The Old Mill Bake House

We had an amazing stay at this holiday cottage!

The cottage was comfortable, cosy, and had everything we needed for a relaxing break. The owners were wonderful — very friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay. The location was fantastic, with beautiful walks right nearby. We especially loved having our own private brook, which was such a lovely and peaceful feature and really made the stay feel special. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and would happily come back again. A beautiful, peaceful place with wonderful owners — highly recommended!

"The Bake House" was a perfect property for an Autumn Break.

Extremely comfortable, warm and we had everything we could possibly need provided. Host were warm and welcoming. Much appreciated welcome pack of homemade cake, eggs, milk and a bottle of wine! Location was ideal for exploring the area with many delightful towns and River walks very near. Off road parking and delightful setting. We would certainly highly recommend this property.

This was perfect place for two people to spend a week.

Cosy. Spotlessly clean. Comfortable with the the equipment needed. Extra bonus for us as mountain bikers to have a secure place to keep the bikes. Lovely personal touches from the owners was the cherry on the cake.

What an amazing find, just what we needed for a peaceful holiday that it surrounded by interesting places to visit.

When we arrived we were greeted by the lovely owners. Upon entering the cottage we found a beautiful cake,milk and their own eggs,also a bottle of wine which were lovely welcome treats. The property was comfortable with everything you need, including a great walk in shower, comfy bed and smart tv. If we are over that way again we would definitely book again.

Our hosts were engaging and welcoming but never intrusive and had provided us with everything we needed including a very generous welcome pack.There is also secure storage for bikes,canoes and fishing tackle,this was very much appreciated. The Old Mill Bake House is a charming property which has been fitted out and equipped to a very high standard.

We found it spotlessly clean. Its location gives good access to local towns, tourist attractions and walks in the Forest of Dean (located approx 150 yards from the River Wye). Trish and Gary were very welcoming and were the perfect hosts.

This is a delightful cottage for two people.

Set in lovely gardens the cottage is cosy and comfortable. The cottage is immaculately clean and the bed extremely comfortable. I would recommend this cottage and also the owners for their attention to every detail.

Booked a break for my parents at this property again as they love staying at the old mill bake house and enjoy the surrounding area’s, my parents feed back was that the hosts were as always welcoming and on hand when needed, I’m sure I will book again soon.

The Bake House is a unique cottage built into the sandstone rock.

It has been renovated to a very high standard and is a pleasure to stay in. The bedroom is huge and so well thought through. It opens onto an elevated outside terrace area and has a superb walk in shower. The owners Trish and Gary have added so many extras the kitchen is so well equipped, the smart Tvs have Sky as well as all the streaming services. Homemade cake, wine, eggs from the owners hens, milk on arrival. The area is in a superb location for walking and lots of places to visit nearby. Outstanding.

Great decor and additional touches, including Christmas decorations, cake and other goodies.. Ideally situated for exploring Herefordshire, The Wye Valley and the Welsh borders. Fabulous place to stay if you love the outdoors. The cottage has an extremely secure outbuilding for kayaks and bikes which also includes washing and drying facilities for muddy or wet clothing and boots. There is also a separate area for washing bikes down. Hosts are friendly and really accommodating, nothing too much trouble.. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others

Everything was spotless and we found all we needed for our self catering break. V. Comfy bed, plenty of storage space ( especially as we brought far too much ,as usual) . V. pleasant decking to enjoy a cuppa or two outside.

This cottage definitely has the WOW factor!

On entering the cottage you can't fail to be stunned by how perfect everything is and the way the cottage has been built incorporating the local geology is impressively amazing! We throughly enjoyed our stay and the location is so convenient for accessing so much to do in the area. The hosts were very friendly and the goodies they left for us was very much appreciated! Although close to the A40 we very quickly zoned it out and it became similar to waves crashing on the beach!! We fully recommend this cottage!

Would be nice if more information on items in the cottage, hairdryer, washing machine and dish washer are included but was not aware of these.

The cottage was perfectly presented, spotlessly clean and furnished comfortably. Superb bathroom and shower. Lovely little veranda off the bedroom with table & chairs for relaxing. They have thought of everything which made our stay that much better. Easy access to local attractions too.

We had a wonderful week, lots of walks planned plus some sightseeing.

Trish and Gary are very helpful and there if needed. Plenty of info on the local area (we have visited before but found the walking info particularly helpful). The walk along Coppett Hill and down to the Wye below Symonds Yat is particularly lovely. Very well equipped, well insulated so cosy and warm. Thank you again. Oh and the cake was delicious.

From arriving to leaving we couldn’t find a single fault with the cottage.

Everything was to a high standard that made for a comfortable stay. The hosts were a delight to meet as was their neighbour. The location is perfect for exploring the nearby river Wye and the forest too. The outdoor seating area was a very welcome place to relax into the evening when the weather permits.

Absolutely superb, no complaints whatsoever.

This property is a real find.

Spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable, tastefully renovated and well equipped. There is a lot of information provided on things to do in the area and the hosts are on hand to answer any queries. There was also a lovely welcome pack with homemade cake, milk and fresh eggs. There is traffic noise due to the location but this is minimal once inside the property and doesn’t interfere with the enjoyment of this unique holiday home.

