“We've been booking cottages through Sykes Cottages (Helpful Holidays) for our holidays to England for almost 20 years.”

They're usually a great success, but there are also occasional setbacks. This cottage, unfortunately, was a disappointment. When we arrived, it was barely 15 degrees Celsius inside. It would have been nice if the heater had been turned on earlier; this was a truly chilly welcome. The bathroom heating wasn't working at all, and previous tenants had left early because of this. So, it wasn't a new issue, and the owner didn't do anything about it. It was a cold week during our visit, which was quite annoying. The bath was large, and it was wonderful to warm up! The bedrooms are spacious, the beds were comfortable, and the area was nice and quiet, so we slept well. Unfortunately, the sofas, as many tenants have mentioned, were terrible to sit on. We also missed the operating instructions for the appliances in the cottage. This can be helpful for non-UK residents. For £641, we expected more. It's a shame, because the house looks really nice and was well-cleaned. Better luck next time!

Many thanks for your comments. We’re very sorry to hear that aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations, particularly regarding the heating. We would like to reassure you that the heating system is fully functional and there are simple controls to change the heating system to your liking. There is a labelled switch for the bathroom towel rail which needs to be turned on separately, and this may have been the reason it did not appear to be working. We understand how important a warm welcome is, especially during colder weather, and we appreciate your comments. We also understand that comfortable sofas are a personal preference and not to everyone's taste. Sykes and ourselves were not made aware during your stay that you were experiencing any difficulties. We are always very happy to liaise with Sykes and arrange any assistance needed. We’re pleased to hear that you found the property clean, enjoyed the spacious bedrooms and comfortable beds, and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings. Thank you again for your feedback Property Owner
