“We have to say that Washpool is one of the nicest holiday cottages we have ever had the pleasure of booking.”

Friendly, helpful owners, great location, peace and quiet, wonderful facilities and an extremely well-equipped cottage, lovely hot tub and comfortable beds - there really wasn't anything we could fault! Washpool is convenient for most of the main attractions in the Cotswolds, just a few minutes' drive from Burford and less than 20 to Stow on the Wold and beautiful Bourton. The Hare in Milton does the most delicious food and is walkable, albeit on country roads and hills. One thing to note for ...

“A fabulous cottage.”

Everything you need, with some added extras. Anne & Mike were so welcoming, they gave us a little tour of the farm and the children even got to feed the horses and pigs. They made some fabulous recommendations . We arrived to freshly made scones (clotted cream & Jam) and a few other little extras. The hot tub was a bonus. Gowns and towels are provided too. It took a little bit of warming but once ready, we all enjoyed some lovely evenings chilling. The cottage is a perfect location for exploring the Cotswolds. Just 10 mins from Burford and Chipping Norton, we also visited Stow on the Wold, Daylesfords, Broadway Tower, the Wildlife Park, Diddly Squat, Bourton on the Water, Blenheim Palace. We even went to the local park which had a very well equipped playground for all ages. We had some lovely days out and all easy to get to. We enjoyed a lovely curry at the Spice Lounge in Burford and a fantastic meal at the Hare at Milton just up the road. We would highly recommend this cottage and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. “Washpool Cottage was everything we hoped for and more.”

We spent a relaxing and comfortable two weeks in the cottage. The moment we walked into the beamed kitchen and found a welcome pack including jam, cream and home made scones we knew it was going to be a good holiday. The owners were helpful and friendly showing us how to light the wood burning hot tub and making sure we had everything we needed. The beds were soft and comfy and everything was beautifully furnished. We are already planning a return visit.

“The cottage was very comfortable and clean and well positioned for travel around the Cotswolds.”

Rooms were all of a good size and well equipped with TV's etc and reliable WiFi. We received a welcome package of dog treats, clotted cream, scones, jam and apple juice which was really nice. We have a whippet and so having a fully enclosed garden was a must for us. The only downside was when we arrived the brochure said dogs were not allowed to pee in the enclosed flagged area. The only other option was to walk the dog along the road which was both narrow and fairly busy. It would have been really useful is either the area in front of the cottage or somewhere else on the farm could have been designated as an area for the dog (we do pick up after him). The owner did forget to put milk in the fridge and did offer to get us some, but we had brought our own.

Welcome pack - scones jam and cream plus doggie snack a lovely surprise. Whole place was very well equipped. Good to have downstairs WC. Clear instructions for cooktop.would be useful. Advice also that main bedroom shower was in the high sided bath. An excellent time away for four people.

“A great week celebrating our wedding anniversary back where we used to live.”

The cottage was a wonderful space to share with friends socially and relax in comfort. The kitchen and large breakfast bar were perfect for entertaining. The peaceful location with no light pollution helped our sleeping. We didn’t need to light the wood burner indoors but so enjoyed the wood fired hot tub and the scones were the best we have ever tasted! Thank you to all the Hartley family.

Clean and extremely cosy and comfortable with lots of thought put into small details you may need during your stay like foil and tupperware for packing picnics. We enjoyed the hot tub and it was a treat to start each day with the nespresso coffee machine. “The cottage itself is outstanding, beautifully furnished and decorated and has everything one could want.”

We loved it. The written information left at the property seemed rather out of date with nowhere to write any recommendations or tips for future guests. Although the cottage is listed as dog friendly it should be made clear that there are no walks straight from the cottage, despite that being stated on some of the website listings for this property. Dogs are permitted in the farmyard not the cottage patio. The lane outside the cottage is very very busy and there is no verge or pavement which made walking our dog first thing in the morning or last thing at night hazardous. Other than that we had a wonderful stay and would recommend to non-dog owners.

Made good use of the courtyard garden to eat out and chill. Location was very central to visit beautiful Cotswold towns. Owner gave great tip for lovely morning walk for the dog. All facilities were of a good quality with comfortable beds and sofas. Would certainly recommend.

“Can't recommend this property highly enough.”

It is an excellent conversion of the former stables. Timber from these stables has been carefully blended into the cottage. The furnishings and décor in the lounge were tasteful and of a high standard. Double doors open onto a patio with garden table/chairs and log fired hot tub, which takes 2 hours to heat up. Sun loungers are available in the shed. The kitchen is very modern, well equipped and offers all the resources you require. Upstairs there are 2 large double ensuite bedrooms with king size beds. The property is in a quiet location, sitting between a country lane and a large courtyard.

“To Manor Cottages: We stayed at the Washpool rental for two weeks in the first half of May 2023.”

While the property was unremarkable on the outside, the stable conversion was superb. It was luxurious and comfortable, and very tastefully furnished and decorated. We were impressed with how completely it was outfitted – absolutely everything we needed for cooking and living was there, and more. The collection of guidebooks and maps was helpful, too. The location in rural Upper Milton was ideal for a 2-week stay in the Cotswolds. We used it as a base to explore the rectangle bounded by Cheltenham, Warwick, Oxford, and Bath. Our hosts, the Hartley brothers and their wives, were delightful and gracious. They provided us not only with useful local information and good conversation, but also with a tour of the pig-farm part of their extensive operation. That was fun, and quite instructive. “This rates as one of the best self-catering holiday properties that we have rented!”

It has been fitted out to a very high standard. We were welcomed with freshly baked scones, clotted cream and jam and that set the tone for the week. The owners were very friendly and concerned to ensure that everything met our expectations. There was so much to do in the local area and some great pubs for meals. The home was absolutely beautiful (I could have lived there). I thought that the cottage was going to be smaller than it was but it was super spacious with everything you could possibly need. “Amazing cottage, old wooden beams but modern and high quality fixtures and tasteful, comfortable furniture.”

