitts Cottage is small and quaint.”

Smaller than it appears in the pictures. However, it is very sweet and well catered for, in terms of functionality. Space is reasonably tight due to the size of the cottage and storage for clothes is limited, with two people staying. The outside space is great for alfresco dining. Like the cottage, the garden is petite. The parking on the property works well if you have a small car and one which is not low to the ground. Or has a skirt under the bumper. Smaller than it appears in the pictures. However, it is very sweet and well catered for, in terms of functionality. Space is reasonably tight due to the size of the cottage and storage for clothes is limited, with two people staying. The outside space is great for alfresco dining. Like the cottage, the garden is petite. The parking on the property works well if you have a small car and one which is not low to the ground. Or has a skirt under the bumper. As due to the slope at the entrance of the drive, low cars will scrape the concrete. The driveway is a tight fit, but doable. The only real downside for this property, is the broadband and internet connection. It is pants. The router continually and frustratingly stopped connecting to broadband or the internet on a daily/hourly basis. A real bugbear if one wants or needs the internet for social media, emails, work or entertainment. Which nowadays for many is a must, wherever we travel. All in all, the cottage is located in a great location near the hills and a short distance from the town of Malvern. Walking up the hill from the cottage, just off the main road, there is a path. This leads to the hills and is only a twenty minute hike. The hills and surrounding countryside is stunning. Therefore, the cottage was a great base to stay and explore what the beauty of Malvern had to offer.

Thank you for your feedback. To address the issue of broadband, a new router is being fitted today and the property is being upgraded to full fibre at the end of July 2026. It is possible to park a larger vehicle on the drive, guests have parked a VW camper on the driveway recently and my own 4 x 4 fits. Lower cars can be an issue, but this is one of the only properties in the area with off road parking so it is a bonus. Property Owner

“I had to cancel so didn’t go I contacted you but obviously it’s not on your records.”

I asked as it was exceptional circumstances as my mum with dementia was going to respite but they cancel three days before so we could go I asked for a refund but also contacted you asking if we could change dates as it was a lot of money to lose. As it wasn’t our fault and had no reply I would appreciate your comments we were very disappointed as it looked like a lovely property and we had paid the extra cancellation policy

Very close to great walks on the neighbouring hills and a short walk to the local nature reserve. The cottage was warm and lit when I arrived after dark, which was a nice welcome and much appreciated. This was my fourth visit and I look forward to returning later in the year.

“Sweetest little cottage in a peaceful location.”

It was lovely to be greeted with music and lights, and the Christmas gift basket was very unexpected. We have a few tiny complaints: it was clean, but dusty old cobwebs adorned most of the lights; the sofa was not comfortable, and the shape made it difficult for two people to sit and eat on; some of the electrical sockets were loose, which made plugging things in and, more alarmingly, unplugging them a little scary. Having said that we had a wonderful time, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Kitts Cottage.

“Although prepared for a small property, we found Kitts cottage is indeed very small.”

Not for the more ample among us. And the towels provided need to be bigger. I'm of average size and the biggest towel barely went around me. As stated in previous reviews, a spare cupboard to store food is needed. There are indeed shelves, however, they are full with cake tins, cups, books etc. We ended up storing our dry goods on the breakfast bar and eating from trays on our laps. The coffee machine didn't work. The Internet was sporadic at best which didn't overly bother us but would be difficult for some people. The 'secure' garden needs checking as to the left of the cottage is a flimsy piece of wire mesh held in place by bits of wood. Given this is direct into the neighbours garden who have rabbits in an open pen it is a disaster waiting to happen with any determined dog.

Hi Sam, thanks for your feedback. The space has been carefully maximised in the cottage to provide guests with the largest bed available for the space as guests, in general prefer a larger bed. There is a lot of shelving in the kitchen to store food. A bathroom shelf would simply not be practical in the space available. There is storage for towels in the top of the wardrobe. I would have hoped you may have mentioned what I feel would have been positive points- your entire freezer contents were replaced for you, free of charge, late on a Sunday night when you found them spoiled. The sentimental property you accidentally left behind was posted back to you at no cost. A bowl, part of a matching set was broken which you were not charged for. I take your points on board. “The cottage itself was in a nice situation and roomy for the two of us.”

