“Bay House was not for us.”

Just the two of us with 2 dogs, but totally not a comfortable house and totally impractical. I could not imagine 6 adults in this house. Parking was problematic from moment of arrival. No information in the house about the house. Whilst I am sure it was clean, because of the “tiredness and worn out” parts of the house, it did not feel clean. The wooden bannisters and the wooden worktops were all sticky where the lacquer was worn and collecting dirt on the surface. All carpets stained and frayed at the edges. Carpet in the back double bedroom and living room rug stained. Blinds on the attic windows upstairs flapped in the might with windows open. Far too many cushions everywhere. Mattresses worn out and I left with back pain. Hot water too hot. Showers too small, moldy and did not always work on the 38 degree or less safety switch. Hot water was throughout the whole house too hot and without a mixer tap in the bathrooms, very dangerous. The taps in the first double bedroom ensuite didn’t work properly. No washing machine in a house for six you would expect a washer/dryer. The line outside also did not work properly much too small and not strong enough for holding the hand-wash I had to do. The garden is only big gravel and very difficult to walk on. The garden furniture was too big for the garden and had to be constantly covered and uncovered. Not practical. Front room not used because no television and meant we had to sit in the dark living room in the evenings - not ideal on a Summer Holiday. Generally a house which we did not think was well thought through as a holiday let. It needs a complete upgrade and renovation and maybe reduce the number of bedrooms and make one bathroom and one ensuite. All appliances like the fridge which was very old and a big fridge freezer would be better. There was a mini freezer on top of the freezer and a microwave on top of this. Top oven did not work properly. It felt that it needs lots of TLC. Seems that is not a direct let with the owner but through a property manager and this shows in the lack of relevant communication and attention to detail.Definitely not a “ home from home”. Would therefore not recommend.

The property

Set close to the heart of Broadway on the upper end of the High Street, Bay House Cottage is an absolute beauty of a Cotswold Holiday cottage.

Once upon a time, not too long ago, this used to be Broadway's very own exclusive wine and cheese store which kept the well-to-do fed and watered in fine wine and hence why the unique and unmissable bay windows look so attractive.

Today, the owners have restored the entire building, beautifully, to provide spacious accommodation for six people with three ensuite bathrooms - absolutely ideal for families or groups of friends.

The natural colours and hues throughout are a-typical of the area, while the huge sofas and vast dining table give the ground floor a pleasing country feel.

As the house is on the upper side of the High Street, it has the benefit of being very quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of the lower side and yet you're just 200 yards from the nearest pub or cafe!

It's hard not to impressed with this sophisticated holiday home.
