“On arrival the parking was easy in front of the property.”

The house was very comfortable with plenty of utensils in the kitchen and everywhere was clean. There was a couple of issues in the house when we arrived the fridge and freezer had been switched off and the milk that was left for us had gone off and was curdled, the blind in the twin bedroom is broken, the cooker hood is loose and in danger of falling off, one of the cupboard doors in the bedroom unit is off its hinges, the window in the bathroom wouldn't open. Having said that the house is in a good position for exploring nearby beautiful villages and an easy drive to Blenheim Palace. There are some good eating establishments in the village. I would stay at this property again.

“A tad disappointing I'm afraid!”

This property needs a complete deep clean & redecoration. The basement smelled strongly of "dog" (OK this is a dog welcoming property but obviously no attempt had been made to "air" the room after the last dog!). Paint work in & out is very tired (especially the front door - not very welcoming!) with peeling plaster in places on walls & ceilings. Bathroom window will not open (I didn't fancy forcing it!), cooker hood panel hanging loose (others have mentioned this!!). The over bath shower in the first floor bathroom has no "hand holds" so VERY dodgy for anyone with limited mobility. A few basics missing rom the kitchen (such as oven gloves!). Also being on a main road the access & egress from the allocated parking spot is hazardous. On the plus side it is very well situated & the POTENTIAL was obvious. I hope the owners recognise this!

“The property is in a great location.”

The beds are comfortable and the showers work. The living area is a bit cramped - we were 4 adults and a small child but it's ok. The bedroom on the first floor is spacious and well furnished. The rooms of the second floor - a double and a twin are under the eaves and rather less well appointed. The downstairs loo is convenient and the washing machine works well and there is a drying space outside. The seating area in the garden is pleasant. It was clearly a very nice house when it had been renovated but is now a bit rundown and while not dirty there are grubby marks on the doors and the windows benefitted from cleaning. There was a shortage of bowls and small plates which we remedied at a local charity shop.

“Overall the property's aesthetics are lovely especially keeping the beams in the top floor roofings.”

The property was good it came with an parking space as this made everything a lot easier. Unfortunately the housekeeping part let the property down massivly. Everything was disgusting and grimy. Skirting boards were not cleaned, bannister, touch points like switches and plugs were black with dust and grease. Cupboard doors were dirty, extractor fan was clogged with dirt. The list could honetly go on. The downstairs basement we did not use as this smelt very damp and there was cobwebs all around the lamp and side unit. The maintenance could do with some slight appearance. The extractor hob cupboard is broken, the bin doesnt open with the cupabord as not attached. The biggest one is the ceiling in the upstairs bedroom above the single beds they are practically falling off and are so soft to touch - did not feel at ease having kids sleeping under it. Could do with a general re fresh of all the walls in the property to bring it back to life and a really big deep clean. Such a shame as with the above rectified its a stunning property in such a great area.

“We were there for my birthday weekend 3 nights.”

Lovely cottage and great location, there was an initial problem when a chap walked in saying he too had booked the cottage for the week via booking.com. He rang the owner who told him that he had cancelled it with booking.com and was going to meet him to sort something out. We tried to ring Sykes we did get through after a long wait then transferred to another department but they didn't answer, so that was a bit stressful. I spoke with the man and he was happy that the owner was meeting him and we didn't see him again. The cottage could have been cleaner, and there were a lot of little things that needed repairing such as a door knob, the showers were not brilliant due to water pressure. There were no instructions for the boiler and the furniture was a bit dated but comfortable. The bin in the bathroom had not been emptied and was full. The beds were extremely comfortable. Would we go back? Probably not but I would say its worth a try as it may suit others, definitely conveniently placed and comfortable enough.

“Arrived to a warm house and a bowl of Christmas chocolates.”

Unfortunately the cleaners hadn’t been before we did though so all the beds and towels were used by the previous guests. A quick call to Sykes sorted it quickly and it was NYE 3pm! Could have done with toilet roll replenished, a tea towel and washing up liquid (and at least 1x dishwasher tablet) but everything else was fine. Comfy beds, hot showers etc. Parking outside the property, M&S nearby, and wonderful Cotswolds hills all around. Recommend The Red Lion Inn at Long Compton with a circular walk nearby.

“Good points; great location, big house, enclosed garden, comfortable beds and clean bedding and towels.”

