We found the cottage itself a little disappointing. While we appreciate that it is an older property and wouldn’t expect everything to be perfect, it felt very tired in places, with some of the kitchen appliances not working particularly well. Unfortunately, the cleanliness also wasn’t great. Given the late check-in time, we did expect the cottage to have been cleaned to a much higher standard on arrival.
On a positive note, the bed was comfortable and the shower was hot, so it provided a reasonable base while we were out exploring most of the day.
The garden is a great size and fully enclosed, but the road was much busier than we anticipated, and the unfortunate arrival of temp traffic lights made it difficult to enjoy any peace on a sunny evening as well as the building works being carried out in the neighbouring property.
Therefore, we wouldn’t say the cottage itself added much to our stay.

It would be helpful to know which kitchen appliances are not working as you expected as I am not aware of any issues and none have been mentioned by other guests. If there’s an issue, owners need to be made aware of specific issues so they can be rectified for current and future guests. Perhaps you would kindly get in touch with me directly so I have these details.
Similarly, as far as cleanliness is concerned, I can guarantee that the cottage is always cleaned to a high standard, with no issues reported elsewhere. It would be helpful to know what the issues were, so changes can be implemented if necessary.
The cottage is over 300 years old, so it does have its quirks. It was renovated to provide a holiday home with all amenities provided, whilst keeping its charm and original features throughout.
A later check in time exists to ensure a property is 100% ready for the arrival of incoming guests. Sadly, when you left, even this was barely enough time to deal with the state in which you chose to leave the cottage, which is surprising when you considered it to be less clean than expected on arrival.
For future reference, if you are booking through Sykes again at any point, it is now possible at many properties, including this one, to request an earlier check in.
