Southrop is a classic Cotswolds' village, surrounded by fields and open countryside, it's another little gem! Located within 15 mins of Burford and about 10 mins from Lechlade on Thames, you have your needs easily catered for. Southrop is mentioned in the Doomsday Book and therefore has a long history - the church is beautiful and dates back to 1086!
The village has some superb walks to enjoy. We particularly recommend those which take you toward the River Leach where you'll encounter some more outstanding villages and pubs. There is of course, the lovely Swan pub in Southrop which serves very good quality food and has a very strong reputation locally - definitely worth a visit. In addition we'd also recommend the outstanding Five Alls pub in Filkins (5 mins drive) which is owned by local resident Kate Moss (yes the model!) and also serves some superb food. The Plough in Kelmscott is very good and in a truly beautiful village, where William Morris' Kelmscott Manor is situated. It's a National Trust house and open on Wednesday and Saturday. Or how about the restaurant in The Bull in Fairford.
Beyond the pubs (!!) there are some great things to do. Take a journey on the River Thames from Lechlade, which also happens to be the place where David Walliams started his swim to London; alternatively you can enjoy a simple walk along the river's paths. Burford is just 8 miles away, where you will find an eclectic selection of shops, including the amazing Burford Garden Centre - so, so much more than just a garden centre!
The Cotswolds Wildlife Park is very nearby too, with a great selection of animals as well as some award winning gardens.
Beyond the local area is Cirencester the once ancient capital of the Cotswolds where you will find a wide selection of shops, restaurants and facilities and definitely worth at least one visit; Woodstock and Blenheim Palace are about 30 mins away which similarly is an excellent day trip. Oxford is also within 40 mins drive.
