“We loved our stay at 4 The Old Council House.”

It was one of the nicest properties we have stayed in. To say the property was in the middle of town we were pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was. We were handy for all the supermarkets, shops, pubs and eateries. We enjoyed walks along the riverside and around the town and visited Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick Castle, Hidcote, Upton House and Charlecote Park. We will be back again.

It was one of the nicest properties we have stayed in. To say the property was in the middle of town we were pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was. We were handy for all the supermarkets, shops, pubs and eateries. “This is a very nice property.”

It is in a very pleasant central location. It has all the facilities that most people would need. There is a very nice Italian restaurant a few minutes walk way. However, previous reviews have suggested the settees are somewhat low, and this is indeed the case. We were stopping during the heatwave in July, and the pedestal fans that were provided were much appreciated.

However it is in need of some TLC. Small but nonetheless bothersome issues like blinds not working, windows not opening, bedroom door not closing & bath damaged - it wouldn’t take much to fix these. We would stay again

“A nice property in the centre of Shipton.”

Very spacious and comfortable and easy to get to nearby attractions. Well equipped, although unfortunately the digital display on the oven was in Italian!! There wasn't a user manual and we couldn't figure out how to switch it to English but we managed to cook in it .

“Whilst the property is extremely clean, spacious, well equipped and bed was very comfortable, there were a number of things that caused us (a couple in our seventies) some problems.”

There are 19 stairs to reach the upstairs. The 2 sofas in the lounge are way too low. Traffic noise immediately outside the lounge and kitchen is relentless between 7am and 10pm. The neighbour's big white van parked adjacent makes getting in and out of your own car quite difficult. I think these issues should be pointed out in the property listing as they make things difficult for older people.

I am sorry you had some issues, however this is very clearly a two story property so not sure what else we could put in the listing regarding this. Our sofas are fairly standard I think and we have never had issues with traffic noise - it is hard to be this close to the town centre without some noise and the property is double glazed. “Another great stay at 4 The Old Council House.”

We stayed back in the summer and we loved it. So we decided to book again for Christmas to get us in the festive spirit. They even popped up a few Christmas decorations, including a little Christmas tree in the living room which was a nice touch. A great place to just unwind and enjoy the Cotswolds. I’m sure we’ll be back again sometime soon.

“This property was a very good standard and excellent location.”

It would have been good to have a clock in the lounge. We had a mishap with one of the dining chairs, it totally collapsed and broke into lots of pieces whilst sitting on it.Luckily my wife was uninjured but bruised.The sofas are too low otherwise everything was very comfortable.I highly recommend this holiday let.

“Well, what a last minute find!”

We’d never been to Shipston-on-Stour before and took a chance on 4, The Old Council House. Our main worry was that due to its close proximity to the centre of Shipston, it would be a noisy stay, and instead we were aiming for something more remote and peaceful. We are so glad we took a chance, as the property was lovely, and surprisingly super quiet. Looking at the thickness of the walls, this obviously explains why it must be so quiet. In fact, the courtyard (which is a sun trap from midday in the summer) was also equally quiet. Inside the house, there was plenty of space for the 3 of us. We especially loved the lounge which the big shabby chic style sofas, and the beds were super comfy too. We are very familiar with the Cotswolds but Shipston-on-Stour was a delight. Some lovely shops, including a fabulous deli. We enjoyed a hearty lunch at the Horseshoe and a lovely Sunday roast at the George hotel. Thank you for a very relaxing stay. We’re already taking about a future visit!

“This is an excellent property in the heart of the small town with everything within walking distance - well-stocked shops of all kinds including a surprisingly good gents' outfitter, a shoe shop, an amazing ironmonger and a good delicatessen.”

Also several good places for coffee / meals. We worried that traffic noise would disturb us, but in the event it didn't - secondary glazing helped to muffle the sound. Admittedly we didn't have any windows adjacent to the road open - in the heat of summer it could be quite a different experience. One thing did concern us: a previous guest had left a pair of expensive looking Gucci sunglasses on the wall by the gate and there did not seem to be any contact details for the owner of the property or their managing agent. The glasses were left there all week, and so we decided the safest thing was to take them indoors and leave them on the kitchen table with a note for the cleaner (or whoever???). Someone must surely have noticed their loss? Otherwise a good experience. Ian and Elizabeth Pearson

Clean and comfortable. Great location to explore the Cotswolds - Many National Trust properties within 30 mins. Shipston on Stoke is a pretty old-fashioned English town with lots of coffee shops and restaurants and takeaways. Couldn't ask for more. A fab place for a holiday or weekend away.

“This is the best equipped cottage we’ve ever stayed in.”

From a blender to a pastry brush, there’s everything you could possibly think of in the kitchen. The photos do not do this stay justice at all. The rooms are massive, the furniture and doors are too making it look regular sized! We cannot fault a single thing. Perfectly situated for the village (definitely head to Mrs Browns for a cream tea!) and about 20 minute drive from every key location in the surrounding area.

“The holiday home is in a lovely town with lots of eateries on the doorstep.”

However, we found the traffic noise quite intrusive on an evening. Areas of improvement for the holiday home would be the addition of a mirror in the 2nd bedroom, currently there is nowhere to dry hair, apply makeup etc. The shower cubicle in master bedroom is in need of a deep steam clean. The grout and silicone sealant are black with mould. My husband slept in the twin room and complained that the mattress was very thin and uncomfortable, more suitable for a child than an adult.

Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate it. I am sorry you found the property noisey, usually people comment on how quiet it is considering the location in the centre of town! I will look at adding a mirror to the 2nd bedroom, however there is a full length mirror on the landing and also there are 3 bathrooms, all with mirrors for applying make-up - I prefer people to use the bathrooms for this purpose to prevent makeup on bed linen etc. The grout in the bathroom is discoloured however it is not mouldy or dirty. You are the first people to complain about the mattresses - others, and my own family have found the beds very comfortable - we have set the house up aimed at a family with a Queen and twin beds however all beds have good quality mattresses quite suitable for adults. “Comfortable, spacious, well equipped, and clean.”

Excellent location in the centre of town where there are numerous good restaurants, pubs and shops. We found a couple of things which needed attention so left a note for the housekeeping staff but these did not affect our enjoyment of the property too much. Would recommend, and would book again if we wanted to explore the Cotswolds further. A very pleasant stay.

It was clean and well equipped and had everything we needed for our stay. It was very conveniently situated at the centre of town with shops and eating places, yet was peacefully insulated against traffic noise. The property was surprisingly quiet considering its location in the town, and nice to have its own car parking space. Shipston is an interesting small town with plenty of individual shops, and is in a very central position for visiting the Cotswolds, South Warwickshire, Gardens/ Country Houses etc. A comfortable and high standard property.
