Christian Malford, Bath & surrounding Area
We loved this holiday home when we visited it! The Comedy Cottage is an attractive barn that sits in the grounds of the owners' magnificent home, set in a quiet and private location and ideal for a relaxing break in the countryside or as a base to visit many exceptional locations including Bath. Guests can enjoy the gardens freely as well as use the tennis court too! Unique in name and nature, Comedy Cottage (originally for horses and coaches!) is spacious and very light with accommodation for two people (plus more if necessary). It is set in the southern Cotswolds, with places like Tetbury and Cirencester only 20 mins drive away while Bath in the other direction is about 25 mins drive. In fact the barn is great spot for a 'town and country' break! Downstairs is the kitchen/diner, bright, modern and well equipped, while upstairs is the living room, leading to the bedroom and ensuite. (Please note that although the rooms are in the eaves upstairs, both are full height for a 6ft+ person and not in any way cramped or head hitting at all!)
Throughout the home the colours are attractive, welcoming and very much in the modern-contemporary style but in keeping with the location. The owners, who live on-site, have considered everything to make your stay comfortable. If you're energetic you might like to use the tennis court! For the lively and determined there are two pubs within walking distance across the fields.
Entrance through to the Kitchen/Diner with a circular dining table, four chairs plus a sofa.
Kitchen, is large and beautifully presented with electric hob, oven and grill, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine, ipod dock and digital radio. Cracking views across the gardens.
Living Room with sofa, plus additional seating. (Sofa can be used as a sofa bed for two extra guests upon request, chargeable - please note that this better suited for children*). TV with Freeview and DVD player. Please note: there is a small arched window with no curtain in this room.
Bedroom One with double bed (4ft 6in), chest of drawers and hanging space leading to Ensuite Shower Room with large walk in shower, WC and washbasin.
The Barn faces west towards the gardens, with your private, off street parking nearby. The gardens are large and although there is no 'fenced private' area, guests will have their own area way from the owners to enjoy and close to your accommodation (complete with table and chairs). Additionally, guests are welcome to arrange use of the tennis court if they wish.
One small, well behaved Pet welcome. Children of all ages welcome (sofa bed* bed available - please note this is more suitable for children than for adults). Wifi included. Cot and High Chair available. Central heating all year.
*Extra bed charged at £40 (suitable for children only)
Christian Malford sounds almost like a friend or a place from a TV sitcom, but actually it's a small village on the edge of Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. Very much a farming area, it is a working countryside region, filled with traditional villages and buildings. The house and holiday cottage are just outside the main village, but are very easy to get to from the M4 motorway which is about 8 mins drive away (junction 17).
There is a pub within a 15 min walk, The Foxham Inn, across the fields and into the village. Alternatively it is moments in the car. Otherwise there are plenty of attractive walks to follow, many of which will take you along the River Avon which is nearby. For day trips, we'd certainly recommend visiting Castle Combe (approx 15 mins car) which is one of the most attractive villages in southern England, often used in period dramas and has the unusual, but pleasing, feature of having no TV aerials or telephone cables across the skies in the village! Other treats such as the village of Lacock and Bowood House are all but a short drive away.
Slightly further is Bath, which is about 25 mins in the car, and is most certainly worth a visit if time permits. The selection of shops, attractions and restaurants is huge and these alone are reason for a visit, but with the architecture simply stunning this too is another reason for making the trip.
If none of these appeal, then you'll be more than comfortable in the cottage with plenty in the near vicinity to keep you occupied!
