“We were extremely happy with the standard of the accommodation when we arrived at the cottage.”

The owner lives adjacent to the cottage and came and greeted us with some very helpful advice about the area. The cottage is truly a home away from home with everything you need for your stay. The cleanliness was faultless. We would highly recommend a visit to Gatcombe and a stay in Court House Cottage.

“A lovely little cottage in a tiny hamlet very close to the estuary but not too far from local shop by car.”

Great location for exploring the Wye Valley, Forest of Dean areas and the Cotswolds. Note - there is a train line that runs close to the cottage and trains do pass fairly regularly and into the night. The cottage was very clean and comfortable and well equipped, comfy cosy lounge with woodburner and a great smart TV. The cottage could do with a few extra basic items - a cafetière or coffee machine, small water/juice glasses, larger wine glasses. The beds and bathroom were very comfortable (bath towels were rather small - bath sheets would be better). All in all a great place to stay for a weekend break.

Thank you for your compliments and helpful comments, we are glad you enjoyed your stay. We have added a cafetiere and larger wine glasses. The bath towels are the standard size, new this year. We would like to add that the train line is about 200 yards from the cottage, it is the furthest away property in the hamlet. Night trains are infrequent and if the double glazed windows are closed at night the sound is minimal. Property Owner

What a fantastic place to stay, the cottage facilities are above and beyond , stayed here twice and will definitely stay again, everything you could wish for and more, a fantastic place to stay if you have dogs, beautiful and quiet area but everything you want around you, plenty of Information provided for places to visit etc, beautiful part of the country, can't praise it enough, the only downside is when you have to go home , a definate 5 star stay x

“The best cottage we’ve ever stayed in.”

Beautifully appointed, with quality and style. The cottage and the area is steeped in history which is well documented in the cottages information booklet. We, a couple with two cockapoos really enjoyed our stay. There were a few walks directly from the cottage, unfortunately due to work on the paths which were in full swing so unfortunately they were closed for us. But the cottage is well placed to reach all the walks in the Forest, only about 15 minutes away. The harbour at Lidney is another place full of history and well worth a visit and a walk. Would highly recommend.

“Clean and comfortable cottage with well equipped kitchen and nice bathroom.”

Sofa space was a bit tight for 4 adults and the noise of the water tank/boiler in the twin bedroom was a little intrusive at night

Thank you for your comments. The sofa is indeed a 3-seater, but there is an armchair. Sorry if you found the boiler in the airing cupboard a little intrusive, other guests have not had an issue with it. We chose an electric boiler, partly to avoid any oil smells and minimise noise. Property Owner

“Our hosts were lovely and extremely friendly and welcoming.”

The cottage was well equipped and very comfortable. It was a shame that local footpaths were overgrown or closed for maintenance work. We still had a lovely time and visited many local places where we had great fun.

Unfortunately the upstream section of the Severn Way is temporarily closed, but the downstream section is open. We have been out with the shears and can say that all the nearby footpaths are currently clear (late August 2025), including the path up the valley through the wood! Property Owner

“Beautiful location.”

Very peaceful. Kitchen adequately equipped. Living room & beds v comfortable. Only minor niggle was poor selection of glasses. Small tumblers for spirit drinkers would be appreciated. Much enjoyed our stay and would definitely return .

“What a week.”

A very comfortable and homely stay. Greeted by the owner was lovely. The cottage was clean, and attention to detail was made on all aspects. The kitchen was kitted out with everything you could think of. Nothing negative to say about this place. Definitely come back. Our dog had a lovely time too. Safe enclosed front garden. “Court house cottage is a very well presented holiday venue.”

We found it to be very comfortable and well equipped and suited our every need. As we were well prepared to self cater (we had two dogs with us, and find it easier to eat at our venues) the kitchen was a pleasure to use and we didn't seek out local pubs or restaurants but we did pass quite a few within a 10- 20 minute drive. The garden area is secure if you have dogs or children, and the weather was very hot during our stay but we had shade during the afternoon. Be prepared for some passing trains about 300m away and apart from that we had a very peaceful a relaxing break. Nigel, the owner, introduced himself on arrival and pointed out a few things locally and was a pleasure to chat to. All in all we found Court House cottage to be excellent !

“Lovely property sympathetically restored and furnished, very isolated and peaceful.”

Very friendly owners living next door who were extremely helpful. Directions to it need correcting and the owners are aware of this and are acting upon it. Highly recommended.

“We had a lovely time in this property, Nigel and his neighbours were very helpful with directions, about the area, and where to go for days out.”

It is in a quiet area and you do need the car to get out and about, not far from the forest of Dean. The cottage is beautifully maintained, the beds are very comfortable, everything that you need for a great holiday. If you want peace and tranquility, this is the place. We will definitely be booking again.

The ancient village of Blakeney lies on the southeast edge of the Royal Forest of Dean and was once a site of a Roman Villa dating back to 75AD. Equidistant to Gloucester and Monmouth, the village boasts many 16th and 17th century buildings, with a charming 16th century coaching inn, and also offers a good selection of amenities including a fish and chip shop, village store and Post Office, as well as numerous walks and cycle routes. The magnificent Royal Forest of Dean, England's largest oak forest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, boasts numerous trails that can be explored on foot, by bike or horseback. Caving, abseiling and a high wire rope course can be enjoyed by the more adventurous, whilst fishing, golf, kayaking and canoeing are other popular activities available in this unspoilt area. In the Forest of Dean lies Puzzlewood, a magical ancient woodland attraction for all ages and used as a famous filming location in Dr Who and Star Wars. The eerie caverns and ancient caves of Clearwell are close by, as are the Gloucestershire Way and Offa's Dyke Path for wonderful walks. Close by, Symonds Yat boasts natural scenery and straddles the beautiful River Wye with its magnificent limestone rock, popular with climbers, and well known for its viewpoint. Visit the historic town of Monmouth, which offers a fusion of elegant Georgian mansions and Victorian courtyards, or the lovely town of Ross-on-Wye with its timbered Tudor houses and delightful riverside walks, both home to excellent shops, pubs and restaurants. The unspoilt Malvern Hills, Brecon Beacon National Park and Black Mountains, as well as lovely Cotswold towns and villages are just a little further afield.
