Buckland is one of those heavenly Cotswolds' villages that you often hear about, but never actually find yourself! Located down a little lane, approx 2 miles from Broadway the village is picture-postcard in every sense. Cute, Cotswolds houses with pretty cottage gardens overflowing with flowers and colour, a welcoming hotel for drinks (and much more) and all surrounded by rolling hills and walks that evoke those memories of England at its finest. In fact even on a wet day, when we visited, the village almost looked better! You'd almost believe on the set for TV film it's that pretty.
Buckland sits about 2 miles to the south west of Broadway, no more than 5 mins in the car. There is a large Manor House hotel in the village which welcomes visitors for a drink or a meal, the owner heartily recommends it for meals. Failing this, we recommend you try The Mount pub in the nearby village of Stanton, itself another stunning village. Snowshill is another village worth visiting, also with traditional village pub!
Broadway, one of the jewels of the Cotswolds, is absolutely a must for visiting. There are many shops and antique and otherwise plus a great selection of restaurants and bars that come well recommended. There is a 'back way' to walk to Broadway which will take less than an hour or so. One of the main things to do at Broadway is visit the Tower, a 'folly'that stands proudly overlooking the Cotswolds and is open to the public.
For other ideas, you can read our Guide to Broadway, which will give you extra suggestions when in the area. Cheltenham is about 15 mins drive away, Stratford about 25mins both a good day out. For children, we'd say that Cotswolds Farm Park is a definite trip worth taking.
A great location for a great holiday!
