“We had a wonderful three-generation break at the Cook House.”

The property was scrupulously clean and we appreciated the welcome pack. There was plenty of space for our grandchildren (7 and 4) to play inside and out and they loved the cows. We appreciated the layout which meant our bedroom and ensuite was separated from the two others. We appreciated the aircon unit in the sitting room as there is a lot of glass in the property. We managed to keep the temperatures reasonable by drawing the curtains before we went out for the day. We would happily stay ...

“It was a lovely place to stay.”

Unfortunately we were there when it was very hot. Despite having an air conditioning unit the bedrooms (particularly the front one) remained very hot. This was the accommodation that my daughter got married from and it was such a lovely setting to get ready in.

“We had a wonderful week at The Cook House celebrating our anniversary and my birthday.”

House was lovely and warm on arrival and the welcome pack was much appreciated. We enjoyed a visit to Caen Hill Locks and walked into Devizes. Picked up a leaflet for Wharf Theatre and enjoyed a play there one evening. We also spent time at Longleat, Lacock Abbey & village, Court Garden, Dyrham, Stourhead, Stonehenge, Old Sarum and Salisbury - all within 45 mins drive. Kitchen was perfect for prepping and cooking each evening and had everything we needed. We hope to return in a couple of years to do more around the area!

“A clean, light and airy cottage surrounded by countryside.”

The lane immediately outside of the cottage carried fast moving traffic - albeit not a great deal - so caution was required. There were plenty of places to walk within the immediate vicinity. The shower rooms lacked any shelf space, certainly required for storage of items needed whilst washing/teeth cleaning and whilst the kitchen was well-stocked, it lacked any kitchen towel, which was sorely missed. The larger sofa was too soft and lacking in support for my replacement hip, but the chair provided sufficed. Not convinced the living space provided would accommodate 6 persons comfortably, but for 2 or 4, it was fine. We enjoyed our stay and would probably return if visiting that area again.

“The Cook House is a very clean, modern cottage which we found warm and inviting.”

Many things to do that are not too far away i.e. Stonehenge, Avebury, Devizes Museum, Bowood, Stourhead, Iford, & The Newt in Somerset (free to RHS on Tues and Wed). Great food at The Three Daggers in nearby Edington. Westbury Station (7 miles away) is very well connected with regular trains to Bath, Bristol, Gloucester, Penzance, Reading, London and Wales. It has loads of parking with a daily rate of £3.50 to £5. The cottage has a secure shed for bike storage which was very much appreciated. The owners, who live less than 1/4 mile away, are very friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to an area we had once lived in some 60 years ago. We hope to return soon.

“A great cottage for a get away in a very pretty part of Wiltshire - very quiet setting and easy to get to lots of great attractions in all directions whether it's Salisbury, market towns or great outdoors.”

Kid friendly garden with gate to secure access from road and parking for three cars, wonderful outlook over open fields for evening meals or drinks outside. Internet good with all the TV apps ready to go if you log in. Well appointed with the details too making it a comfortable retreat with lots of information to hand.

We enjoyed the beautiful view of countryside. There are 3 bathrooms and 3 bedrooms. It is suitable for 2-3 groups of families/ friends staying for holiday. The host also kindly prepared bread, milk and snacks for us. Highly recommended!

The cottage has everything you might need & is beautifully decorated, comfortable & clean. We loved watching the deer, a hare & the birds. The birdsong all around is so lovely. The cottage is well situated to explore Wiltshire & get away from it all.

Well equipped and spotlessly clean. Great location for a range of destinations. The New Forest is easily accessible if you enjoy a drive. Stonehenge, Longleat Safari Park and Stourhead are also easily reached. Abundance of wildlife can be seen from the house, Red Kites, Buzzards, Hares and Muntjac Deer are regular visitors.

“It was definitely one of the best we have stayed at.”

We visit the U.K. regularly to visit family who we have in wales and Kent so we always try and stay somewhere different. Our number one priority is having a safe parking area for our car. This house had enough parking for around 3 cars and a security gate so felt very safe. We have chosen places before where it stated parking only to turn up and have a pay for public car park a minute away. We also like to choose places in the country so we are hidden away. This definitely was in a quiet lane but still only a 15 minute drive away from the shops in Trowbridge. After visiting family we travelled to Peppa Pig world, Longleat, and Legoland on different days, which all were around 1-1.5 hours away. It’s also worth noting that Stonehenge was only a stones throw away but with trying to get the best bang for our buck with 3 kids decided to go other places but definitely like to go back and visit. Our final day we thought we would visit the town of Bath to do some shopping. Whist it was beautiful, we didn’t realise it was a major attraction and the time getting in and out I think even getting into London city would have been quicker lol. Maybe not but you get my point. The house. It has been built and finished to a very high standard. It has 3 double bedrooms with en-suites and a generous lounge-diner. Each have underfloor heating. Having stayed many places we could tell the attention to detail the owners have gone too. There was lots of books, dvds, board games (which my 4 year old loves doing). Pretty much every utensil a kitchen would need so cooking most dishes wouldn’t be a problem. A washing machine, dishwasher and hoover etc. A beautiful garden surrounding the house with fields surrounding that. Most days you would see 2 adorable baby lambs with their mother walking the field and once entered our garden from the road although soon disappeared when the kids spotted them

Bath is a very popular tourist attraction, and would recommend catching the train from Westbury Station (15 min drive from The Cook House and ample parking). “A lovely, comfortable ‘home from home’ surrounded by fields and animals.”