Bad points; when we arrived we found an empty prescription box and glass of water by the bed and clothing in the wardrobe, the carpets are filthy with stains everywhere, bathroom has limescale and mould, missing handle cover on tap, behind cabinet in lounge was filthy, it just had an overall feeling of ‘can’t be bothered’ such a shame as it’s a great house.

“We had a lovely week at Victoria Cottage with our two dogs.”

It’s well located for Chipping Norton and Clarksons Farm, while Chipping is a great base to explore the Cotswolds. While noting the maintenance comments raised, particularly in the basement, the main rooms and areas were fine and comfortable and keeping in mind pets are allowed so robust versus perfect is often preferred. Would certainly stay again.

That was a terrible start late on a Friday afternoon, and frankly, it is inexcusable. The breakdown was in communication and oversight. Remarkably, we were not offered any consideration.

“We found Victoria Cottage to be a pleasant stay over the Christmas week.”

The cottage is in a great location in Chipping Norton, walking distance to all local restaurants, pubs and supermarkets . The large rear garden is a great asset (would be lovely during the warmer months!). The car space is tight but was available at all times during our stay. The property falls short overall cleanliness and maintenance. Cleaning supplies provided were slim and lack basics. We had to request a hoover and dust pan which was provided same day. After use of Difficult to maintain the cottage without providing the essentials. Fireplace was a lovely feature but no instructions to remove the ash build up. Victoria Cottage is in a great location within the Cotswolds but does require improvements. The cleanliness of the cottage including dust throughout needs to be addressed. The mould in the upper bedroom also illustrates the overall maintenance issues of the cottage. These issues can be addressed with continuous maintenance. Overall Victoria Cottage is a nice rental but does require improvement. Location, layout and outdoor space is great. Just needs deep clean and more soft facilities. Victoria Cottage appeared a more clinical rental compared to prior rentals I have stayed with Manor Cottages.

Yes, the cottage could do with a little tlc but it is an old cottage!! The woodburner was lovely with a garage literally a 2 minute walk away that sold wood so it was lovely and cosy. We will definitely be staying there again.

“Location was ideal.”

. getting into the property was no problem. beds comfortable and clean. However no toilet paper in the main bathroom, no handwash either which was unbelivable. No tea towels or hand towels for the kitchen also you couldn't cook as only 1 saucepan available. No towel in the downstairs cloakroom. Areas of damp thats been painted over. Bottle bin outside was overflowing. For the price we paid, the cottage is tired and in need of a good internal refurbishment.

“The cottage was ideally placed in central Chipping Norton, albeit on an extremely busy road with tight parking.”

The beds were very comfortable - BUT - this cottage needs some serious maintenance to justify the rental costs. There were several missing lightbulbs, broken/damaged furniture (bedside cabinet on 2nd floor and basement coffee table) and some window blinds were coming unstrung. The ceiling above the dining area had peeling, blackened paper hanging off - probably a result of a leak from the bathroom above. The downstairs toilet has mould on the party wall, and the garden needed a good weed and bushes cut back. Such a pretty cottage but definitely needs some love.

I tried to transfer my holiday at the beginning after a few days of booking my original holiday. Due to work commitments i had to change my dates by one day, and was penalised £904.30 for making an error when trying to transfer my holiday. Never again!

Compact but can accommodate a family. Worth noting that it is split over 4 floors so lots of tight stairs. Comfortable beds and warm house. Great to have a garden for our dog. Note that the garden is divided by a small alley way so there are 2 gates. Prompt communication from the owner.

“Victoria Cottage was a lovely base to explore the Cotswolds and surrounding areas.”

The cottage was warm, cosy and comfortable and was based a very short walk from Chipping Norton. We didn’t do much cooking but the small galley kitchen looked well equipped to make meals. There was a secure private garden for our dogs, (but make sure the gate to the busy road is closed as this is shared with a neighbour to access a small path leading to neighbours garden). Chipping Norton has plenty of pubs, shops and restaurants and we went there most evenings for food and drink. The locals are really welcoming and friendly and the pubs and restaurants welcomed our dogs just as warmly. The blue Boar and Chequers were our favourites and Alberto’s Italian Restaurant was a great discovery. As well as providing great food and drink Alberto’s welcomed our dogs too, it’s well worth a visit. The Cotswold villages are breathtaking and there are photo opportunities at every corner. Would definitely recommend Victoria Cottage and hope to return ourselves as there are still plenty of places we didn’t get around to visiting.

