What a lovely holiday home, me , my sister and my little dog absolutely loved Roan cottage.
A perfect location to places to visit and Lydiard park is 3 minutes walking to stile and you’re on the path. Wonderful hosts and facilities, couldn’t ask for more.
Thank you Gwen for your lovely feedback. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay in our cottage and visiting the local area. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. kind regards Alison and Simon
Nice little cottage with everything we needed.
It was close to the big roads but far enough away as well. Right in the middle of everything we planned to see.
Thank you so much Stephen, we are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay in our property and it was suitably located for visiting the area. We hope that you may return again! kind regards Alison and Simon
Very clean, had everything I needed for a lovely stay, very dog friendly peaceful location with Lydriard Park just down the road.
Thank you Will for your lovely feedback. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. kind regards Alison and Simon
The cottage was warm, clean and very comfortable.
The beds and bedding was perfect which led to a wonderful sleep. Its location was ideal for Swindon and surrounding areas. It was very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The WiFi was good and fast. All in all I would rate it 10 out of 10. We will certainly stay here again.
Thank you Brendan for your lovely feedback. We particularly appreciate your kind words regarding the cleanliness and beds being comfortable. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. kind regards Alison and Simon
Thank you Thomas for your lovely feedback. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. kind regards Alison and Simon
We enjoyed our stay at Roan Cottage.
Although we did not meet the owners we appreciated them keeping in contact by text messages to ensure we had everything we needed. The cottage was very clean.
Thank you so much Marie, we are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay in our property. We also appreciate your kind comments on the cleanliness. We hope that you may return again! kind regards Alison and Simon
The cottage is spacious and comfortable enough and we appreciate the efforts to sustainability.
However, maintenance is poor. Creaking chairs, very uncomfortable sofas, outdated facitilities, no cleaning materials. The pictures of the cottage do not show the ugly backside right next to an enormous farm shed. No privacy as the only outdoor space is in front of the cottage facing the street. If one has to share the front garden with the tennants of the nextdoor cottage the owner could at least have planted some bushes to provide some privacy. And why let two cottages and then only provide one garden furniture set which one has to set up oneself, having to drag it through the cottage to the front garden? For us it was clear that the owner pays as less attention to the cottage and their customers as possible. That is not what we are used to when booking via Sykes.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are glad to hear you found the cottage spacious and appreciated the sustainability efforts. We are concerned to hear that some aspects of your stay didn’t meet your expectations as we personally look after everything ourselves and other reviews from previous guests have commended us on it; what a shame you didn’t mention them to us when we met as we may have been able to address some issues during your stay. While we’ve not had previous concerns raised about the comfort of the furniture, we understand everyone’s preferences are different. Cleaning materials are provided under the sink. We’re sorry if they were difficult to see. The garden area is shared between the two cottages, which is shown in the listing, but we completely understand how the layout might not have worked for you. There are two sets of garden furniture available but during your stay the adjacent property was empty. There is a pedestrian path surrounding the property so no need to struggle anything through it and we would have been happy to place the furniture where you wished it to be situated if you’d asked us. Thank you again for your feedback, we are sorry the stay wasn’t quite what you had hoped for. Alison and Simon
We had a very comfortable week.
The cottage is ideally placed for exploring Wiltshire, and beyond. Facilities, generally, are great. If there was one negative, it would be the shower cubicle, which is quite small. Otherwise, very happy with our stay.
We value your feedback Beverley, thank you and pleased that you were happy with your stay. We are also pleased that you found our property comfortable and well located. As your comment regarding the shower may put other guests off from visiting our property we would however like to confirm that the shower cubicle is a standard size which suits most people. Regards Alison and Simon
Had a really good and relaxing holiday and also like to thank the owners for the help they gave us.

We stayed in Roan over the Christmas holiday, the cottage is clean and has everything for a perfect break including good Wi-Fi.