Very enjoyable stay.

Clean, comfortable and our hosts were lovely. The welcome pack including home made cake, milk and eggs was greatly appreciated. We definitely will be back for a longer stay! Yes there is a main road near by, but this did not affect our enjoyment of this wonderful cottage.

Clean, well-equipped and tastefully decorated. The hosts were very friendly and provided a great welcome pack (including a delicious home-made cake). Well located and a great base for exploring a beautiful part of the world.

We had such a lovely stay in the Bake House.

Everything was absolutely spotless on arrival and the owners property surrounding is kept beautifully. The whole house is finished to a high standard, with everything you need for a comfortable holiday. The kitchen is well equipped, and left with some essentials like fresh milk and eggs. The bathroom has a powerful dual shower which is amazing, especially after a sweaty day's canoeing on the Wye! The bedroom has a huge, very comfortable bed, with ample space to store your belongings. The dressing table is a lovely added bonus. Luckily we had amazing weather to enjoy the sun trap which is the outside decking. Whilst being sheltered from the wind, you get sun throughout the day, and blankets are provided to keep you warm when stargazing in the evening. With it's proximity to the A40 there is some road noise, as warned on the listing, but this quietens down at night (the building itself is well soundproofed so never an issue indoors) and you can always drown it out by listening to the birds in the trees that surround the property. The location of this property is fabulous to jump straight on the A40 to visit nearby Symonds Yat and Ross on Wye, or to drive a little further afield. We would thoroughly recommend this property as a base for adventures around the Wye Valley, or just as a place to get away and relax. Thank you again!

Without a doubt this is the best cottage we have stayed in.

It is ideally situated and provides easy access to the many places of interest in the local and surrounding areas. Spotlessly clean and the owners have been incredibly generous with the facilities they have provided. The welcome pack (including the yummy home-baked cake) was particularly welcome. If you want a lovely place to stay in beautiful surroundings then look no further than The Old Mill Bake House. Highly recommended.

We have just returned from a week’s stay at The Old Mill Bakehouse.

It is the perfect base for exploring the Wye Valley, Forest of Dean and surrounding area. It is ten minutes by car from Goodrich Castle, twenty minutes from Monmouth and you can walk along the river from the property to the nearby village of Whitchurch. The cottage has been restored and furnished to an incredibly high standard. There are so many positives about this property - too many to mention here - it has everything you need for a lovely stay - and more!

"This beautifully restored cottage sits within large grounds opposite the owner’s restored Old Mill, nestled in the quaint village of Goodrich", so says Sykes' blurb.

Unfortunately this property is nearly 2 miles from Goodrich and the owners' landscaping is unfinished bigtime (a couple of skips and mounds of building materials everywhere you look). So it's actually "nestled" between the incredibly noisy A40, the busy B4229 and an industrial estate, specialising in vehicle repairs. Do look at it on Google Earth, not Sykes' map, before booking. "Perfect for a relaxing break" it is not, which is a huge shame, because internally it is excellent, but externally it gets worse. Sykes' commentary continues, "From the cottage there is access to a path which takes you to the waters edge and under the tunnel to a weir which is used to supply the water for the Old Mill and Bake House". As with the Goodrich nestlement, Sykes are once again misrepresenting the true situation. The "tunnel" is the A40 overpass. At least the owner has the decency to put this in her very helpful manual, but Sykes have distorted it, doubtless not wishing to deter visitors with the admission that this property is a stone's throw from a relentlessly noisy dual carriageway. Although we had booked a week, we only spent one night here, during which time we slept a mere couple of hours, all because of the horrifyingly disruptive dual carriageway traffic. In the morning we found ourselves somewhere quieter in Herefordshire, which may come as a further surprise to Sykes, as at time of writing this property is filed by Sykes under "Cotswolds-Gloucester-Goodrich", which is inaccurate on all three counts (the Bake House's nearest village is Whitchurch, not Goodrich, which isn't in Gloucestershire and definitely isn't in the Cotswolds). This is not our first cottage with Sykes, but it's certainly our last. We expect a refund, but, as with so much of Sykes' customer service, this is like pulling teeth.

Despite the inclement weather we couldn’t have chosen a better cottage for a cosy week away in February.

The accommodation is absolutely perfect for a couple, the attention to detail by the thoughtful owners (who are on hand across the drive but unobtrusive) was very much appreciated. The interior is modern, very comfortable and clean but retains character. The facilities provided would be brilliant for cyclists wanting to explore the area, with an attached outbuilding for cleaning, drying and secure storage. We will definitely return and can’t recommend this property highly enough.

Excellent cottage for 2 in a great location on the Wye.

Owners left great starter pack inc homemade cake and wood burner supplies for the week. Very helpful and flexible with checkout as no following guests.

The accommodation lovely, very clean and modern with some great features like the sun deck and the wood burner. The house is in a lovely area very easy to walk to pubs nearby or drive the 1 mile or 2 if you prefer.