“We can only compare with previous like for like properties we’ve rented in the Cotswolds at Xmas period.”

The property has the potential to be a nice house but lacks maintenance and needs a refurbishment. We had plumbing issues but in fairness the Agent/owner rectified the issues quickly. Previously our Xmas rentals provided excellent festive decorations but none was provided here. The house is fine for 4 but tight with 6 persons staying. Again going on previous experiences items like dishwasher tablets and cleaning products were in abundance but nothing here. No welcome hamper either. Furnishings and beds were comfortable.When renting for 6 you expect tableware for that number but only catered for 4, the same with some crockery like dinner plates. The property sits on a main road but we never found this a problem.The parking for One car is very tight though. Maybe it’s the company standard against Rural Retreats who we used previously that offers a different level . We made the most of the location and generally had a nice time.Tweeks and refurbishment could make a big difference

“Hi I have rented cottages from Sykes before and this the worse cottage I have rented .”

I am concerned about the damp and , the smell from the basement was over powering from the 3 steps down . All our clothes smell of damp . We couldn't work the heating so none of our towels got dried . There were no bath mats so it was difficult stepping out of the shower without slipping . No toilet rolls no hand soap so we had to go and buy some from the garage late at night on arrival . Two of us have horrible coughs now from the damp in the cottage this should not be rented .

To Ms Collin, I have been renting the cottage with Sykes Cottages for the last 3 years. I go to the cottage every Friday to check that the cleaners have been in, and I have never smelt any damp in the basement and nobody has ever said there is a smell of damp in the cottage. The heating is a modern combi boiler and is very easy to use, most guests turn it of when they leave, and any new guest will always call me on my mobile if there is a problem. I can only apologize if the cleaners did not leave bath matts, toilet paper and soap. This is something I will take up with them. If you did not have the heating on at all over that cold weekend, then it would have been uncomfortable for you, and I only wish you had called me. Regards Max. Property Owner

Easy walking distance to town centre and a great base for the North of the Cotswolds. Nice little extra of milk in the fridge and a lovely M&S cake to share. Clean and tidy. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because we felt it was ready for a lick of paint.

“Overall we were happy with the property, just one or two minor niggles.”

There were no sheets on two of the beds and there was no wood for the stove despite the details saying it was included with the rental. It was a cold weekend so we bought some. Nice touches were the milk in the fridge and a cake for us. The garden was pretty and the cottage in an excellent location.

“Wonderful place to stay.”

Everything was clean and the cottage was warm, even though the weather wasn't! We found the location was excellent, good choice of shops nearby for necessary items and some lovely gift shops too. During the week we managed a day trip by train to Oxford (there's a mainline station with parking at Kingham). Local farm park (Adam Henson's) very good for a day out too. Owner was extremely helpful and we would love to come back. There is a busy road outside, but if you want to be near a town, that's part of being in a convenient location.

“In a great location 5 mins from Village centre .”

Marks and Spencer Foodhall 5 mins in other direction. plus Aldi nearby .Parking area right outside cottage . Owner not very friendly when we ran into problems with Heating and Cooker hob . Simple written instructions would have been so helpful iso we didn’t have to call him .instructions for rubbish would’ve have also been useful . Despite the above problems had a lovely weekend catching up with friends .

It could be lack of use. The information also needs updating - the booklet on the oven is out of date. We would have liked to put the central heating on but couldn't understand the instructions!

“Lovely cottage, everything you need.”

Only thing would be to state that the garden has a walkway for other neighbours to get to their gardens so had to remember to shut the gate in case the dog got out. Also water pressure could be a little better as you couldn't run a tap when the shower was on otherwise the showers pressure dropped significantly.

A short walk to the centre of Chipping Norton for pubs, shops and convenience stores. Ideal for two adults and our dog. Plenty of bedroom and bathroom space, but limited kitchen and ground floor area. A nice outside area.

“The kitchen needs a door on as every time the oven or hob is switched on it sets the fire alarm off which is extremely distressing The kitchen needs a better range of cooking utensils as there isn't enough pans etc to make a proper meal for 6 adults.”

A number of glasses and crockery were chipped so we had to put them.in the bin I think this is from the lovely Belfast sink Need to have a drying facility there is no indoor or proper outdoor facilities for drying clothes after getting soaked by the British weather
