“We stayed at Stables Cottage for a week, 3 generations of the same family.”

We all loved the secluded setting and saw deers and hares as well as more common wildlife in the fields in front of the cottage. The pond was a lovely feature with the mallard ducks making their daily appearance. The clear skies with little light pollution made seeking the Lyrid meteor shower easy to spot. We all loved the secluded setting and saw deers and hares as well as more common wildlife in the fields in front of the cottage. The pond was a lovely feature with the mallard ducks making their daily appearance. The clear skies with little light pollution made seeking the Lyrid meteor shower easy to spot. There was so much to explore in the area: Kennet and Avon canal with its Caen Hill Locks, we also did a short trip on the canal boat Kenavon Venture, well worth a bite-sized experience of canal boating. Avebury was a great day out for visiting a really historic site. We also visited Bath which is amazing for shopping and tourism and Bowood House for its beautiful woodland walk. The pubs in the area are great. We chose a different one every day including the Well (Bulkington), The Barge (walking distance), The Red Lion (Avebury) and Lansdowne Arms (Bowood) all worth a mention. John who owned the cottage was on hand to give information as required but left us to our holiday which was great. The cottage itself is comfortable, quiet and well stocked. The owners left lots of essentials including a nice bonus of wine, flowers and fruit. This was probably one of the most generous owners in the many years of staying with Sykes Cottages, so thank you. There were only 2 negatives: Some of the fittings were loose (in plasterboard walls) and in the twin bedroom the 2nd bed was almost unusable as there wasn’t enough room to walk past the 1st bed. This would be better served as bunk beds or another single room. The positives far outweighed these negatives though and we will miss our stay over the coming weeks. We would definitely return and recommend to others.
