“Old Pump cottage is a delightful cottage, approximately 15 minute stroll into beautiful Ross on Wye.”

Parking isn’t great but it’s possible to pay the nearby hotel to park. Being winter, the gardens were scruffy and the metal fence and gate ( broken latch) were rusty and ready for painting. The A 40 is very close and the traffic noise can be heard from garden but not indoors. The kitchen is very well appointed and maintained and was spotlessly clean, as was the downstairs. There is a great cupboard next to front door for coats and dog leads etc. The bedroom is small but there is plenty of storage. The bathroom is large and there are bath impressive. The bathroom windows are clear glass so a blind is a must, however the wooden Venetian blind , when closed covered the taps and half the wash basin! It was impossible to wash ( or even use the loo) without closing the blind! On the first evening the flame effect stopped working on electric log burner effect fire but we weren’t confident ( or wanting to ) remove the water tank to refill and felt this should have been pre-filled for guests. We didn’t use the fire all week. The sofa has seen better days, it’s clearly been swapped as it wasn’t the smart grey sofa in promotional pic. It has no support and my back suffered, husband and I swapped places but sadly it affected his back too. It wasn’t only furniture swapped from promotional photos, the pretty white bed is now an uglier black metal framed bed, the smart chest of drawers is now an old dark wooden chest and the garden chairs have been swapped for fold ups. Don’t expect the cosy rugs downstairs….. there aren’t any. The Tv isn’t large ( despite description) we struggled to see it , impossible to read words on screen from sofa. Perhaps the most upsetting and unpleasant find, was as we stripped the bed as requested on departure….. seeing the stained mattress as there was no mattress protection. We did enjoy our break in Ross on Wye, we went out early and returned in the evening ….but description of Old Pump House is misleading and misrepresented in promotional photos.
