“Our stay at Court House Cottage was excellent.”

Nigel and Marie were fantastic hosts and introduced themselves when we arrived. The neighbours were very friendly too. They were extremely informative and gave us great recommendations on places to visit and eat in the local area. The cottage has two bedrooms: one double room and one twin room, with the single beds able to be pushed together to make another double if needed. There were toys for younger children, games to play, and a good selection of books available if you don't bring your ...

Nigel and Marie were fantastic hosts and introduced themselves when we arrived. The neighbours were very friendly too. They were extremely informative and gave us great recommendations on places to visit and eat in the local area. The cottage has two bedrooms: one double room and one twin room, with the single beds able to be pushed together to make another double if needed. There were toys for younger children, games to play, and a good selection of books available if you don't bring your own. The enclosed garden was perfect for our dogs, giving us peace of mind that they couldn't escape. Nigel informed us in advance about a planned power cut by the electricity company on the Monday after our arrival and kindly provided ice packs to help keep the fridge and freezer cold while the power was off. Marie also gave us two pairs of solar eclipse glasses, which was a thoughtful touch. During our stay, we were lucky enough to see some shooting stars as well. We took the dogs on several walks in the Forest of Dean, where there are plenty of beautiful routes and places to explore. We also spent a day in Monmouth, Wales, which is less than an hour's drive away. We enjoyed several lovely meals out during our stay too. Overall, we had a wonderful time and would not hesitate to stay here again. Highly recommended. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“We had a lovely weeks stay with our dog Maisie.”

The cottage is so clean and cosy. A wonderful location and very peaceful. The Forest of Dean is a beautiful part of the country. Hosts Nigel and Marie are lovely and introduced themselves. They live next door and nothing was too much trouble, you do have to drive everywhere and not a pub in walking distance but everything is only a short drive away. Gloucester Docks worth a visit which is about a 40 min drive and recommend Mallards pike which we visited twice. Lovely and shaded for dogs and has a dog swimming area which our Staffie loved. Would visit again. Also recommend the White Hart pub. Lovely food. This holiday was booked by my father and mother in law as a 25th wedding anniversary present and couldn’t have wished for better. A perfect stay

Great location - It is in a small hamlet so the quiet environment is just what we like, easy drive to things you need and the Forest of Dean has great walking. Great cottage - fully equipped with everything you need and beautifully and usefully done, absolutely loved the place. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback — we're really pleased you found the cottage lovely, peaceful, and well equipped, and that you felt looked after during your stay. Sorry it felt a little cool on arrival. The cottage was running at around 20°C, which can feel chilly if you're not expecting it, especially in June! My partner was away that day, so wasn't able to set the central heating for you himself (it's not the most intuitive system, even for us), but he did offer to sort it out as soon as he was back. In the meantime, we have a portable oil radiator there permanently, which heats the space well thanks to the insulation, (which also helps in the hot weather!) and we were happy to bring over a second one along with extra logs for the log-burner. On location — we know preferences vary, but while we're tucked into a small, peaceful hamlet, Blakeney village is just over a mile away (about 5 minutes by car), so amenities are never far. Thanks again for staying with us — we hope you'd consider us again, with the heating sorted from the start! Property Owner

Thanks for your review — it's genuinely helpful. We do keep three spare toilet rolls in the bathroom drawer as standard. We've now added a note in the Welcome Book to point guests to where they're kept. We do already include a few extra touches for guests (chocolates, biscuits, a log basket for the fire, etc. alongside the usual tea/coffee essentials), and we'll keep thinking about how to add a few more nice touches in future. We've avoided fresh flowers and cake mainly due to allergy considerations. Thanks again for staying with us, and for the honest feedback. Property Owner

“The cottage is situated in a beautiful area with plenty of birds and wildlife.”

It is very peaceful with magnificent views from the top of a woodland walk accessed opposite the property. Speaking as former self-catering owners we were very impressed with the high standard of furnishings and fittings. We would just say that a few minor additions would make the cottage even better, such as the inclusion of kitchen roll, foil and a hand-towel in the kitchen and a shaver point in the bathroom would be an advantage. We also noticed a pungent smell of drains whilst having our coffee outside, presumably from the septic tank, but these are minor details which did not really detract from the enjoyment of our break.

As for the smell you mentioned, we got onto it straight away. We traced it to a drain from a water downpipe which was partially blocked, which we have now unblocked. “We were 2 couples and 2 dogs, and our stay at Court House Cottage was lovely!”