The beds are perfect not too hard or soft and fluffy downy duvets for winter, Lots of space to stretch out in front of the log fire in the lounge and the wood-fired hot tub under the stars was really special. The owners were close by and are very helpful and friendly, but didn't interrupt our stay. A car is preferable but not essential - if you don't mind spending a bit of money to go out and about there's a reliable taxi in Wychwood.

The cottage itself has everything you will need in your stay, with home comforts as well. Plenty of utensils for those that enjoy cooking. Location is great for getting out and exploring the Cotswolds by car, we were able to easily access all the typical tourist hotspots. We walked down to the Hare pub a couple of times which was a treat, gorgeous Sunday lunch. It is a country road with no path the majority of the way. We used the hot tub a couple of times.

“Absolutely stunning cottage in a superb location for exploring the Cotswolds.”

The owners were very helpful & friendly. The cottage exceeded expectations & we had an amazing time here. The only disappointment was that it wasn’t within easy walking distance to the pub as it was along a 60mph road with no pavement so we didn’t brave that walk !! My daughter loved the hot tub..bit tricky to heat up though as it’s wood fired so you had to wait at least 2 hours for it to warm up…think it would benefit from a normal hot tub but this is only a minor point & certainly didn’t affect our holiday. We would love to come back !!

“This cottage is fantastic!”

we stayed here last May and decided to return as it was one of the best accommodation we had been to. Ideal for two couples as we both have our own bathrooms. Equipped to a very high standard and owners in hand incase of any problems. We woke up one morning to find there was no hot water and it was sorted as soon as possible (boiler fault) This year we finally got the hang of the wood fired hot tub!

“Washpool Cottage is ideally located to explore the Cotswolds.”

It is a very spacious cottage but still maintains it's cosy character. It is very clean and everything is at hand and catered for - a real home-from-home with the added luxury of the Swedish hot tub! The garden is very dog friendly - our four legged friend couldn't escape the walled garden! The bedrooms are lovely and the beds are huge and extremely comfortable which makes for a very good night's sleep after exploring the area. Lots of nice places nearby by to eat and drink. A throughly lovely place to stay - would highly recommend it.

“An excellent cottage for our group of 4, a well equipped kitchen, lovely lounge with plenty of seating, two good sized bedrooms and ensuites, and very comfortable beds.”

It is the best cottage for a group of 4 that we have stayed in.An added bonus is the hot tub after a day out! Location is great, near to many places in the Cotswolds and only a few mins from the lovely town of Burford. The local pub the Hare serves very good food, and there are good walks nearby. We will definitely be back!

The cottage was spotlessly clean throughout . The whole cottage was set up to a high standard from fittings & soft furnishings to bed linens and bathrobes. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything we needed. The setting was very tranquil whilst also being a great base from which to explore the local area- Burford is close by, and other traditional Cotswold villages are in easy reach (e.g.Stow-on-the Wold, Bourton on the water). We loved the log fired hot tub, and had a very comfortable stay. My dog came too, and was made very welcome. I'm very happy to recommend this cottage and would love to return.

“The cottage was immaculate, the family run it beautifully flowers and homemade scones clotted cream and jam awaiting our arrival.”

We choose the hottest week to visit and we’re so lucky to have the tub to sit in and cool off. The surrounding area is so beautiful our dogs loved it. Lots of lovely walks. We were there for Harvest time under the harvest moon. Would definitely recommend this cottage fantastically equipped kitchen, very comfy beds, lovely high class towels and bed linen. Weather was so wonderful we ate out on the patio for all our meals never used the sitting room.

The property

Washpool is situated in a small hamlet itself on the edge of a popular, attractive Cotswolds village Milton Under Wychwood.

The property has undergone a complete modernisation and is now a chic, cute cottage for four people.

Situated on a small farm and opposite the village’s old wash pool, the cottage is a traditional Cotswolds’ building where many of the period features have been carefully retained.

On the ground floor is an open plan kitchen diner which leads to a light, yet cosy living room (with doors to the terrace also).

Upstairs are two bedrooms and two ensuite bathrooms making it ideal for two couples as we all as families.

Outside is a private courtyard style garden, surrounded by a large/high stone wall and a hot tub and table and chairs.

This property will except 1 well behaved dog, at an additional charge of £50 per week.

Please be aware that owners have their own dogs.

There is ample parking for up to 3 cars.

The cottage is specifically in the hamlet of Upper Milton, which is about ½ mile from Milton Under Wychwood.

There are miles and miles of walks from your front door, along with popular places such as Burford, Bourton on the Water and Stow on the Wold, plus Chipping Norton (all of which have excellent facilities, shops etc) all within a max 10 min drive.

Within walking distance in the village of Milton is one of the Cotswolds’ best pubs The Hare, along with a small coffee shop and also convenience store Co-Op.

Milton-Under-Wychwood is a village and civil parish in West Oxfordshire. The village has one pub called The Hare which is a gastropub. Wychwood public library is located in a converted shop. Local attractions are Foxholes Nature Reserve, Wychwood Wild Garden park and for those interested in outdoor activities The Wychwood Golf Club, all within a few miles of the village. For the art enthusiasts look to Tosley Museum housed in the early Tudor market building, famous for its doll’s houses and large photographic collections. Also nearby is the St Nicholas Church, which is the resting place of the designer of the Forth Rail Bridge, Sir Benjamin Baker. Little has survived of the Norman church except its ornate north doorway. Milton-Under-Wychwood is 4 miles north of Burford and 7 miles south of Chipping Norton.
