Fairford is a small town (well large village really!) that sits on a lovely stretch of the River Coln. It has a long history (and wealthy one) that owes its fortune to its location - an important coaching town on the old London to Gloucester route. Some of the inns and hotels are reminders of this. As so many villages, its great glory is the parish chuch St Mary's which is a fine 'wool church' with a complete set of 28 medieval stained glass windows. The Coln river is a slow and lazy river, offering delightful walks in the quiet Cotswold countryside including kingfishers, swans, little grebe and brown trout plus shy water voles.
There are a number of good places to eat including Allium an excellent restaurant and also the Bridge Restaurant. The Plough Inn is a good local pub serving traditional fare. There are also a number of small shops on the attractive Market Square which are worth a little stroll and visit.
Fairford sits between Cirencester and Lechlade on Thames with each about 15 mins away by car. Surrounding the area are many stunning villages, some which can be reached by walking, some by car. We'd recommend the former as you'll get a much better view of the Cotswolds!
"Ideal location & it was an easy place to relax. Weather wasn't great but the property was comfy. Good local amenities in Fairford. Shutters in master bedroom didn't reach full height & absence of blinds made for early waking : ( Kitchen well equipped and the Aga enjoyable (but not practical for larger numbers) but holiday cooking would have been simpler with the addition of a microwave "Lotwick 2017-08-13
"It's in a beautiful setting. Cleanliness was excellent. Standard of property was better in reality than it appeared online. It was a very flexible property – although we were 8 adults, it would be great for family parties too. Mr Parker, May 2017."Parker 2017-05-12