There wasn’t anything we needed that wasn’t provided in the house - very well equipped. A great place from which to explore the many attractions such as Stonehenge, Longleat Safari park and, of course Bath. There are a wealth of other places to visit as well as being ideal for walkers and cyclists.

It is really clean and the owners ensured we had everything we needed for a super holiday. The cottage is well situated for days out with Salisbury, Devizes and Stonehenge right on the doorstep. “The listing did not mention how close the property is to the road.”

We could hear cars going by at night which disturbed our sleep. The shower needs a shelf to hold soap, shower gel and shampoo. The beds need a top sheet because we were very warm under the duvet and we would have liked the option of a cooler covering. Otherwise, we were very pleased with the cottage.

Thank you for your feedback, we are grateful for all comments which can assist us in improving our guests stay. There are fans in the property, and we have invested in lighter bedding as per your suggestion. With regards to comments on the description of the property and the adjacent road - the road is a single track unclassified road leading to the village and a B road, with the nearest town 6 miles away. The property was built last year, and we took into consideration the visual aspect, and as the rear of the property faces the road, no windows are on that side of the building. This means that all the walls adjacent to the road are very well insulated. However the hedge at the entrance needs to fully establish itself, and as the hedge at the rear of the property continues to grow we trust that this will help mitigate the issues raised. “The Cook House is a beautiful property which has been sympathetically designed to fit into the beautiful landscape.”

Peaceful location amongst the fields of the owners farm, sharing breakfast on the terrace with the heard of cows. All of the facilities were perfect with 3 lovely sized rooms and bathrooms making it ideal for a family with older children or a group of 6 adults. Lots of lovely details such as the welcome pack, books on local attractions and stories, a range of games for late evenings or when the weather is not perfect. Lots to see and do within a short drive away as well as lots of little picture perfect villages along the winding country roads. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Cook House and would highly recommend.

“A lovely property, everything clean and well-maintained (as you'd expect as it was only built in 2023) in a quiet location.”

Three bathrooms was a particular treat. Nice welcome basket (and even asked in advance what sort of milk and bread we'd like) and well-equipped kitchen. Washing machine, rotary airer and pegs much appreciated - though a washing basket to take the clothes outside would be a welcome addition. Our only gripes would be curtains and duvets: Thicker/more curtains and/or blinds are needed, as we were woken up early by the light coming in and the property got very hot (even though only low 20s outside) due to sun getting in even when we closed curtains during the day and particularly through the front door/full-length window where there were no curtains at all. Usual trick of closing curtains on sunny side and opening windows on the other doesn't work when you're on holiday and therefore out for much of the day (and you are asked to close windows when not in, a sensible precaution anyway particularly as all on ground floor). This would be exacerbated by duvets being pretty heavy (10 tog I'd guess?) though this is a common issue in holiday cottages so we've learnt to bring our own lighter duvets or simply sleep under the duvet covers only. Plentiful places to eat and visit locally - we had good meals at Well at Bulkington, Bell in Great Cheverall and Nerano in Devizes, and enjoyed trips to Caen Hill Locks, Westbury White Horse, Lacock Abbey and Avebury. So on balance I'd thoroughly recommend for autumn through to spring but not necessarily in summer, though we still had a lovely break.

“What a wonderful trip and home!”

! The Cook House was immaculate and had everything we could have needed. It was stocked full of information books for the house, the surrounding areas and all information we could have needed. There were games, toys to keep our toddler entertained for days and well equipped and stocked. The farm is beautiful and so peaceful. We had the most wonderful stay and will definitely be back! The owners were so great too! They greeted us on arrival and were at hand if we needed anything. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

“The Cook House was immaculately presented, with all the facilities a family of 5 (and more) could need.”

The property is located on the outskirts of a really pretty village and is well positioned for visiting the local market towns, Stonehenge, Longleat and numerous National Trust properties. We were welcomed by the owner, who kindly explained how to access local amenities, such as the walking route to the nearby fishing lake and location of the village shop. We were pleased and surprised to find a lovely arrival package, consisting of milk, bread, butter, tea, coffee, wine and even Easter eggs for the children. Conveniently, there is also a dishwasher and washing machine, for which tablets were available for our use. The property has ample parking, underfloor heating that kept the whole place cosy and warm, and the three bathrooms meant that we all had plenty of space to get ready each day. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Cook House and would not hesitate to return. Many thanks for a beautiful stay.
