“Whilst the accommodation was lovely in many respects, we would not go as far as to say it was "perfect in every way" as billed on the notice on the street.”

A few things were disappointing for us: - the reception rooms were quite gloomy despite it being summer, and they were also on the chilly side despite the temperature outside. Yes, the owner did say we could have the heating on, but that shouldn't really be necessary and is not very sustainable. - the kitchen set-up was quite a challenge for self-catering. Yes, the owner did say we could have the heating on, but that shouldn't really be necessary and is not very sustainable. - the kitchen set-up was quite a challenge for self-catering. Some of the cooking equipment and crockery was much too large for both the dishwasher and sink/drainer (and nothing could go on the drainer until the sink was no longer needed!). Whilst mismatching crockery can be funky, sometimes it is nice to have matching sets of four especially if you are trying to be fair with wine! - the fridge was missing a shelf suitable for bottles of milk, wine etc. - the sofa was uncomfortable for anything longer than 10 minutes or so -quite low down, and possibly it's had its day. We saw from the visitors book that the property has been let since c2012, so it may be that it's just in need of a refresh. Might be worth the owners staying there for a 'holiday' themselves to experience the facilities through customers' eyes...

The property

What a sweet and historic cottage!

Kettle Cottage, literally, is a gem of a holiday home tucked down a little cobbled alley off the Chipping Campden High Street.

With records dating back many hundreds of years, this archetypal bolt hole was originally where the locals used to come to get their kettles mended, in fact today on the High Street you'll see a huge wall mounted kettle Outside the main house!

Now, instead of mending kettles, you can walk in under a minute to view an art gallery, enjoy a meal, a coffee or be enjoying a bracing walk on the Cotswold Way.

Inside, the cottage is simply but well furnished, compact and ideal for two but able to accommodate four (there are two large bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs*).

The rooms upstairs are large and light.

It is a lovely little cottage in one of the Cotswolds most attractive and popular locations.

About the location

CHIPPING CAMPDEN

Moreton-in-Marsh 8 miles; Stratford-upon-Avon 12 miles

This market town defines the saying "good things come in small packages" as it proves itself to be a wonderful place for tourists to stay. Chipping Campden sits in the northern part of the Cotswolds and boasts many historical buildings from St. James' church where the Chipping Camden Music Festival is held every year, to the early 17th century market hall upon which the town prides itself. Not only does the town have a rich history but much more, the high street is laced with charming Cotswold stone buildings with a range of shops and pubs. Nearby there are several beautiful, formal gardens for you to wander through. Chipping Campden has held its own 'Olimpick Games' since the early 1600s including peculiar sports such as 'shin-kicking', most certainly worth lining your holiday up with to experience something so unique. For a dose of famous history, head to the birthplace of William Shakespeare in Stratford-upon-Avon just 12 short miles away, it offers some charming little buildings, bookshops, theatres and museums.
