Coopers Hill, Cirencester & surrounding area
What an incredible setting! Hay Barn Cottage (4* Gold Award Rated) is located in a simply breathtaking spot where the views are outstanding. In fact you can see why the Romans chose Coopers Hill on which to build one of their luxurious villas! Surrounded by open fields and woodland, Hay Barn Cottage enjoys awesome views across the valley to the surrounding hills and the village of Witcombe below. On a clear day you can even see the Welsh Mountains to the west. Though not Roman, the cottage is well over 200 years old and is steeped in history with many of the old features visible giving the house a truly unique and charming feel. Thick stone walls and massive oak beams are amazing! The owners, who live on the farm, have ensured that the cottage is spotlessly clean, warm and welcoming and kitted out with all the main mod-cons to make your stay comfortable.
Outside there is a private garden, adjacent to surrounding fields, from where you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside and local wildlife.

Haybarn enjoys one of the most spectacular views on our books - located at the end of a mile long drive and at the top of a hill with glorious unspoilt views. Perhaps most interestingly the property backs onto "Cooper's Hill", a famous and renowned spot as this is where the 'World Cheese Rolling Championships' happen! This is a mad cap event that occurs every May Bank Holiday where people stand at the top of this steep hill and literally chase a large roll of cheese down the hill with the aim of reaching the bottom before hill before it does!! This is approximately 200 yards from your door so you can enjoy the hill and view at a more leisurely pace if you wish...
The farm also sits close to a small but important Roman ruin which is half way up the drive, or a short walk away. Although there are countless walks from your door, for the more hardened shoppers there are a wide array of choices on offer. For basic stuff there is shop at the petrol station about a mile away, otherwise there is some excellent 'top end' shopping to be done in Montpellier in Cheltenham (about 7 miles) or in Gloucester Quays where there are many famous brands.
Many of the Cotswolds' famous honeypot locations are within half and hour drive including Burford, Bibury, Stow on the Wold and Cirencester. Otherwise Tewkesbury, The Forest of Dean, and further a field, Bath and Oxford are all within an easy drive.
Similarly, the famous Severn Bore (a tidal surge on the River Severn) is nearby too and if the timing is correct you will see a unique natural phenomena.
"The cottage is in a beautiful location. Great for walks, close to attractions and good pubs etc. The cottage was cosy and decorated for Christmas yet still spacious enough for all our needs. I am really tempted to just go ahead and book again for next year! Sooo relaxing. We absolutely loved it. "williams 2017-01-01
"The property was very well equipped and was in a beautiful location. Our hosts were very welcoming and helpful."Mrs Stefanidakis 2016-09-17
"Hay Barn Cottage was the best Airbnb we have stayed in. It was quiet, immaculately clean and more thoroughly equipped than we could have hoped for. Upon arrival, on site host ( lives in attached farmhouse) Jo gave us a very thorough tour, explaining carefully where everything was and how it all worked. She had also baked us a cake and left a nice bottle of Shiraz. Extensive information about and maps of the local area are provided as well as what turned out to be excellent advice about local pubs. We had not known that the cottage is only about 100 yards from a 4th century Roman villa site maintained by English Heritage and free to visit. For walkers it is not much further before you are on the Cotswold Way and soon encountering great views, including back towards Coopers Hill Farm as you walk towards Birdlip. A walk to Cranham for Sunday roast at the Black Horse was a highlight of our stay. With good weather it was hard to stay indoors but the cottage does provide good wi-fi, a large TV with Sky, and more books than you could read in a year. Jo and John were generous and gracious hosts. It was indeed a memorable visit and we will surely book Hay Barn Cottage again if back in the area.” Larz Bourne, Oct 2016"Larz 2016-10-14
