Newent 3 miles; Ross-on-Wye 9 miles; Gloucester 9 miles.

The scattered hamlet of Glasshouse lies at the foot of May Hill and is surrounded by ancient woodland. In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Glasshouse boasts a charming village pub, dating back to 1891 which has an excellent reputation for serving fine food and ales in a traditional atmosphere. The Wysis Way runs through the hamlet whilst the Gloucestershire Way and Three Choirs Way are also close by. The thriving village of Mitcheldean with its half-timbered houses and narrow streets is a short drive away, as is Newent in the Vale of Leadon, formerly a Roman settlement offering many attractions including a half-timbered 17th century Market Hall, traditional inns, restaurants, numerous tea rooms and pretty individual shops. The magnificent Royal Forest of Dean boasts many trails which can be enjoyed on foot, bicycle or horseback or why not try your hand at fishing, golf, kayaking or caving all of which can be enjoyed in the area. Try the local wine at the Three Choirs Vineyard or visit the waterfront city of Gloucester with its Roman foundations, Victorian docklands and Norman Cathedral. Visit the historic riverside market towns of Ross-on-Wye or Monmouth with their majestic bridges, take a stroll along the River Wye or enjoy the countryside from a hot air balloon. The stunning Brecon Beacon National Park, Cheltenham, Ledbury and the unspoilt Cotswold villages and towns also make a great day out