The cottage is very close to a large park with lovely dog walks, a playground and cafe but also very close to Swindon for retail therapy. Alison is in regular contact if you need anything. This is our third stay and every time has been excellent . We also booked Brindle cottage next door if you need a family get together
Thank you very much Alan, we are really pleased that you enjoyed your third stay in our property! We also appreciate your kind comments on the cleanliness and good Wi-Fi. We hope that you may return for a fourth visit. kind regards Alison and Simon

Roan cottage was very comfortable and pleasant.
There was everything we needed, the owners were very friendly. There was plenty to do in the area. This was one of the best cottages we have stayed in and would certainly have no hesitation in recommending it.

A lovely cottage with a warm welcome.
The cottage was clean & had all needed for a comfortable enjoyable stay. A quiet ideal position to travel around the area. The owner did not bother us in person but sent an email on our arrival to check all was well & to wish us an enjoyable stay which gave a personal touch to our stay.
Thank you so much Barbara, we are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay in our property and visiting the local area. We also appreciate your kind comments on the cleanliness. We hope that you may return one day! kind regards Alison and Simon

Thank you for your wonderful feedback Valerie. We are thrilled to hear that you loved the property and your stay! Thank you so much again for your comments and we look forward to welcoming you back! Kinds Regards, Alison and Simon
We had a lovely stay.
The cottage was homely and clean, well equipped with everything we needed. The owners were great, going extra length of posting our forgotten house keys. The area is nice with plenty of walking opportunities, exploring and family outings. We would higly reccomend.
Thank you for your wonderful feedback Viktoria. We are thrilled to hear that you loved the property and your stay. Kind regards, Alison and Simon
Very spacious and well furnished property in a good location.
Convenient for walking in Lydiard Park. It was comfortable and warm (once the initial chill was off after the first day). M4 motorway wasn’t a problem at all, however the lane immediately outside the cottage was often very busy! A most pleasant stay - we would return.
Thank you David for your feedback as it is very important to us. We are sorry to hear that you found our cottage a little chilly on the first day. What a shame you didn’t mention this when we messaged on your first day to check everything was ok for you. We would have guided you through the operating instructions which are also inside our information folder left on the table. We were also sorry to hear that the single track road outside the cottage had been very busy. Unfortunately there had been temporary traffic lights on the main road from Swindon to Royal Wootton Bassett that week and traffic then tends to use the smaller roads to avoid the queues. We are glad you had a pleasant stay overall though and hope to get the opportunity to welcome you back in the future! Kind regards Alison and Simon
Fantastic cottage very homely and perfect location We will be rebooting.
Thank you Andrew, we are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you another time! Kind regards Alison and Simon
We had a wonderful stay at Roan Cottage.
It is situated on a farm with lovely outlook, but very close to both Swindon and Royal Wootton Bassett. Hosts were lovely, very helpful and checked everything was OK when we arrived. Would definitely recommend and would definitely stay again.
Thanks very much Andrew for choosing our property and taking the time to write a review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and hope you will return one day. Alison and Simon
Clean and comfortable cottage and the milk eggs and chocolate on arrival was welcome as were the dog treats for Sid.
Great idea to leave us dog towels too as we forgot to bring any which is unlike us. Thank you.
Many thanks for your comments; we are pleased that you were happy with everything. We are also glad to hear that our small ‘welcome pack’ was useful and hope that you may return one day. Kind regards Alison and Simon
On the whole a good cosy cottage with very comfortable beds and ideally placed to visit various attractions in Wiltshire, however, the cottage would benefit from some new towels and bed linen as these were rather tired.
An extra lamp in the living room would also have been useful.
Many thanks for your feedback Gillian, we are pleased that you were comfortable in our property and liked the location. We use seersucker bed linen that is non iron; it can give the impression that it is older than it is but it is relatively new. We are sorry that there was no table lamp. Unfortunately it was recently damaged and we haven’t got round to replacing it yet but will be asap. Thanks once again for your feedback we have taken your comments on board and will address them. Kind regards Alison and Simon
What a lovely place.
