Churchill is a beautiful unspoilt Cotswold village with a large open green and some elegant stone and thatch cottages mostly dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is situated in the Evenlode valley in Oxfordshire and is a short drive from the popular market town of Chipping Norton. A small, yet thriving village with a good sense of community it is generally viewed as one of the best in the region. The church is especially pretty.
The village has a superb pub, which is literally across the lane from the cottage. The Chequers is very popular and for good reason the food is great and the atmosphere similar and welcoming.
In the next village if Kingham, which has a main line railway station from London. However, of particular note in the village are the two pubs The Wild Rabbit and the Kingham Plough. The Wild Rabbit was recently awarded the Michelin Pub of the Year 2015 with the guide's editor, Rebecca Burr, saying: 'This Cotswold pub is a chocolate box delight: stylish yet rustic, spacious yet cosy, it offers a convivial welcome and of course, first-rate food'.
The Kingham Plough which is another quintessential Cotswold Inn also has an award winning outstanding restaurant. According to AA Gill: "The kitchen is a serious restaurant workplace. The bar menu is as fine as any I've seen...anyone thinking of opening a local pub restaurant should come here and see the gold standard." (Sunday Times).
Also just a mile up the road from Churchill is the Daylesford Farm with its wonderful Farm Shop, Spa and Restaurant - very much a shoppers paradise, which although small certainly attracts a large following!
For those looking to explore the Cotswolds further there are the towns and villages of Chipping Norton, Stow on the Wold, Bourton on the Water and Burford close by, and wonderful days out to be had at the likes of Blenheim Palace, The Cotswolds Wildlife Park and BBC Countryfile's Adam Henson's, Cotswolds Farm Park. Oxford, Stratford upon Avon and Bath are also all within a reasonable drive