In a good place for the showground and the hills which was why we chose it. We liked the bed it was comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped although some storage space for food we brought for the week would have been nice. The main areas we liked less was the damp - we had to keep the windows open all the time to try to reduce it, coats hang in the porch were wet after rain (you need to hang them on the other hooks provided) and items we put in the bedroom became damp and medication tablets we took we ended up having to throw away as they also got damp. We recognise that the building is an older property however we were surprised at the lack of ventilation without opening windows (trickle vents would help). One of us is smaller so a step to get into the bath for the shower would have been helpful - we saw it was a roll top in the photos but didn’t realise how tall it was. So overall it was ok but not without some issues.

“We had a fantastic late Christmas / New Year holiday in Kitts Cottage - still with its Christmas decorations up, which were delightful.”

It is an absolutely charming cottage, in a quiet village location - the only sounds were the birds. Picture perfect from the outside and inside, it was cosy, with modern, high quality furnishings. The log burner, with the snow outside, was an absolute treat. A wonderful cottage to relax and recharge in. The dog friendly garden, walks around the village and a vast array of walks in the surrounding area, rounded off our stay. So much so, we are already booked to go back.

“At first glance, this is a cute flat in a stunning location and you can walk from the property up the hill to get incredible views of the surrounding area.”

We managed to park our mini on the drive but it would be tricky for larger vehicles; more of an issue was the lack of outside lighting of any kind. We had hot water and found the bed comfortable but the aspect that marred the stay was the wetness and condensation in the property, such that we had the windows open constantly, despite the freezing temperatures. The extraction in the bathroom wasn't effective though it was the bedroom and area near the front door where it affected our comfort most: on picking up our coats to go out, we found them to be wet from the walls near the door and you could feel a little chill in the living room, near to the front door (perhaps a heavy curtain or divide there might help). It is an old property that needs better insulation or perhaps used in the drier and warmer months only. The property is small but could be cosy for a couple and I utilised the small table and chair (in the boot room) for work purposes. Wifi worked well for my purposes but there wasn't a good mobile signal to be had by either of us so perhaps an email address for communication would be good. Aside from the lack of lighting outside, non-slip mats and rugs would also prevent accidents. Might I also suggest having blankets for the bed, larger towels and spare supplies, such as light bulbs, toilet roll, etc. in the boot room. There wasn't any kindling or matches for the log burner. Grateful for the pint of milk and appreciate the gesture of the muffins though, sadly, I can't eat such things! There is a very small Morrisons on the main road (easily walkable) but guests would need to bring their cooking ingredients or purchase in the bigger stores in Malvern. While I'm not sure I can recommend for a winter stay, I imagine the experience would be more comfortable in the summer months. Best wishes.

Thank you for your feedback. I feel I must make one or two points to assist those who may be looking to book. The parking is clearly described and outlined in the listing. It is, in fact possible to fit a transit camper on the driveway. I personally park a large 4WD vehicle here regularly. Malvern is a hilly area with a lot of small roads and difgicult parking, so unfortunately, when staying here parking is often slightly tricky. As far as condensation is concerned- this is a small building and therefore needs to be ventilated at times by opening a window, or leaving them on vent. The bathroom extractor will only do so much, it is good practice always, in any property to ventilate a small bathroom after bathing or showering. Mobile signal - all guests have a contact email for me. Alternatively, any mobile phone can be set to receive and make wi-fi calls, therefore the need for a signal is not necessary. When a new light bulb was required during your stay, I delivered one to the property at a time to work around your working hours. There is a chest of drawers in the boot room stocked with various consumables. I do supply 2 toilet rolls per stay and would generally expect guests to provide their own after this. There was a new box of matches and kindling in the log store if required. The bath towels are bath sheets, therefore they really couldn’t be any larger! There are blankets for the bed in the top of the wardrobe. I’m sorry you were unable to enjoy the muffins left for you. These items are supplied as a gesture to guests from my own pocket. It would be impossible to cater for everyone’s dietary needs. Many, many guests have enjoyed a cosy Winter stay here. I’m sorry you found so many negative aspects. Thank you. Property Owner

“First off, the parking.”

Yes, there is off road parking, but BOY is it tight. A few handy hints on how to approach the parking would have been helpful. Especially for those who may be arriving in the dark. Other grumbles would include the toilet brush had “debris” in it. There was a smell in the bedroom next to one of the bedside tables. The base of the bedside lamp was wet. There was also a damp patch on the carpet underneath the bedside table along with a cupcake cup. The TV remote was damaged and possibly needed new batteries. When we opened the complimentary dog biscuits a fly came out of the jar. Needless to say, the biscuits went in the bin. The wood burner looked very tempting, but there were no matches or kindling left to start it up. To the good. When you book Kitts Cottage you are in the Malvern Hils and it is beautiful and right at the heart of all you would want access to on a trip to The Malvern Hills. The cottage is ideal for one or two people to stay. There’s a very well equipped galley kitchen with breakfast bar. Great for a quick breakfast. Not so good for an evening meal. This may be a deal breaker for some. We didn’t mind so much. Bathroom was small, well laid out and the water pressure on the shower was very good. Lounge has a very comfy sofa, wood burner and TV. Ideal for relaxing in after a long day walking. There is enough storage, if a bit scattered about. The boot room would be very useful if a visit co-insides with a wet and muddy visit. A good place to clean dogs up and change to dry shoes before entering the cottage. We greatly enjoyed our stay despite the few shadows lurking in the corners.

