The Granary

Lovely cottage situated in perfect location with a short drive to Ross on Wye, Goodrich castle, Symonds yat and Puzzlewood .

Very clean and had everything needed for a short stay. Perfect size for 2 people and the owner allowed us to bring our 2 dogs. As described steep ladder to bedroom but this didn’t pose a problem. A small enclosed garden had been created around the cottage which was perfect for our dogs. If I had to suggest one thing it would be put a blind up or window covering in the bathroom.

The property was clean and tidy with a large rear garden which our dog loved.

Our only issue with the property was the access to the bedroom, which is via a wooden (ladder‑type) staircase. Although this is highlighted within the property details, there is no actual photograph of the stairs, so it’s difficult to appreciate how steep they are until you get into the property. Due to this, we were only able to stay the one night. Several photos of the stairs would be useful to add to the property details.

My only comment is agreeing with others that the steep stairs/ladder to the bedroom might not be suitable for anyone with mobility problems, but this is well highlighted in the property description. It's an ideal base for walking. You can walk straight from the property on to The Wye Valley Way and a nearby bus-stop gives access to Monmouth and the Offa's Dyke Path, Forest of Dean etc. We walked all week and didn't have need to use the car. The friendly owners are on hand if needed and very accommodating.

A comfortable bright cottage, well equipped, clean and well maintained.

It is in a delightful spot with views over the countryside from the lounge area. An ideal location for discovering more of thr area.

The Granary is located in a quiet rural location that is also an excellent centre for visiting the Symonds Yat area.

The cottage is very well equipped and has lovely views over the countryside. The stairs to the bedroom are very steep and may not be suitable for anyone with mobility problems; however, they were no obstacle to this eighty-plus explorer. Highly recommended.

Super location and a lovely cottage.

Only downside is the stairs to the bedroom. They are steep and not easy to use when going up or down, especially with bags. The stairs are not suitable for those with walking difficulties or fitness problems.

We had a lovely stay in this very charming property!

We were greeted as we arrived, which I did not expect at all as we arrived late evening and shown into the Granary. Ample facilities and space, and very cosy on a winters evening. Views from the property are stunning and you can step straight out onto public footpaths that can take you miles. We highly recommend! Thank you for a lovely stay :)

Lovely little place in a decent location, not too close to town and not too far if needed!

We were very pleasantly surprised by how spacious the cottage was, I don't feel that the current photos in the listing give a proper impression of this.

The cottage includes a very comfortable living/dining area along with a well-equipped kitchen and characterful bedroom. The enclosed private garden was a big asset to the property and, overall, we found everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Yes, the stairs are steep and would certainly be a problem for anyone with mobility issues but, at 66 and 76, we found no difficulty. My tip for other guests - pack several smaller bags instead of one large one! The location is excellent, within easy reach of Ross on Wye and many visitor attractions and a very friendly local pub, serving great food, is just around the corner. Together with friendly and helpful owners on site, this had everything we look for in a holiday cottage.

Landlady was kind and supplied us with everything we could need! Upon reading previous reviews I can confirm the WiFi issue has been resolved but sadly the woodlice and steep climb to the bedroom hasn’t. Me and my partner enjoyed our stay

We had a fantastic holiday, weather was very hot, a lovely clean cottage in a great location.

The local pub is great, great beer and delicious food, well reccomended. So much to do around the area. Thank you.

Very relaxing. Great location with lots of things to do/walks within a reasonable distance. Lottie (the dog) loved it there watching all the wildlife! Very enjoyable stay.

Fabulous accommodation, beautiful location.

Really enjoyed our stay over new year with our dog.

Area is nice to explore on foot or drive further afield to see historical sights. Briefly met our hosts who seem nice. The cottage itself is very nice and attached to the main home. Very clean and well presented. The small Xmas tree, lights and Xmas cushions were a lovely touch. Sitting in the conservatory is so peaceful and comfortable. Kitchen has all you need for staying in to cook, just remember to bring any oils, etc. The bed was very comfortable, but for some reason the duvet felt narrow for 2 of us. The bathroom is compact, with everything you need, but the shower lacks a bit in power. NOTE: As much as the steep ladder-like stairs were mentioned on the listing, I didn’t take on board just how steep. My fault, but anyone with mobility issues of any kind (or even fear of heights) should not book this cottage. I was a bit of an effort with my bad back and leg! Also if staying on your own it could be awkward to get any bags up too.

Cosy property to enjoy the area around or stay indoors with a cup of tea and a book. Don’t mind to stay more days next time.

I think the stairs going up to the only bedroom should be empathised as unsuitable for a person who is not agile, and described as a 'ladder'. The kitchen and livingroom are very comfortable and we enjoyed our stay, and they are dog friendly too

Great cottage in a great location.

We loved it - loads of nearby walks in really beautiful countryside. Saw lots of birds even in the back garden! Cottage had nice extras like tea towels, kitchen clothes, tea, coffee, salt pepper and good loo roll. Lovely hosts with friendly cats and a small lovely dog. Worth the drive and the money. Would stay again.

The owners were on site but once we had been shown inside, we were left to enjoy our holiday.

(We had a holiday last year where the owners were quite intrusive...). The facilities were very good and everything we needed. We were aware of the steep stairs to the bedroom and had to make sure not to drink anything too late to need to come down to the bathroom in the night! Definitely need to be fairly agile to manage them! A relaxing stay in beautiful countryside.

The location of the cottage gave easy access to Ross, and also Hereford,Ledbury and Monmouth being only a short journey away.We had everything we needed at The Granary and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.