It’s super quiet with lots of lovely walks around, and also decent pubs too. The cottage was spacious enough for 2 adults, 2 children and a dog. The garden is perfect for the dog too. The owners were very accommodating, would definitely recommend
Thank you very much Claire and family for your lovely comments about our property and the surrounding area. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. kind regards, Alison and Simon

Lovely property, well appointed, ideally located with both a beautiful park and a pub just down the road.
Easy access from the M4, easy access to Swindon. Brilliant location for cycling, walking or water sports. We had a lovely stay at the cottage which is spacious and beautifully decorated. Plenty of parking and easy to find. The directions on the website were spot on. Would highly recommend. The owners were also really lovely and the property was spotless. Such a great place to stay. Hope to come back soon
Thank you very much Marie for your lovely comments about our property and the surrounding area. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and really hope that you will return one day. Kind regards Alison and Simon
It was amazingly clean, well kept property!
We had everything we could want in the kitchen too cook for a family. I think the only thing I would add would be a coffee cafetière, but we highly recommend this property. Simon & Matthew were lovely. Thanks for a great stay. Paula LB
Thank you very much Paula for taking the time to write a review on our property, We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and found our cottage met your requirements. I checked this morning and found the cafetière which was behind the tea and coffee in the cupboard above the sink. We hope it didn’t spoil your stay. Regards Alison and Simon
Second visit and will visit again.
Roan cottage is exactly as described in the listing. Well equipped cottage that makes for a very comfortable stay.
Thank you Lynda, we are so pleased your second stay was again good. We look forward to you returning to us! Alison and Simon

Local to amenities and good base to travel sites around the citswolds and area. Was nice to entertain family who live local and would highly recommend this place and will definitely return. Excellent week away
Thank you very much Sharon for choosing to stay in our property and for taking the time to write a review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and really appreciate your kind words. We hope that you will return one day. Alison and Simon
Roan Cottage provided a very convenient base for exploring the south Cotswolds and beyond into Somerset.
The accommodation was fairly basic in comparison to our usual bookings but it was very good value being significantly cheaper than our usual options. It was clean, with a useful lawned garden for our dog and comfortable but we found the shower cubicle very small and the cooking facilities fairly basic. Overall, a well-located, comfortable cottage representing very good value.
We value your feedback and are pleased that you found our property well located, good value and comfortable etc. As your comment regarding the shower may put other guests off from visiting our property we would however like to confirm that the shower is a standard size which suits most people.
A lovely, clean comfortable cottage in a beautiful part of the world.
We would love to come back sometime.
Roan Cottage was a very relaxing place for us to us as a base for the week and explore the wonderful activities and places of interest that Wiltshire and the Cotswold’s have to offer.
A hidden gem.
Fantastically well placed in a small hamlet outside Swindon.Easy access to Lydiard park to walk your Dog. The facilities are outstanding. Full Credit to Alison & Simon. Thank you so much
Lovely cottage everything you needed for a comfortable relaxing break
The floor was very slippery could do with a rug, but other than that, it's well equipped and very clean.
The owner was very helpful
Beautiful cosy cottage in a fantastic area, well equipped, love the open plan living area and two large bedrooms and a massive bathroom.
Plenty of lovely walks on the doorstep
Lovely stay
Beautiful 2 bedroom cottage on the outside of a farm with a few houses nearby - very quiet and peaceful - it also has Brindle Cottage attached to it - loads of space for 4 adults and a dog so not over crowded - shops about 3 miles away
The cottage was excellent, every thing clean, comfortable and well designed.
The only thing that was missed was the microwave and fridge needed a clean.
Had a lovely time perfect for a break away with our dogs.
Sykes has once again lived up to it's high standards.
We have never been let down by yourselves and were delighted to find Roan Cottage just as we had hoped. We would have stayed longer if we could. Alison and Simon (the owners) were friendly and helpful. We would not hesitate to book another holiday with yourselves - Roan Cottage is high on the list!!!
