River Cottage

We really enjoyed our stay with you!

The cottage is extremely well equipped with everything you could possibly need! It is situated in the perfect place, very quiet, close to the river and at the same time in the historical town center. The only small drawback is the fact that the roof is not very well insulated and the bedroom on the top floor gets unbearably hot in the summer heat. But everything else is just perfect!

Well equipped and furnished and so well situated for the Abbey and town center. Very helpfull and friendly owners. Cannot fault.

The location, facilities, cleanliness, etc.

were excellent, one of the best cottages we have visited. The car parking was not a problem, the car park was only a short walk through Victoria Garden, the entrance of which was just over the road. Good pubs, restaurants and ealks all nearby. Would certainly recommend.

A very nice cottage, well placed for visiting the abbey and riverside walks, as well as the town centre and shops.

Our only difficulty came before leaving when we were unable initially to contact the owner to supply needed info about parking. Trying to contact Sykes/Manor as an alternative was hopeless as they do not answer the phone.

Well positioned in the town. Good eateries around. A good base to visit other parts of the cotswolds.

River Cottage is a beautiful, quirky, old building situated in a very quiet location.

Thankfully, the abbey clock chimes are turned off at night! The small courtyard at the back of the property is a lovely area to sit and unwind with a nice cup of tea. The cottage is equipped with everything that you need and a lot of things that you did not know that you needed. It has raised the bar for all other properties which no doubt will pale in comparison. This was primarily a 'doggy' holiday, so the short walk through Victoria Gardens to the car park was an ideal start to the day, with an evening stroll around the Ham finishing the day perfectly. For anyone with dogs, the Vineyards is a 2 minute walk from the cottage and Worcester Woods Country Park is only 20 minutes drive away. A visit to the very peaceful and beautiful Soudley Ponds should not be missed and Bodenham Arboretum is also well worth the 50 minute drive. I highly recommend River Cottage and the surrounding area.

Loved our stay.

We felt so at home. There was so much attention to detail and thought put into the needs of day to day usage in the cottage. Incredibly high standard. I loved the way it was decorated. Bringing a toddler and a small dog anywhere is quite stressful, but this place was great. Having a little step to help him reach the sink, and a high chair available was really helpful. Loved the little touch of the fresh flower spray to know the cottage had been cleaned recently. Washing up liquid, plenty of towels, soap in the bathrooms, extra bits and pieces being available (blankets/tea/sugar), providing a pint of milk. Lots of little things that just let you relax at the place were really nice. On top of the basket of biscuits with suggestions on places to go etc. Really really lovely. Will be recommending to friends.

Yes a lovely place but very cold especially top floor room.

( obviously in February). Will not fault the cottage, I just wish we had stayed later in the year.

We can't get over how cosy and so well 'stocked' the Cottage was which has never been our experience with the 'competition' out there. What a treat. You are most trusting and we hope others who stay there are just as respectful as we tried to be. We'd love to know more about the Cottages architecture and its history. Tewkesbury is lovely Market Town,and River Cottage is situated a few minutes walk from the town centre,if you want a modern 21st century property this place is not for you,but if you like a period property,with charm then you will find River Cottage Ideal,in the second floor front bedroom you can hear the water rushing over weir on the Avon,and the quarter hour chimes of the Abbey,all very relaxing

Lovely cottage a few minutes walk from the hustle and bustle of central Tewkesbury, but also only minutes away from the river and lovely country walks.

Cottage was lovely and warm and very well equipped. Lovely little garden. Every thing you would need in the cottage and also on your doorstep, once we parked the car we did not need to us it.

An attractive and comfortable cottage, ideally situated in a very pleasant town.

Well worth a visit. Your first question "How likely are you to recommend us" doesn't make it plain if you mean Sykes or the cottage. If River Cottage it's a 10, but lower than 5 for Sykes The only problem with booking was with Sykes who were loath to admit their mistake and remedy their error.

A beautiful old cottage with gorgeous views of the mill, gardens and river.

Warm, comfortable and cosy, the cottage is only a minute’s walk from the Abbey, and easy walking distance to pubs, restaurants and the high street. The owners were very helpful both before and during our stay. Definitely recommended!

Great holiday, as last year at Runnymede, lovely accommodation , lovely people.

Would come back year after year, if we didn't have rest of the UK to see and experience. The music festival was great as usual, the only thing was we couldn't get to see any of the rock groups as they were all fully booked up.

Wonderful stay, a very considerate owner who provided a welcome pack of tea, coffee and milk; contacted us to let us know that we could check in early and advised us on how to deal with parking in central Tewkesbury!