The cottage was lovely and very well equipped with high quality goods, and we would definitely return. The only negative was we just found the sofa a little low for us and a bit uncomfortable for a long period. A couple of armchairs would give it 100% but that's just our personal preference. An outside light would also be of benefit during winter months. We were very happy with our stay.

“This is a lovely little cottage; very well equipped indeed but it is tiny.”

The bedroom especially is filled with the bed with just a little wriggle room each side and nowhere to put your discarded clothes. The kitchen is a good size and the sofa in the lounge is fine for two. We appreciated the milk in the fridge on arrival and the cakes!! I feel your website could be more specific about the access and parking. It is on a junction of two narrow residential streets and the angled drive is awkward. Resident parking means you have to use the driveway but anything bigger than our Rav 4 just wouldn't fit or cope with the angle of approach. Once parked in the driveway the outside space becomes very limited indeed. We enjoyed our stay in Kitts Cottage and hate to criticise but the whole point of a review is to help any potential future guests make an informed choice. There are very good walks from the door if you like hills but then you wouldn't be in Malvern if you didn't like hills. We walked down to St Wulstans nature reserve which was lovely for the dogs.

Thank you for your feedback. Just to address your comment regarding the size of the bed. The bed is a king size and also a zip and link so it can be converted into two singles if required. A king size is far more comfortable for most guests than a standard double. Admittedly, this gives less room either side, but I feel most guests would appreciate the larger bed. There are hooks on the back of the door for discarded clothes. To address your comments regarding the drive. It is possible to fit larger vehicles on the drive, I park here on changeover days and have a large 4x4. Guests are able to park in the road if they wish, parking is not resident parking only. Welcome pack appreciated, Comfortable bed, always a bonus. Off street parking which is a smidge tricky but managed in our large car. Parked on the street in the daytime and off road in the evening mindful of the neighbours. On a quiet lane in Little Malvern, Nature Reserve a short distance away was an absolute bonus for either a quiet walk or exercising the dogs. Garden was great for eating outdoors or watching the comings and goings. Saw ? Kites/ Buzzards flying above our heads. Also Paraglider's enjoying the thermals. Malvern Hill Hotel a mile away was friendly and great food. Eat in or plenty outdoor seating. Also dog friendly.

It is very comfortable, with a small but peaceful garden, exceptionally clean and thoughtfully presented with many personal touches. Parking is manageable with a little care in a quiet area. It is an excellent base for exploring the area with interesting places both nearby ( including a nature reserve within walking distance ,and towns such as Ledbury, Upton on Severn) and further away such as the Cotswolds and the Welsh borders - Hergest Croft gardens are a must if you like tranquility ! “We found the cottage as described.”

Lovely fixtures and fittings. Parking tricky but as described and we can drive !!!!! Lovely basket of food, nice to have milk, last cottage we stayed in had none and we had to drive 9 miles to get some. We are lucky that we are both no more than 10.5 stone, I think large guests would struggle as only about a foot around the bed. Sweet garden too.

To address your issue with the space in the bedroom - I wanted to maximise the size of the bed for the room so had a king size made at a slightly shorter length, rather than just installing a standard double. It is also a zip and link bed so I can offer the option of splitting into two single beds. Obviously, this gives slightly less space at the sides of the bed but hopefully the extra bed size makes up for this. Property Owner

“Lovely little cottage in a great location, really thoughtfully decorated and kitted out to maximise the space and offer everything you need.”

It was spotlessly clean, the bed was comfortable and the blinds kept out the early morning light. The kitchen is really well equipped but if you don’t fancy cooking, there are lots of places to eat within a short drive and also that will deliver. Such a lovely area, we were there with our dog and spent our days out walking, absolutely spoilt for choice with places to walk, lots of hills but plenty flatter areas too including a really nice nature reserve which is walkable from the cottage. It’s a very dog friendly area, definitely worth a visit and we’d highly recommend Kitts Cottage.