What a great place to stay!
Quiet location next to a farm. Perfect for us. Comfortable, clean, spacious and well equipped. It was a home from home. We would definitely like to find a reason to stay again. Great host, available to answer queries.
We enjoyed the are, it was so beautiful and so much history.
We had wonderful sunny weather and loved sitting outside in the evening watching the world go by. The owners were really friendly but not intrusive. We would definitely go back as it felt like home from home. So comfortable
We had a wonderful time at Roan Cottage!
Our son lives nearby and was getting married,we usually stay with him and his girlfriend but needed more space this time! Plenty of space in Roan Cottage for two adults, two teenagers and our dog. Superbly clean and super facilities- I iced and decorating the four tier wedding cake there. After the wedding we had time to visit nearby Avebury and Bristol, plus plenty of dog walking in Lydiard Park ,which is next to the cottage. Super touches such as text messages on arrival and departure to check all was okay, and biscuits, milk and eggs on arrival. Recommended highly!
Really nice cottage clean and comfortable and the owners didn’t bother us but made sure we were happy which was appreciated.
Lovely area plenty of places to visit.
The cottage was clean comforyable and well equiped.
The location was great for exploring North Wiltshire and beyond, close to Swindon, Royal Wootton Bassett Marlborough, Corsham and M4 for Bristol and Bath. Quiet location on a narrow road. Supermarkets close by and Wootton Bassett has a selection of smaller shops to wonder around.
From arrival to the end of our stay we were in complete relaxation.
Great location and hospitality and left to our own devices! Will definitely be coming back, very convenient for The Cotswolds and surrounding areas! Cottage is very clean and specious. Large garden with plenty space for your pets to roam! Thank you so much to Alison and Simon for having us. X
The only thing I can say about it was the cottage was excellent, one thing was odd, that everytime the lamp by the TV was switched on when the TV was on it turn the TV over to the DVD.
.
One of the best equipped cottages we have been to.
Owner made contact to ensure everything was ok. Park only a two minute walk away which is great with a dog yet you are only minutes away from the centre of town.
Lovely quiet place to stay, very handy for the M4
Roan Cottage was extemely clean and comfortable and when we arrived we found Alison and Simon had left us eggs, milk and apples from their garden.
They'd also left some doggie treats and a towel for my dog, Snoop, which has never happened in all the years we've used holiday cottages. I'd also sent a text asking about dog friendly pubs in the area and Alison had left us a hand written list which was very helpful. We'd definately recommend this cottage for it's home comforts, location and the thoughtfulness of it's owners.
Good location for day trips to Oxford, Bath or the Cotswalds.
Cottage very comfortable, had all amenities you need.
A thoughtfully, well-equipped, clean and very comfortable cottage; greeted with welcoming little extras.
The owners were unintrusive yet readily available if required. Beautiful location and a great touring base. A variety of supermarkets and restaurants a short drive away. Would definitely return and recommend to anyone.
This place was fantastic, a real home from home.
Lovely touch by the owners leaving some chocolate and some dog treats & they were very caring and attentive with calls and text messages. We loved it that much that we have already booked to go again next year. I would highly recommend this place as a base if you want to just relax and watch the world go by. You could also get to Bristol in 45 minutes which we did. Swindon is a few minutes away too. You can do as much or as little as you like.
Roan is a comfortably well equipped cottage, near to amenities, situated in a lovely part of England.
close to transport links.
A lovely holiday home just 2 homes together on a working farm - beautiful countryside - can get 2 a lot of places from here - it was home from home with everything that I'd need including washing machine and dish washer .
This was a great cottage especially for someone with restricted mobility.
It was in a great location, quiet clean and comfortable. The owners communication was great and the little extras were appreciated and a surprise. We enjoyed so much we have just booked it for next year
It was very pleasant and we met the owners who were very pleasant too.
We know the area well and it was therefore well situated for us.
