Clanfield, Burford & surrounding area
What an unbelievable location! Stunning! With total seclusion and only fields surrounding you, this is an eco-heaven cottage that takes you back to the gold ol' days of playing, talking, walking and getting together once more. Set down a private drive about 1/2 mile from the lane and about 1 mile from the nearest village, Kingfishers is every inch the rural retreat you imagine when you think Cotswolds' countryside. Inside, the owners have created a smart, contemporary country home with modern furnishings across the two floors - white washed walls together with period touches give it a really chic feel, yet at the same time it feels cosy and homely; wood burning stoves, occasional beams or exposed walls make it warm and inviting. Upstairs are three good sized bedrooms, while the kitchen / diner is very smart and modern and with views on three sides - it has a fabulous aspect. Outside the gardens wrap around the house, and with little other than birdsong to break the silence it is perfect for children to play or adults to relax. The little stream to the rear of the house is perfect for messing about in, but obviously where there is water, care must be taken. All in all this is a fantastic location for families or for groups. Heavenly.

The garden, which is mainly enclosed, is large and spacious. There are various points of interest including a small walkway over the stream along with some raised beds that have some seasonal veggies as well as herbs too. It is mainly enclosed. Parents of young children should take care of the stream. As you can imagine, there are endless walks, including the Oxfordshire Way which actually crosses the owner' paddock - the field next to the garden.
The house has it's own unique water source (which is treated and processed through a water treatment system giving fresh tap water) which comes from the well in the garden, the well is covered please note. Add to this some solar panels (in addition to normal electricity) and you have a very eco-friendly house!!
Children Welcome. Fixed Cot & High Chair supplied. Ample off street parking. Wifi available and included.
Kingfishers is located half way between the Little Clanfield and Clanfield villages, with the latter more of a traditional size village while Little Clafield is no more than a hamlet. The area is beautiful, nothing but open fields and countryside and very peaceful. There is a small lane into Clanfield, which you can walk in about 20 mins and which is a bustling and thriving spot in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds.
Clanfield is an historic village located about 5 miles from Witney and Burford where you will find all of the necessary shops and general convenience stores and supermarkets for your stay. In many ways it displays classic Cotswolds characteristics with many attractive stone buildings and houses throughout the village, some dating back to the 12th Century. There are two good pubs in the village, The Clanfield Plough and also The Tavern, both of which serve good beer/ale and also offer good (but different) food.
Witney has all the modern convenience stores and supermarkets for your stay as well as a good selection of restaurants to choose from. Burford is much smaller but is much more famous for its position as one of the Cotswolds' most desirable and attractive places. Historic buildings line the High Street, where you can enjoy cafe culture in a selection of places or browse the shops. Huffkins for afternoon tea is a must!!! Read more about our ideas for your stay in our Guide to Burford
Surrounding the Clanfield are a selection of attractive villages and hamlets. Of particular note is the famous Kelmscott Manor famous for its association with William Morris the important designer of fabric. Slightly further afield are a host of National Trust gardens, while there are some excellent walks from the village directly.
Also, we mustn't forget that Bampton is the home to Downton Abbey, where it was filmed mainly. You can visit many of the locations for the filming.... if that's your thing!!
For the more adventurous, Oxford is within 20 mins drive, while most of the Cotswolds' most famous landmarks such as Stow on the Wold, Bourton on the Water, Chipping Campden and Tetbury are all within half an hour drive.
