Loverly Quaint Quirky Little Cottage.

Large comfortable bed & sofa, log burner with Beautiful views out of all the windows. Excellent Location for walking to the nearby pubs & shop in stunning hilly countryside. The towns of Stroud & Nailsworth are easily walkable along a level disused railway line down in the bottom of the valley with a clear running water stream within woodland & a firm tarmac path. Minchinhampton Common & Village are a must visit & so is nearby Tetbury. Perfect location for visiting Bath, Bristol, Gloucester, Cirencester & the Cotswolds in general.

Really happy returning to have a long weekend break at this cosy and peaceful walkers cottage.

A breath of fresh air and our third stay there. Enjoyed sitting in the courtyard in the spring sunshine and visiting the adjacent market towns. When we got home kind owner even messaged to check to see if the sunshades found at the cottage were ours as they were going to post them on to us.

This is our second visit to this cottage popular with walkers; we had an autumn break in the area too and enjoyed it so much we came for a return visit.

Really lovely touches with milk and biscuits from the caring owners who checked everything was ok shortly after our arrival. The cottage is so cosy, clean and well-appointed. The living room furnishings have been updated since our previous stay. We enjoyed amazing walks in the area and walked to purchase essentials from the village community shop in Amberley. Very friendly peaceful area for relaxing break. Hope to return in the future.

We really enjoyed staying at Athelstan Cottage.

The listing did warn of the steep stairs. They were certainly steep, but we got used to this. We loved the views - from the living room and for the bedroom. It was a bit of a walk to unload on arrival and to load on departure - as there is no parking next to the cottage - but it was worth it to stay here. We would come again!

Really cosy traditional walkers cottage perched on hillside with great views and great walks nearby.

Sunny courtyard for afternoon sunshine and we enjoyed 4 consecutive days of afternoon sunshine out of the 6. Yes we loved it's traditional features and practical functionality/aspect great too for the dog in your life. Plus with the beautiful landscape you feel you're in a real rural Idyll. You even look over to slopes of local vineyard a 45 mins walk approx which does interesting tours and tasting events. Nice hospitality touches with milk in fridge and Foxes biscuits from friendly host. We hope to do another break at cottage next year.

The property is very run down with poor decor showing signs of dampness on the walls.

The furniture was ripped and the cottage was dusty. The shower was dirty and needs replacing. This propery needs updating.

Very cozy and charming cottage , the house have everything you need, the landlady is nice and helpful but the house needs attention is clean but dusty is everywhere.

I really enjoyed my stay at the property,a very quirky cozy cottage, with wonderful views from all windows, lovely walks directly from the door, the stairs at the property are definitely challenging and not recommended for anyone with mobility problems, but apart from that a lovely character cottage

The holiday was in a lovely location however it was marred by a dirty holiday cottage.

Health and safety issues. We have photos to corroborate the bad time we had. Kitchen and bathroom infested by bugs at night not helped by broken toilet window stuck in the open position. No Wi-Fi so could not phone anyone. Not even to complain. Will not be staying here again. No where to dump rubbish as no bins available a pretty poor show. I would love to know who comes to the cottage to make sure everything passes muster? We have photos of most errors we found.

A lovely cottage in a lovely village.

The only difficulty I had was being able to find a pen in order to write nice things in the visitors book! I had to give up in the end. Really well equipped, very comfortable and cosy. Recommend taking 'grippy socks/slippers' for the wooden stairs to the bedroom and older dogs might find the staircase to the lounge a bit tricky. Fantastic views over the valley and some great walks on footpaths from more or less outside the gate. A small, enclosed courtyard was perfect for my small spaniel but a larger dog would probably find it easy to escape and go wandering. Highly recommended as a cosy place to stay.

This cottage is very quirky and a lovely place to stay.

We enjoyed exploring the area and it was great having a pub within walking distance. Good selection of DVDs/books and information about the area provided. Nice to have the basics provided in the kitchen e.g. milk and tea bags Comfort was poor on the basis that the bed creaked loudly when you moved and the blind in the velux over the bed would randomly fly open during the night. A bit more regular maintenance including checking TV remote batteries are working would be ideal.