“Beautiful little cottage, enjoyed reading about the history of it.”

It was spotless and everything you needed was catered for. ( even dog bowls ) A very thoughtful welcome pack was a lovely touch, and dog treats . The only little niggle was how low lounge seating was , but thats us being in the oldies bracket, couple of armchairs would suit better. The " to die for bath " helped ease the old back. Beautiful area, lots to do, see and stunning walks.

It had everything we needed for our four day break. The welcome basket was very well received, everything in it was perfect for us. Secure garden for the dogs and dog bowls and treats provided. A fresh bowl of water was already down waiting for the dogs when we arrived, great after a long drive. Lovely deep bath, great for relaxing after a long day walking. “Lovely, quirky, quiet and clean property.”

It was smaller than we thought it would be but it had everything we needed. Location was really good. We enjoyed being able to walk to the local pub, The Railway, which was 1.5 miles away and served good beer and decent food. The welcome pack was lovely and consisted of bread, butter, crisps, biscuits, milk, cake and Tunnocks tea cakes (a blast from the past but delicious). There were treats for the dog as well. Overall, a great property and beautiful setting with lots of walks nearby and views across the county.

The owner is on hand with help and advice if needed and she has made it a really comfortable holiday destination. It is set in a picturesque area, with Malvern Hills right on the doorstep. Out two little dogs were made as welcome as we were, with doggy treats and bowls left for our use. There was a lovely welcome basket which was greatly appreciated after our long journey. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Kitts cottage and if we are ever in that part of the world again we will definitely stay again.

Tastefully modernised and decorated; extremely well equipped and very clean. The welcome basket was a very nice touch and treats left for our two dogs also. The location is great for gaining immediate access up onto the Malvern Hills and plenty of walks for the dogs too. The enclosed garden meant we could let the dogs relax in the garden without any worries of them getting out. Equally the little patio area with the table and chairs meant we had most of our meals ‘al-fresco’. Rachele was extremely helpful and very pro-active – even messaging us on the day of our arrival to let us know we could gain access early. We would thoroughly recommend Kitts Cottage and we will be going back again in the near future.

Rachele had left us a lovely welcome basket which included a present for the dogs. In the cottage there’s loads of useful information on things to do and places to eat, which was really helpful. I can’t wait to come back in the winter so we can try out the log burner! This really is a gem of a place and well worth a stay

“Kits cottage certainly does not have off road parking.”

The camber of the drive from directly off the road is very high. We did attempt to park the car off road! If we had carried through with the parking we would have had multiple paint and bodywork to be done. The drive needs to be lowered in line more with the road. Also you cannot open the left hand gate (from the road) far enough as it hits the road. We had to park in the narrow road directly outside the property only just being able to exit the car. If I had known there was not any off road parking I would not have booked Kitts Cottage. We had a neighbour visit us on our first tea time there and asked us to move our car further towards the T-junction as there is also a salt bin on the opposite side of the road and it makes it very difficult for the local residents to get passed. Apparently she has to this every Friday when new occupants arrive. She did say it was annoying. We felt perhaps not wanted, and to be perfectly honest I cannot blame them. Also there is not really anywhere you can eat a supper...not wanting to sit at a very small breakfast bar. I know there is a very small table and 2 chairs in the boot room. We were lucky we ate outside, although I must say on very uncomfortable chairs. There was also 4 chipped plates in the kitchen...not nice. The dishwasher could do with a good clean on the sides. The TV aerial was not working on our first night, although the owners did come out on Saturday afternoon. There will be further problems with the aerial has has only wiggled it around somewhat! I realised when booking the cottage it was small but it is very small. To sum up, I would never book anywhere without off road parking, it’s important to us to know our car is safe. Also I felt uncomfortable knowing what the neighbours think of all the different people in and out of the area. I don’t think this cottage is up to your normal high quality of service. I hope you will send a representative to the cottage to look at the high camber of the drive. Malvern is a very beautiful town, we loved it.

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments following your stay at Kitts Cottage. I'm sorry to hear that you were unable to take advantage of the off road parking. The space available can be difficult to access due to the steepness and width of the road. However, guests are welcome to park on the road in front if they don't feel confident to park there. It is worth noting that there is no dining table in the property but there is a breakfast bar in the kitchen, in addition to which the owner does supply a small table (kept in the boot room) that guests are welcome to bring into the living area. “We spent a week at Kitts Cottage which was located in a lovely position in Malvern.”

