Look at bit closer and it wasn’t so great. The cleanliness was the worst we have been to at a Sykes property. There were hairs around the taps, floor and shower in the bathroom. There was a sticker on the tap in the bath “not in use” so even though the property had a bath, you were not allowed to use it. You were not allowed to change the heating, again, another sticker saying “do not touch” my elderly mother was cold in the evening and had to sit with a blanket and duvet around her. The microwave was dirty inside, the saucepans were not clean from the previous people and the kitchen cupboard door under the sink wouldn’t close as it was hanging off. Did I contact the owners at the time? No as all the negative stickers around left is feeling we wouldn’t get a good response. We were only staying 3 nights so we made good of a bad experience. We did however give the owners 30 days to respond which they did….negatively hence the honest review. I sent all the photos to the owner. A few dog hairs I could accept, but the pubic hairs around the shower…… no.
From SYKES; Thank you for your comments. The owner informs guests to contact him regards heating requirements rather than change setting themselves due to the unique sensitive heating. The bath is designed soley as the shower tray due to existing waste levels and all clearly explained in the property information to which we are sorry you didnt take the time to read. Sykes received evidence the heating was set to 23 degrees, but we are very sorry you didnt contact us if this was not suiable to you, as the owner is always available for guests who need extra help, as can be seen by other guest reviews. Sykes provides the owners contact that is sent out to guests pre arrival but regrettably no telephone contact was made to the owner or Sykes by you after you had arrived. The kitchen door and plinth had been temporarily repaired. The housekeeper does take pictures of the cleanliness of the property on changeovers for the owner which have been provided to us, but we thank you for the pictures you took at the end of your stay and that you had provided to us after your stay. The pan showed no debris as had been placed in the dishwasher and since been wiped clean is now fine along with the microwave that had potentially been miss used. The owner has reviewed the housekeeping regarding all your comment and about hair, although no human hair of that particular type has been identified in the pictures taken on the day of your arrival. A full review of all pictures were undertaken by the Sykes property housekeeping team as well as by the owner. Sykes acknowledge that you contacted us after your stay, regrettably there was a delay in Sykes contacting the owner and we apologise. Sykes has reached out to guests separately on this, but want to clarify we did not contact the owner and he was not aware of any concerns you had during your stay and some time after, as he would of course assisted you immediately if you had called him during your stay.
