When you invest £3000 for a week’s holiday in the UK for your family you expect it to be something special. Sadly, nothing could be further from the truth. Gasping for a cup of tea after the long journey only to find kettle in a disgraceful state so I ended up having to descale it before use. My grandchildren wanted a cold drink, but the glassware was filthy so that too required cleaning. A kitchen drawer was full of water and some of the utensils inside were rusty. The washing machine had mould growing around the door evidence yet again that a proper cleaning regime wasn’t in place. But worse was still to come. As the first day wore on, we were besieged by thousands of wood lice in both the living areas and bedrooms. We were constantly using the Henry to vacuum them up. The grandchildren were terrified and wouldn’t sleep, the lice were crawling out of the loft hatch and falling on to their beds, they ended up sleeping with me and their parents. My son contacted Sykes only to be told it was just “nature” and that they would disappear when they learned that humans were there. This was rubbish and just a pathetic attempt to placate without doing anything. A holiday should be for rest and relaxation but was anything but. We toughed it out for a few days, vacuuming several times a day but in the end decided to come home early. Sykes were totally disinterested and did nothing to help. Sadly it would seem we may have to legal action unless Sykes respond positively.

Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at The Malt House. I'm sorry to hear the Housekeeping wasn't up to our usual high standards, this will be forwarded to our Managed Services to review. I understand you spoke to our Out of Hours services and they explained woodlice do sometimes come out in very old period property's with stone walls. I understand it's not pleasant, but unfortunately it's out of our control to, that said we would have been more than happy to send our HK over to hoover and clean the areas and to provide new bedding if this made you feel more comfortable. I hope you still managed to enjoy the pool and took your Grandchildren to the Wildlife Park just down the road, it's worth the visit. Kind Regards Manor Cottages Property Owner

The property

The Malt House is the sort of place where you arrive and never want to leave.

From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere, the character, comfort and charm give it a magical feel a truly unique sense that you are enjoying a one-off holiday home.

Sitting in a timeless village in the heart of the Cotswolds, you are in the midst of the most attractive part of the region.

You are just 10 mins drive from Burford and no more than 15 mins from notable places such as Stow on the Wold and Bourton on the Water giving you an excellent base for getting out and about.

However, we suspect you won't want to leave this venerable old house - a proper home from home, where you will find some artfull touches to make it a one-off.

There is little that this holiday home doesn't have, it has, amongst many other things: a pool, Sky Sports, multiple woodburners, a piano(!) a conservatory, an enormous garden (even a cutting flower garden for you to help yourself), three of the highest quality bathrooms we have EVER seen and enough rooms to keep everyone happy.

The owner has the most wonderful taste and she has made this house unique, very much a home.

Down the lane just 10 min walk away is a good local pub and about 10 mins drive away is The Wheatsheaf at Northleach (the best gastro pub in the Cotswolds reputedly).

If Daylesford is your thing that's just 20 mins away.

Of course this assumes you want to get out!

For families, friends or groups this is OUTSTANDING choice of self catering accommodation.

Heavenly! Note: The is an open pond children must be supervised at all times outside.

Note: Similarly with the pool, due care MUST be taken, it is walled and gated, but children must not be left unattended at the pool at any time.

NOTE: This property has a £300 good housekeeping bond This amount is automatically shadowed when the booking is made NOTE: The swimming Pool is available from May 8th to September 8th

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £300.

About the location

Burford

Burford is possibly one of, if not THE most famous of the Cotswolds' locations. With its medieval bridge, old stone houses and attractive Tudor and Georgian frontages, Burford is justifiably one of the most picturesque towns in England. Often referred to as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds', the town was originally a fortified Anglo-Saxon ford which later grew to be an important regional crossroads and wealthy wool town. Located mid way between Oxford and Cheltenham (25 mins each away) it is a little haven of history and beauty that many come to fall in love with when they visit.

The 16th century Tolsey building, once the meeting place for medieval merchants, now houses The Tolsey Museum, a delightful local museum illustrating the town's social and industrial past. The church is stunning, a real gem architecturally with many interesting memorials charting some of Burford's great families. There is also the signature, on the baptisimal font, of Antony Sedley, one of the Levellers besieged in the church in 1649 - three of the ringleaders were executed by Oliver Cromwell's men in the churchyard. History awaits!

With little changing over the centuries, Burford is now very popular with visitors, both for its beauty and history but also for its shopping and antiques, and for the wide variety of places to eat, with restaurants, pubs and teashops. It is an ideal base for visiting The Cotswolds area as it is within easy driving distance of popular attractions such as Blenheim Palace, Sudley Castle, Warwick Castle and several National Trust Houses and Gardens. Bourton on the Water, Bibury, Cirencester and Stow on the Wold are all with 25 minutes from the property.

Note: The family room is accessed via steep steps and may not be suitable for those with limited mobility. This room is a double with the stair case in the room, going up the the eves with 3 single beds in.