We spent our Easter holiday here, and it was a peaceful and wonderful stay. We arrived quite late on the Thursday night, and got a little lost finding the cottage, but a quick phone call to Nigel sorted that out! The cottage itself was really clean and spacious. We needed the twin room beds to be changed into a superking via ziplink (at an additional cost) and we couldn't feel the ziplink at all! The beds were incredibly comfortable - it gave us all the restful break we needed. The kitchen, bathroom, and living area were appropriately stocked, with clear instructions on how to use everything. Be wary of the active train tracks with passing trains nearby, however they didn't bother us at all, even during the night as we couldnt hear or feel them. The lovely garden is enclosed (as long as your dogs dont jump the walls!) and full of wonderful plants to enjoy. Nigel and Marie popped their heads over to say hello, as they live next door and it was a pleasure to meet them. They gave us lots of great reccomendations for walks, resturants, pubs, and dog friendly things to do nearby, all within a short drive away. Thanks again to Nigel and Marie, we had a wonderfully peaceful stay and will be back!

“A lovely little cottage in a tiny hamlet very close to the estuary but not too far from local shop by car.”

Great location for exploring the Wye Valley, Forest of Dean areas and the Cotswolds. Note - there is a train line that runs close to the cottage and trains do pass fairly regularly and into the night. The cottage was very clean and comfortable and well equipped, comfy cosy lounge with woodburner and a great smart TV. The cottage could do with a few extra basic items - a cafetière or coffee machine, small water/juice glasses, larger wine glasses. The beds and bathroom were very comfortable (bath towels were rather small - bath sheets would be better). All in all a great place to stay for a weekend break.

We would like to add that the train line is about 200 yards from the cottage, it is the furthest away property in the hamlet. “The best cottage we’ve ever stayed in.”

Beautifully appointed, with quality and style. The cottage and the area is steeped in history which is well documented in the cottages information booklet. We, a couple with two cockapoos really enjoyed our stay. There were a few walks directly from the cottage, unfortunately due to work on the paths which were in full swing so unfortunately they were closed for us. But the cottage is well placed to reach all the walks in the Forest, only about 15 minutes away. The harbour at Lidney is another place full of history and well worth a visit and a walk. Would highly recommend.

Thank you for your comments. The sofa is indeed a 3-seater, but there is an armchair. Sorry if you found the boiler in the airing cupboard a little intrusive, other guests have not had an issue with it. We chose an electric boiler, partly to avoid any oil smells and minimise noise. Property Owner

“Our hosts were lovely and extremely friendly and welcoming.”

The cottage was well equipped and very comfortable. It was a shame that local footpaths were overgrown or closed for maintenance work. We still had a lovely time and visited many local places where we had great fun.

“Beautiful location.”

Very peaceful. Kitchen adequately equipped. Living room & beds v comfortable. Only minor niggle was poor selection of glasses. Small tumblers for spirit drinkers would be appreciated. Much enjoyed our stay and would definitely return .

“Court house cottage is a very well presented holiday venue.”

We found it to be very comfortable and well equipped and suited our every need. As we were well prepared to self cater (we had two dogs with us, and find it easier to eat at our venues) the kitchen was a pleasure to use and we didn't seek out local pubs or restaurants but we did pass quite a few within a 10- 20 minute drive. The garden area is secure if you have dogs or children, and the weather was very hot during our stay but we had shade during the afternoon. Be prepared for some passing trains about 300m away and apart from that we had a very peaceful a relaxing break. Nigel, the owner, introduced himself on arrival and pointed out a few things locally and was a pleasure to chat to. All in all we found Court House cottage to be excellent !

“We had a lovely time in this property, Nigel and his neighbours were very helpful with directions, about the area, and where to go for days out.”

It is in a quiet area and you do need the car to get out and about, not far from the forest of Dean. The cottage is beautifully maintained, the beds are very comfortable, everything that you need for a great holiday. If you want peace and tranquility, this is the place. We will definitely be booking again.

The ancient village of Blakeney lies on the southeast edge of the Royal Forest of Dean and was once a site of a Roman Villa dating back to 75AD. Equidistant to Gloucester and Monmouth, the village boasts many 16th and 17th century buildings, with a charming 16th century coaching inn, and also offers a good selection of amenities including a fish and chip shop, village store and Post Office, as well as numerous walks and cycle routes. The magnificent Royal Forest of Dean, England's largest oak forest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, boasts numerous trails that can be explored on foot, by bike or horseback. Caving, abseiling and a high wire rope course can be enjoyed by the more adventurous, whilst fishing, golf, kayaking and canoeing are other popular activities available in this unspoilt area. In the Forest of Dean lies Puzzlewood, a magical ancient woodland attraction for all ages and used as a famous filming location in Dr Who and Star Wars. The eerie caverns and ancient caves of Clearwell are close by, as are the Gloucestershire Way and Offa's Dyke Path for wonderful walks. Close by, Symonds Yat boasts natural scenery and straddles the beautiful River Wye with its magnificent limestone rock, popular with climbers, and well known for its viewpoint. Visit the historic town of Monmouth, which offers a fusion of elegant Georgian mansions and Victorian courtyards, or the lovely town of Ross-on-Wye with its timbered Tudor houses and delightful riverside walks, both home to excellent shops, pubs and restaurants. The unspoilt Malvern Hills, Brecon Beacon National Park and Black Mountains, as well as lovely Cotswold towns and villages are just a little further afield.