The cottage was fantastic.

We fell in love with this gorgeous cottage.

It is perfectly proportioned, quaint in all the right ways, with everything you could possibly need. The bedrooms are on the first and second floor have super comfy beds and plenty of cupboard space. There is a shower cubicle and separate bath in the bathroom, with a view of the little back garden. The kitchen has everything needed to change cook full meals, with a lovely range style oven. In the utility space is a space-aged washer drier, which sings to you when the load is finished!! Plenty of seats in the little back garden to sit out and enjoy being on holiday. Just fabulous - probably the best holiday cottage I've stayed in. Thank you Nikki!

The cottage was perfect for us - full of character with a very central location. Would recommend it without hesitation.

This was the best cottage that I have ever stayed in.

It ticked all the boxes,lovely and clean and everything catered for. The location was outstanding, beautiful surroundings and everything on your doorstep, my cockerpoo 'Nell' loved it. Definitely be back,thank you for a lovely holiday.

What can I say about this cottage that has not been said before?

A beautifully clean and equipped cottage set in a great location. The weather was not that great during our stay but returning to this cosy cottage more than made up for that. The owners were always quick to answer any questions we had, thank you. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return soon to one of the best cottages we have visited.

Very comfortable and surprisingly peaceful for a town location. Highlights for us were Tewkesbury Abbey and trips out to Croome Court, Worcester Cathedral and the Malvern Hills.

Excellent old cottage by the river, Ham and Abbey, close to all amenities, easy free parking, helpful owners.

This small quaint typical english cottage was absolutly perfect for us.

The owners and the locals are very friendly and made us and our dog very welcome

River cottage was charming, the location was idyllic;near the river, park and Abbey, and the cottage had everything you need for a relaxing break.

The little back garden was great for morning coffee and the bench at the front was perfect for watching the world go by. The beds were very comfortable and the whole cottage was clean and tidy. For 2 elderly ladies staying in separate rooms the stairs were a little daunting, especially for me as I had a second flight to negotiate to my bedroom but this wouldn't bother most visitors I'm sure. The owners were extremely helpful and an unexpected bonus was the parking space booked for us on the nearby carpark. I would wholeheartedly recommended River Cottage as a great place to stay to explore the surrounding area

Wonderful place to stay, within walking distance of town centre and lovely riverside walk virtually on doorstep. You can even take your dog. Just perfect!

Have been staying at Tewkesbury Abbey caravan park for the past 15 years with my parents and my children. But sadly my mother passed away last December so we decided to book a cottage this year and was absolutely delighted with the accommodation

Whilst yes the property is charming and of an age,I think the spec could do with updating ie.

the sofas, dining table etc. All the necessary basics were in place. I would suggest a multi coat hook be placed on the wall inside the front door which would be handy for wet coats etc. I think the cost was exceptionally high for 3 days (more than it would have cost for a week virtually!) for what it offered but then it was my choice as I wanted to experience the TFM event! Lovely owner (John and daughter Nikki) and very friendly.

River Cottage is wonderful, everything is thought out, there was nothing more we could have wanted.

Nikki is fantastic host doesn't bother you but always responds to messages. A great holiday spot.

This is our second stay at the cottage, once again Nikki was the perfect host, the cottage was very clean and nice and warm for our arrival.

I would recommend this accommodation to anyone wanting a relaxing break, the cottage is perfectly located for exploring the area. No doubt I will return, 10/10 value for money

Fabulous with the cold weather to come back to a warm place. Beds were Fabulous and comfortable. The Bell hotel opposite was lovely......lovely food and staff. A very quiet area which I liked......as the town area can be noisy. Great kicking off area to many places. Yes we loved it.

Absolutely stunning cottage.

The view from the living room window is lovely and we saw some beautiful sunsets. There are good walks around the cottage and an easy walk to the shops. The owners obviously gave a lot of thought to the comfort of their guests. It had more and above what you would expect for a holiday rental especially the extra towels, extra pillows and blankets. The kitchen was very well equipped and we appreciated the supply of tea bags and coffee the owner had left for us, also the welcome basket of shortbread and chocolates. I have just two negative points: We found the key safe very difficult to open and it would have been helpful, especially as it gets dark early, to have a light above the front door. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would certainly recommend a stay at River Cottage.

Very comfortable property and in such a good position for so many walks which actually started from the property, no walking down the High Street to arrive at a starting point.

