Hay on Wye, Wye Valley, Forest of Dean & surrounding area
Lower Moor Lodge, is a truly cosy cottage located on the edge of the famous market town of Hay on Wye - world famous for its historic and literary connections. The cottage, which is over 200 years old and once the lodge to the Lower Moor Manor, has a wealth of period features throughout, including original flagstone, lead mullion windows, wooden flooring and the all important wood burning stove! Inside, the house is light and bright, perfect for a family of four, with two good sized bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen plus dining room and living room. All rooms have views across the countryside which surrounds the building. The style is welcoming with a clever mixed of the old with new and modern touches to bring it up to good standard, we found it to be a very charming home. Surrounding the house is a lovely garden with various benches and tables to enjoy the fresh air. The property is located about 10 mins walk from the centre of Hay, which has a wide and attractive selection of shops, cafes and restaurants.

The cottage is located on a road on the outskirts of Hay on Wye, a town perhaps best known for its Literary Festival, theannual review of all things literature that brings the great and the good to Hay! (The happens in each Spring Bank Holiday in late May.) Although the festival is clearly the famous draw, the appeal of the town is very clear to see - it is like an oasis of charm and style in the middle of the so called Golden Valley of the Wye Valley. The shops are both attractive and varied, the food restuarants and pubs are similar and many are stylish. We've found Hay to be a thoroughly delightful town all year round, with thec option to go for miles and miles of walks nearby deep in some truly attractive countryside. The walk from the cottage to the heart of Hay is about 10 mins.
Located on the River Wye and straddling the English and Welsh borders, the town is a real gem of a destination with plenty to do for all people. The town has always held an important place in the region, being on the road to Brecon, once the most important town for miles around. Because of this it has many coaching inns and pubs, the tradition of offering food and lodging to travellers continues with the cuisine being among the best on offer in Britain.
A short drive in almost every direction will take you to some stunning scenery, a host of quaint and attractive villages and some simply superb walks. Depending on the direction you take, you can easily reach the Brecon Beacons or the Wye Valley.
"It was warm and cosy, it had a really nice, relaxed, happy feeling about it. It was also perfectly positioned for hay-on-wye but gave us the countryside views at the same time. "Mrs Hayes 2017-08-08
"Loved Hay on Wye, and the cottage had been so sympathetically refurbished that it had kept all of its original features but with the addition of 21st Century comfort. Ms Anderson, May 2017."Anderson 2017-05-09
"“The Lodge was an absolutely stunning house set in a beautiful location! The house itself is immaculately presented and it's location is perfect (just 5 minutes from Hay on Wye, with access to gorgeous countryside walks and attractions). We had a lovely peaceful stay and we would definitely revisit. Thank you for a wonderful stay!” Charlotte, Oct 2016"Charlotte 2016-10-14
