“Lovely little cottage set in a beautiful location.”

Clean and had everything you could need. Kitchen well equipped, fridge small but enough for 2 people. hosts very friendly and helpful. Well placed for many attractions in this part of the Cotswolds, we visited several stunning gardens, Blenheim, Oxford and a few charming villages. The garden is huge and we loved watching the deer visit as well as the red kites which seem to be everywhere. My only small gripe is that the sofa isn’t really big enough for 2 to relax comfortably and the wicker armchair wasn’t overly comfortable. However it’s a lovely place and I would recommend.

The property

Garden Cottage is a delightful holiday cottage located adjacent to the wonderful Shilbrook Manor, itself a listed building built around the 1860's.

The property has undergone a complete overhaul and today provides a high standard of self catering accommodation whilst overlooking a simply stunning garden of two acres.

The cottage is situated on the edge of the hamlet of Black Bourton, which has history dating back to 1086, and is within easy reach of popular spots such as Burford, Woodstock and Lechlade on Thames.

This romantic hideaway is ideal for a couple who want to escape to the Cotswolds. The owner, who is a garden designer, is also a keen horticulturalist very happy to sell plants (when and where possible!) in addition to eggs and home made preserves.

About the location

BLACK BOURTON

Bampton 2 miles; Burford 7 miles; Oxford 21 miles.

Black Bourton is a small medieval village in Oxfordshire, notably the birthplace of influential novelist Maria Edgeworth and painter William Turner of Oxford. Black Bourton has an excellent gastropub and is home to St Mary the Virgin Church which features superb 13th century wall paintings carefully uncovered in 1932. The nearby village of Bampton, one of the principle locations for Downton Abbey, is well worth a visit to discover the many sites of interest, including the West Oxfordshire Arts Gallery. Burford, the ‘gateway' to the Cotswolds, is within easy reach, and Oxford is just 21 miles away. An excellent base for touring this beautiful region.
