Appin Cottage sits in a perfect spot on the edge of the historic village of Shipton under Wychwood. From your door you are able to take in some stunning scenery on some long walks deep into the Cotswold hills. The village is very much a traditional Cotswolds' one, packed with attractive, classic buildings and a collection of some top notch pubs. It sits about half way between Burford and Chipping Norton, each no more than 3 or 4 miles in each direction and each with resturants and some shops worth visiting. There are three villages that make up the Wychwoods (Milton, Shipton and Ascott) and these are part of the Wychwood forest that once upon a time covered the entire area. Today (sadly) there are only small woods dotted around the location, but the walks through them and around them are just as attractive as they were hundreds of years ago.
Shipton has three pubs in the village and all a very good standard: The Lamb, The Wychwood and The Shaven Crown. Each serve good food and local beer and do come well recommended. There is a basic shop for every day produce and goods, otherise you will be able to get more food etc in Chipping Norton.
If Daylesford is your thing, then you're a short drive away - just 10 mins from the Organic Farm and Store. Otherwise there are many organic farm shops nearby.
For those that wish to explore, the cottage and village is ideally placed in the central Cotswolds with places such as Stow on the Wold and Bouton the Water all within 15 mins drive and ideal for a visit. Further afield and well within a reasonable drive are Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick Castle, Blenheim Palace and many other picturesque villages. Also close by are the Cotswold Wildlife Park.
If golf, fishing and riding appeal then all can be found within 5 miles of the cottage.