We had a lovely stay beautiful place beautiful views and so peaceful.

On the down side the Granary needs to be listed under the house name of Brooke House as otherwise you have no way of finding it. The other issue is that in the information about The Granary you need to inform people that the owners have had to install flood defences which means there is quite a drop between the houses drive and the road and if you have a car with low ground clearance it is very difficult to get off the drive we damage the underside of our car everytime we went out.

I would happily have given 4 stars if there had not been issues with the Wifi but I depended on a connection and it was very unreliable.

I did let the owners know this early on but they were unable to remedy the very intermittent nature of the connection and wifi availability. Otherwise, I did enjoy my stay, the area is lovely, the accommodation clean and comfortable. The bathroom floor might benefit from some resealing around the edges as woodlice are quite prevalent in there at night, they are harmless - it's just about avoiding squishing them!

Absolutely fantastic stay, nothing was too much trouble.

The furnishings were luxurious from the sofa down to the bed sheets. We felt like children climbing up into our very own tree house when going to bed. We needed nothing. Well the only thing we did need was more time to stay. We will definitely be re booking.

A very peaceful place to relax and loved watching the wildlife. Great walks from the door and so many places to visit which we will do next time. A very comfortable stay and we will return.

We loved our stay at The Granary, beautiful space with tonnes of natural light.

Lovely garden for the dog to freely run. Easy parking. The hosts were incredible and have nothing but praises for them. Ideal location for walking out of the door onto local walks and nearby to Forest of Dean and symands yat. Facilities were plentiful and during 2 frosts the building was plenty warm for our 19 month daughter. Ladder to upstairs was unique and added to the experience, I was able to scale whilst carrying my daughter.

Location perfect, setting lovely. Property itself was everything we could have wanted and more. Clean, well presented and all utensils etc required provided. Lots of maps and guidebooks for walks. Access to the bedroom is, as promised via a novel ladder/staircase - so much fitter by the end of the stay, albeit only 3 days

Loved our stay here.

Lovely secluded location with lovely panoramic views. Enjoyed the company of the owners cats and the wildlife in the surrounding area. Great to watch the farmers at work with their harvesting and bale making. Interesting route via Church Pitch one night. Good job it was late at night

The Granary is a lovely little property.

It's kitted out with all that is needed. The location is superb. Loved it.

This was our 3rd stay at the Granary ( since the great lockdown of 2020/21 ended)——you do not return without good reason!

Would like to come back for number 4 should circumstances allow!

Even though it was the hottest week of the year, we had a fabulous stay at The Granary.

We'd been warned about the steep stairs (ladder) to the bedroom so these were not a shock to us. The efficient fan was very welcome in view of the heat. Very well equipped cottage, hands-off hosts but there if you need them, and a glorious location. Only thing I'd say is that the fence round the garden is a bit low if you have a dog that can jump high!

Top quality location, house, garden and furnishings.

Nothing to complain about. Ladder to bedroom would be difficult for less agile but we didn't have a problem and it stopped the dog getting upstairs. Beautiful views and birds in garden to watch. Near Wales, Forest of Dean and River Wye, so lots of scope for outdoor activities. Conservatory/living room is the focal point of the house, so relaxing to watch the sun go down whilst sat on the sofa.

A friendly and helpful couple who owned the cottage and ideal for dogs with lovely countryside and walks as very close to the Wye Valley Way.

Both properties we hired on this holiday were perfect.

The system of booking was excellent however the help received over the phone was poor. I felt that this wasn't a service Sykes were interested in providing.

This is a charming cottage, beautifully decorated, with excellent facilities and a well equipped kitchen.

Comfortable bed and sofas. The kitchen is well thought out with everything you need to cook all types of meals, including a full sized oven and good fridge. Lounge has large glass windows so you can watch the local wildlife from the comfort of your chair.

Lovely Cottage, much larger than we were expecting and I would say roomy for 2 people.

This is a super cottage and so peacful, the sunroom lounge is such a lovely qualty and a wonderful place to sit day or night when the stars are amazing. Attached to the owners home you really wouldn't have known it, apart from the friendly welcome on arrival. We had everything we needed, plenty of storage everywhere and space for walking boots, coats etc.The quality of furniture is excellent and the hard floors throughout downstairs means they are nice and clean too. Good location with plenty of places to visit and walk inc nice off road walks from the door. To be super fussy maybe the bathroom could do with a fresh paint and new flooring, especially as the shower & tiles look brand new. Will definately be returning. Good value and I can't imagine why its not 4 ticks unless it's the steps to the bedroom that are knocking it down? but actually we liked these and just added to the charm of the place.

This is a great cottage in a beautiful location.

It is perfect for a couple and we loved it. We already knew so it was not a surprise but be aware that the stairway/ladder to the bedroom is fairly sleep. Need to be reasonably agile!!

Great dog walks, and plenty of wildlife to observe. Ideal location for eating out, and visiting, Hereford, Ross-on-Wye etc.

The kitchen, bathroom and conservatory was lovely.

Clean bright and well equipped. We knew the stairs would be a bit steep,however if we had known it was a ladder type up to the bedroom I wouldn’t have booked the property.

Hosts were very helpful and friendly. However we would say that the photo and description of the property does not inform you that the property is attached to the side of a large house occupied by the owners. Therefore you are very overlooked.

We had a wonderful break at the Granary.

We met the owner on arrival, who was very helpful and pointed out some good information about the local area. We could walk our dog from the cottage up the lane and straight onto the Wye Valley walk. The cottage was ideally situated between Ross-on-Wye and the Forest of Dean, so we had the best of both worlds.