It's a lovely quirky cottage.

It probably wouldn't be easy to live in full-time, which made us feel better about having it for a holiday! Pretty well-equipped, maybe could do with another saucepan with lid for those who cook most days. Felt very well looked after and the flowers, milk and biscuits made us feel welcome.

The staircase to the bed room was an issue as there was no balcony at the top and the foot of the bed was close to the edge if you missed your footing or got up in the dark there was nothing to stop you falling the sheer drop to the bottom which would proberbly cause serious injury every thin else was fine

Comfortable cottage full of character in a truly wonderful location which acted as a good base while I was working in the area.

Unfortunately cleanliness was an issue - old cobwebs, woodlouse bodies, and general grubbiness let the property down. A real shame as with a deep clean and maybe a bit of updating of facilities this could be a really special property!

Athelstan Cottage provided us with everything two of us needed for quite a long stay.

The cottage itself is delightful, cosy and comfortable and in a superb location for walks in all directions and breathtaking views. We had a memorable stay and enjoyed sunsets, Jackdaws, cows and even the woodlice.

Lovely cottage.

The owner has a good attitude and was very accommodating - very much appreciated! The area the cottage is set in is simply outstanding and makes an ideal base to explore the beautiful and interesting local area. As stated in the online cottage description this property is definitely NOT for those with mobility issues or the elderly infirm due to the staircases, also aging dogs may have problems with the staircases. But then what can be expected with a 300 year old (?) cottage. Some may say certain aspects of the cottage are a little worn and tired but what can be expected from a dog friendly property. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves even in the height of the heatwave. Bearing in mind the issues I have highlighted if you can cope with the stairs highly recommended as a base for walking, sightseeing and exploring ect. A quirky property in a peaceful setting.

We really have enjoyed our stay!

This cottage is in a very pretty place with spectacular views and walks on the doorstep and an enclosed front garden area.

Ideal for dogs with their owners. There are two flights of very steep steps indoors and the cottage itself is at the top of a very steep hill.

A helpful host and the cottage is in a beautiful place with amazing views but the cottage kitchen is so small and each floor has extremely steep steps.

Also the furniture is a little tired and could do with a good overhaul this along with the downstairs bathroom means I would not consider staying here again.

The cottage is very cute, functional but could do with some updating.

The host was very kind and friendly. Fabulous views and location. good value.

The proerty property does unfortunately suffer from bugs on the ground floor, although that didn't worry us unduly.

The only other things to be careful of are the roof beams in the bedroom. Keep your head well down! Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay and the views up there were fantastic!

The views from the cottage were amazing. Some of the kitchen equipment needs updating. Other than that we had a wonderful time.

Nice and relaxing, great area and nice neighbourhood.

Beautiful cottage, (steep winding staircases, so not good if you struggle slightly on stairs) two dog friendly pubs within walking distance, (take a torch for night walks if you’ve got a dog) lots of pretty lanes to walk along with the dog (cows freely grazing the grassy banks and hills between May-Oct) and lovely places to drive to that are all within an hours drive.

We’ll definitely be back in future.

Andrea was quick to come around on our arrival when we has unsure how to operate the heating.

Was in no rush to leave until we was happy about where everything was. A lovely lady and a lovely cottage with great views over the valley.

We had a fantastic time at the cottage, a nice welcome pack and very helpful and friendly neighbours.

The inquisitive cows were very entertaining, a lovely part of the world with very friendly people.

You mention the steepness of the stairs, but you might also mention that the road up is very challenging (first gear for much of the final approach, and very narrow and twisting).

I had a wonderful short stay in Athelstan Cottage.

The surrounding area is beautiful and perfect for walks, and the cottage was very cosy and comfortable with lovely views of the area.

Very comfortable and homely cottage in a beautiful location.

When we arrived we found everything we could need supplied, even lovely biscuits on the table. It is very compact and the bedroom may be difficult for tall people but was perfect for us. Genuinely enjoyed our weekend
