The hamlet of Notgrove lies on the top of the Cotswolds in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Mentioned in the Doomsday Book, the Notgrove Estate is now a family farm of around 1500 acres. Set in some spectacular countryside it includes 400 acres of unspoilt pasture mostly in steep sided dry valleys, interspersed with mixed woodland copses. There are around 30 Cotswold stone cottages in the quiet and picturesque village, which is typical of the area. There are many, many miles of walks to be enjoyed across the estate, maps are provided in the cottages, which allow you to take in some of the most breathtaking views.
Nearby is Bourton on the Water ("The Venice of the Cotswolds") which has a number of attractions and remains a popular place to visit when staying in the Cotswolds. Northleach is also closeby, which includes one of the Cotswolds' finest gastro pubs The Wheatsheaf. About 15 mins drive away are the popular villages of Stow on the Wold and Burford, with their collection of pubs, restaurants and shops.
Set deep in Cotswolds' territory and surrounded by rolling hills and open countryside, this location is the perfect spot for all that is good and glorious about a UK and English holiday. A visit to Notgrove will (we're quite certain) leave you both recharged and relaxed in equal measure. The family have worked hard to create the perfect balance of a countryside idyll with farm animals, chickens, alpacas and you name it plus the chance to take the bikes to scoot around the local lanes (along with other activities to boot!) If you fancy doing nothing then you can go for gold... there's a pool table, table tennis table and table football within 10 yards in the Games Room. You can even get the local chef in to cook for you if you really want to go for it - in the terms of kicking back!
Notgrove is the place that time forgot - a few period cottages clustered around the Estate Manor and gorgeous fresh air everywhere - no time for the X Box here; leave the Wii at home!
If you bring the kids, the Cotswolds Farm Park owned by BBC Countryfile's Adam Henson is about 20 mins drive away, alternatively how about the famous Cotswold Wildlife Park at Burford (15 mins) There are plenty of other options.
If you fancy gastro pubs or simply the best in traditional local pubs, then you've got a huge choice. Try The Wheatsheaf at Northleach for the top end gastro experience, its about 7 mins in the car. The local pub in the village at Cold Aston (The PLough) was refurbished in 2013 and is proving very popular. You can walk across the fields to this pub. We could go on....
If you fancy a little retail therapy, then you've have a good selection - Montpellier in central Cheltenham is attractive (15 mins drive), Oxford is about 25 mins away, meanwhile the infamous Daylesford Country Store is a must visit for those looking for a slightly more expensive treat!!
