Oddington, Stow on the Wold & surrounding area

With light, bright rooms throughout, this contemporary home is beautifully presented (and designed) to maximise on the quality and living space available. The heart of the home is very much in the kitchen / dining / garden room where function and style mean a perfect place for entertaining. The team at Manor Cottages simply love this house and everything about it (well, the pub is just 3mins walk around the corner too!) and particularly the furnishings with great thought given to making this an ideal choice for a family (the owners have thoughtfully left plenty of toys) or group looking for the best in the Cotswolds. Embrook sits in a quiet location in the heart of Upper Oddington. Together, the villages of Upper and Lower Oddington lie in the gently undulating valley of the river Evenlode two miles east of the market town Stow on the Wold - the highest town in the Cotswolds. Upper Oddington is part of the Oddington Conservation area and is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty. As a classic village there are few to compare (in our opinion!) with a truly beautiful collectin of traditional Cotswolds stone houses throughout the village. It is one of the very few to remain untouched in terms of development. The pub around the corner from Embrook is a lovely, welcoming option - The Horse and Groom.
There is along history to the area and village with many houses dating back as far as the 16th century, while the Church of St Nicholas dates further back to the 12th century and therefore is Norman! Visitors to this lovely little church will be rewarded with an opportunity to see the rare Doom fresco.
Upper Oddington is ideal for exploring quintessential English villages, historic houses and gardens and an abundance of superb walks of the surrounding area. There are many National Trust historic houses and gardens within a very easy drive with Chastleton House perhaps the most obvious. Serious garden enthusiasts will also like the opportunity to visit Sackville's Gardens at Hidcot Boyce - a must see.
For the more determined shopper, there is the 'organic paradise in the countryside' to be found at Daylesford Organic Farm with it's shop, restaurant, garden centre and it's holistic spa too. Stow on the Wold too has a good selection of boutique style shops - approx 5 mins drive away.
The villages of Upper and Lower Slaughter, Bledington and Broadwell are well worth a visit all with good pubs or similar worth visiting. Stow-on-the-Wold and Morton-in-Marsh cater for all shopping needs with a Tescos etc.
Finally (but by no means least) there are some absolutely excellent pubs nearby, in addition to your local! Lower Oddington is the location of the Fox Inn both offering warm hospitality and wonderful food, while award winning food and service can be found at the Kings Head, Bledington (5 mins), The Wild Rabbit and Kingham Plough (both Kingham about 8 mins) or The Feathered Nest at Nether Westcot (about 10 mins) Plenty to keep you well occupied!!!
"What a lovely property in a beautiful Cotswolds village. The cottage is very well equipped and decorated and furnished to a high standard, it feels like a home from home. The adults in our party loved the relaxing, homely lounge while our two daughters spent most of their time in the conservatory area; the extra TV, DVDs and games is ideal. "Mrs Warren 2017-10-05
"The Cotswolds is one of our favourites places to visit. Perfect for day trips and something different everyday. The cottage was wonderful and perfect for our needs. Beautifully fitted out and very relaxing. All of the arrangements (booking picking up keys etc) were very easy. Our five year daughter loved the toys and bunk beds. The cottage was thoughtfully decorated. Ms Beatty, June 2017. "Beatty 2017-06-11