The cottage was fully equiped , very clean and a pleasure to return to after a full day out exploring the surrounding area. The owner left a very nice Welcome Pack for us , and one for the dog also , which we found a great help after a long car journey from our home in Northumberland. All in all a little gem of a cottage which we would be happy to recommend to friends and family. I would also add that the whole experience of booking our holiday with Sykes was made very easy with great communication from both Sykes and the owner of Kitts Cottage.

“Kitts Cottage is a really cosy comfy cottage, spotlessly clean with everything needed to hand.”

The small garden was ideal for sitting outside in the sun and our Jack Russell, Rosie, loved it. Rachele left us a lovely basket of goodies which was really appreciated. She even contacted us to say we could arrive as early as we wanted as the previous couple left on the Thursday. Can thoroughly recommend visiting Tewksbury and the National Trust property Croomb Park. The only thing we had a problem is with the parking at the cottage. We couldn’t park on the drive as one of the gates only opened half way so we had to park on the road which, as the cottage is on a steepish hill and being right next to a T junction, meant we had to park right next to the wall which was Three feet from the T junction

“Kitts Cottage is a beautiful property that has been lovingly restored by the owner.”

The design and decor is exactly what we would have chosen and we considered asking if we could buy the cottage so we'd never have to leave. The bed was incredibly comfortable so you can't help but have a good night's sleep. The kitchen makes the best use of space and is well equipped, the bathroom is stunning with a lovely deep bath, and the living room has everything you need for relaxing in the evening. The log burner makes it cosy and warm. There were fresh flowers in the living room, a lovely welcome basket for us and some treats for the dog. The garden is enclosed (perfect for the dog) and you can eat out there when it's sunny. Perfect. This is one of the nicest cottages we have stayed in and we'll definitely be returning for another break later in the year. 10/10.

“A revisit to this wonderful cottage for us as my wife used to live in it.”

It’s a very special place and has been beautifully and sympathetically refurbished. It’s the perfect base to climb up to the MalvernHills and a short walk to the Malvern Hills hotel which is good for a meal and a drink. A perfect place to stay for a couple and a pet dog. The welcome pack was also thoughtful and very generous.

“The care to attention demonstrated by the owner was wonderful- small things like a welcome basket and small instructions carefully placed.”

She also gave her number should we need anything which was very considerate. I would most definitely go back and would recommend the location. The only comment, which is not really anything to do with the house or owner, is that it had neighbours and a school close by. A more isolated location would have been nice. But this is a personal preference and not something that reflects on the care to attention given. I had the dog with me, he loved it. There isn’t a back garden though and so he had to be supervised whenever he was out front to stretch his legs. The garden was not very big and so probably not ideal for a larger dog as we have, but regardless, for a couple or one person as I was, it was nice. I did have the plumber pop round to read the boiler, I didn’t expect this or particularly appreciate it during a holiday- I would suggest this is done when guests are not in resident next time. All in all 5* for care to attention and consideration from the owner. 4* for the position and amenities of the cottage itself. Thank you Rachele for a lovely stay :)

It was very well equipped - better than any other cottage we've stayed in. The welcome basket left for our arrival was a nice touch. We noticed that most other guests had brought their dog with them from the visitor book. Unfortunately we think that people must have allowed their dogs on the settee and cushions as there was a bit of a doggy smell- not the cottage owner's fault but irresponsible pet owners. However, this was the only minus and overall we had a great holiday experience.

MALVERN

Ledbury 7 miles; Worcester 10 miles; Hereford 23 miles.

The beautiful Worcestershire town of Malvern dates back to the Bronze Age and is situated on the eastern side of the dramatic Malvern Hills. An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Malvern Hills form a 9-mile range of ancient rock, which offers 100 miles of footpaths and bridleways with natural springs and long distance views in all directions. The town holds antiques fairs, WI country markets, farmers’ markets and many auctions throughout the year, as well as the Great Malvern Food Festival in June. Malvern has individual shops, cafes, galleries, restaurants, a luxurious spa and it’s own micro brewery. It is also just a short drive from the Three Counties Showground which hosts regular events most notably RHS Malvern (May), The Royal Three Counties Show (June) and the Malvern Autumn Show (September). The town is the home of the Morgan car which makes this area popular with motoring enthusiasts. The Malvern Theatre welcomes productions from the West End and the Royal Shakespeare Company. The more energetic can try many outdoor activities including high ropes, climbing and abseiling. Fishing and river cruises are available nearby and there are National Trust properties, gardens and vineyards to visit in the area. The picturesque Forest of Dean with its range of attractions is only 30 miles away, and the cathedral city of Worcester offering modern amenities is a 20 minute drive away.