Park Walks, Riverside walks, Walks on the common amidst the sheep, and the Abbey just across the street - what is not to like? Such a pretty town and steeped in history. Loved it!! Juliet Gardiner.

We loved our stay here and would like to come back.

The cottage is next to the old mill and river in the heart of Tewkesbury. It has so much charm and character. Everything you need is here with lovely personal touches. Ground floor has kitchen & living room with access to the garden, although small, it was lovely to sit out here after a day being tourists. First floor has a double room and then bathroom with bath, loo and walk in shower. 2nd floor has the big bed which the host offers to split to two singles if needed. Lots of towels etc The host contacted beforehand to take my number plate and arranged parking throughout in the public car park accessed through the lovely communal garden - 3 minute walk. Loved it!

We absolutely loved our stay in River Cottage.

The building is beautiful and so cosy; the location is perfect for exploring the town and the facilities provided were great. Little details like providing fans in the room (it was the tail end of the heatwave when we arrived) were very much appreciated. Also, the ability to park in the local car park was great. More than anything, the communication from Nikki was excellent and she was on hand to answer any questions we had (and pre-empted many of the questions head of time with really helpful text messages and a call). Thank you so much for a really lovely few days

The cottage was great, the garden could have been maintained better, remember it is a cottage so it is slightly quirky.

We had a perfect stay at River Cottage in lovely Tewkesbury a few weeks ago!

The cottage itself is quaint and picturesque with modern amenities and very comfy beds! The host’s descriptions were accurate and helpful guidance. We would highly recommend this ideal spot!

We stayed at River Cottage in November and had such a lovely week.

The dog enjoyed all the walks on the ham and investigating all the alleyways along the high street (as we did) and all the walks along the river! Such a pretty little cottage where we saw some lovely sunsets across the river. Lots of interesting local history, and the merchants house was open when we went with actors dressed in 15th century clothing, baking and making items from that time. We were lucky on the day before we left that there was an early christmas market being held along the small high street and the main high street. There were quite a few dog friendly pubs within walking distance too, which is always a bonus and The Gupshill Manor pub along the walking trail was perfect. We would highly recommend this beautiful little cottage.We loved it.

Kitchen a little congested but to be expected in a cottage this size.

We stayed in River Cottage for 2 weeks over the holidays.

The cottage was decorated for Christmas which was a welcome surprise and it was much more spacious than we were expecting from the pictures. We were very comfortable as a family of four (3 humans, 1 dog); I think it would have been comfortable even with another human. The kitchen was fantastic for cooking Christmas dinner in and there were also some great takeaways nearby. The neighbours were all very lovely and Tewksbury was one of the friendliest places we've ever visited - especially if you have a dog, lots of people wanted to stop to say, "Hello" and even offer our pup a treat. And everyone invited him into their shops and restaurants. There were also a lot of great walks and trails along the Rivers Avon and Severn, though if you visit in winter, make sure to remember your wellies! We can't wait to visit again!!

River Cottage is a delightful place to stay and we would happily return.

It was clean, comfortable and cosy. It has all of the facilitates and space we needed for a family of 4, but you still get a real sense of being in, and surrounded by, historical buildings. The location couldn't be better. A few minutes walk into town and overlooking the river and the Ham, which is a lovely spot for walking. Birdsong and church bells in the morning. Tewkesbury is an interesting town and was very pretty at Christmas. The owner was kind and helpful.

River Cottage, in Tewkesbury, was a delight.

Around 500 years old with wonky beams and floors, but it had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and Tewkesbury is a very pleasant and interesting town. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

A great location next to the river Avon and right in the heart of Tewkesbury with plenty of great restaurants, bars and shops all within walking distance.

It was very nice when we got to cottage and the owner had booked us in the car park for the week and that was only a very short walk to car and there was every thing you needed in the cottage lovely walks by the canal would not hesitate to book the cottage again

Our hosts had thought of everything to make our stay comfortable. Highly recommended!!!

A well equipped holiday cottage, well sited for Tewksbury Abbey (at the end of the street and well worth a visit in its own right) and the numerous eateries in the town centre.

(The Salerno in particular being well worth a visit or as a place to get a good quality takeaway, as well as the Chocolate Café). The cottage is cosy with good central heating and comfortable beds, although the 2nd Floor bedroom can take a while to heat up. The TV is supplemented by a DVD player and SKY TV (without movies and Sport but with pretty much everything else). The range cooker is very effective and both fridge and freezer are a useful size. The only possible negative is that the stairs are quite steep and although not a problem for us may be for someone with mobility issues. The shower is powerful for an electric unit and the bath is of a good size. The only additional things that would have been useful which weren't provided were a reasonable size teapot and tea cosy and sharp "steak knives" for eating meat. The cottage is also well sited for visiting the Malvern Hills (30)", Bredon (10") both great for walking dogs, Symonds Yat and the Forest of Dean, the Severn Valley Railway and Stratford Upon Avon (All about 40" away). Again all worth Visiting. We were very happy with our choice of cottage as was our dog who found the little garden intriguing. We would happily recommend this to anyone looking for a comfortable cottage to stay in.

River Cottage is delightful.

...we had a lovely 4 night stay with our dog. Set on the common, perfect for your 4 legged family members and Tewksbury is right on your doorstep. The owners have thought of everything and really was home from home. So many places to see, we wish we'd booked a longer stay.

The cottage is in an excellent location, right next to the river Avon and a very short walk to pubs, restaurants and the shops.

The cottage was very comfortable, clean and had all facilities you need.

Lovely little cottage, perfectly situated being close to the town centre (1 minute walk) and the Severn Ham walk and river(30 seconds) and Victoria Gardens literally across the road!

The cottage was very well equipped, but we would like to echo other reviews of this cottage in that the two sofas are very uncomfortable and look very tired! It would be nice to have an additional frying pan and baking tray in the kitchen. There were plenty of toilet rolls, cleaning equipment and lovely toiletries provided. A nice touch was the welcome pack of bread and milk! The towels have all seen better days! As others have said, parking can be an issue and can add to the price of the holiday - you can get 24 hours parking after 5.30pm in the long stay car park at the back of Victoria Gardens for £4 but there is only 50 spaces so on a busy day it might be tricky. We did try to contact the owner by text with a minor question but he did not respond and the alternative number for his daughter was missing a digit. The beds are very comfortable and it’s nice to have a small garden to sit in. We would definitely use this cottage again as a base for exploring all the beautiful countryside in this area. A huge plus is that Tewkesbury is a very dog friendly town and people were very welcoming!

We were very happy with the location of the cottage, lovely area.

However we were disappointed with the seating, 2 sofas both uncomfortable, stools at dining table not good on uneven floor. Outside the rear was a mess, weeds everywhere roses in pots dying for lack of water, I watered them twice each day & they were recovering when we left. We managed ok because the third member of our family did not come with us. We feel that we could not recommend this cottage based on our experience.

Wonderful old cottage.

Underplayed in description. Position next to Mill, park and Ham wonderful. Lovely little back garden. Our only difficulty was it was a wet rainy week and very chilly and somehow it took us a while to figure out the heating system. When we did it was very efficient. Overall loved it.

We wanted somewhere near the Cotswolds but with a bit of character.

River Cottage had it all and was clearly described in the entry - it exceeded our expectations and the location was spot-on: close to the town but with countryside and walks literally across the road. Parking could be frustrating but in reality wasn't too much of a problem during our stay. It just needs planning! The cottage was well equipped with everything one needed; clean and welcoming atmosphere with good WiFi throughout all the rooms. The bed was really comfortable and we loved the 14th Century feel to the place (and the neighbourhood). The Malvern Hills and highlights of the Cotswolds all seemed to be 30mins or less away. The Forest of Dean was only a little further but there's also such a lot to see in Tewkesbury itself, just round the corner (literally). It would be good to have another, longer visit to explore this delightful area in more detail from such a central base.

Couple of things - parking was a bit of an issue as it was first come street parking. Felt this didn’t reflect in the price of the cottage - we book a uk based holiday once a year and river cottage was the most expensive and didn’t have a dedicated parking space. The sofas in the living room were quite uncomfortable and old fashioned. The table in the kitchen didn’t give you enough space to fully access the range cooker - even when moved. The kitchen equipment could do to include cooking tongs and also more baking trays as there was only one. The towel selection seemed very ‘second hand’ and could do with upgrading.

The setting was perfect with wonderful outlook onto the river and park.

Quiet but close enough to all amenities. If any criticism then a hairdryer and small clothes horse wouldn't go amiss. Had lovely relaxed holiday, thank you.

River Cottage is a beautiful place to stay.

Set just off the water side,.. seconds walk away from restaurants, shops, beautiful walks, is an extremely comfortable, cosy house suitable for both couples and family. The house is decorated beautifully in keeping,.. and so clean! The owner has though of all the necessary things you would need for cooking/ washing and including things to keep the children entertained!! We are already thinking about planning our next stay at River Cottage. Thankyou for a lovely break :-)
