Teal Barn Annexe

We really enjoyed our time at Teal Barn Annexe … so much so that we’ve booked again for the end of August!

Needs improvement.

Whilst the gardens and lake are undeniably beautiful, the interior of the property needs attention. I had read guest reviews of the property from over the years and it seems none of the feedback has been taken board. The property was not well cleaned- especially the floors. I had a crawling bay so this was an issue. I raised it with the owner and they left me a new mop to clean the floors myself! The pans for cooking were unusable- all of the non stick coating was peeling off- we had to buy a new pan. The single beds were seriously uncomfortable. The bathroom radiator leaked for our whole stay, we didn't get a repair and didn't have heat in there. This property could be so much better, if the owners take on guest feedback.

It was a great base for our family (2x adults, 1x child and 1x small-medium sided cockapoo) to explore the local area from. We arrived when it was dark just before 6pm as per previously arranged, to find the barn was really cold as no heating had been put on prior to our arrival which was disappointing. Once this was working we found the barn very comfortable and warm, the added touches like blankets were nice to make use of when snuggling down in the evening. The additional items like biscuits, crisps and soap etc were greatly appreciated. Generally the cleanliness as an overview was very good, however there was still dust and dirt in the corners of all the rooms and along the skirting boards. It was a shame to find the oven had not been cleaned, easily rectified with some oven spray, brio pad and some elbow grease. It would have been helpful for the freezer to be defrosted but we managed, but due to the amount of frost the door no longer closed. We believed the owners lived on site so it was a shame not to briefly meet them and say hello! Overall we had a lovely, enjoyable and comfortable family holiday that everyone enjoyed in a great location so thank you very much ☺️.

Perfect location in a beautiful & peaceful setting.

Our criticism is that the beds and the living room suite were extremely uncomfortable . We really appreciated the apple juice & shortbread & the shower room was very well appointed with a really good shower. I haven’t given this review top marks as there were some things that weren’t working and therefore need attention

Clean and well equipped. Bathroom fabulous. Bedroom needs curtains as blinds insufficient. Lounge suite not the most comfortable.

We had a very enjoyable stay at Teal Barn last week.

The property is in an idyllic if somewhat remote location, our little dog molly loved her walks around the lake. It is well equipped and furnished but the lounge suite and the twin bed mattresses were most uncomfortable and the bathroom door wouldn't close properly hence the lower score in those areas.

Lots to do in the area. Well equipped (although it does need new saucepans!) Only minor issues like the TV would not stream using our netflix account and there needs to be more guidance about recycling.

Very nice cottage in a beautiful position.

We missed having a hairdryer and the non-stick pans were in a poor condition and need replacing. I didn’t appreciate a heavy winter duvet in July!!

Such a peaceful and quiet location would highly recommend and we will most definitely stay there again.

Loved our stay, made better by wonderful spring weather.

It was great watching all the tractors prepping for there 2025 crops in the fields around the annex. Rabbits, birds morning chorus and with geese and swans in the lake it was a very tranquil place to stay.

Overall this is a well furnished and well provided for accommodation.

The welcome pack was a nice thoughtful touch.We found everything we needed was there.The bathroom was large and well lit although we could have used a shower seat for our wrinkly bottoms .We were comfortable and warm during our stay with lovely views across the lakes and countryside.This property was not really suitable for our dear friend Mollie the westie due to the wooden floors being slippery under her paws so perhaps bear this in mind if taking a dog with you.We really enjoyed our stay but despite this being a lovely property we wouldn’t return purely because of the problems with our dog on the floors.Lovely walks around the lake and plenty of wildlife were a bonus for us.9 out of 10.

We love the house.

It was just as we expected and wanted. Even the internet worked after a little adjustment (placing modem closer to the window). The kitchen, the shower and central heating worked perfectly. The beds are quite comfortable. We had a great time in a great cottage. Thanks.

A cosy and comfortable barn conversion thank goodness as the weather was so atrocious we spent more time there than we intended.

It was most frustrating that we had no internet connection the whole time we were there, this had been reported by previous customers making iPad use impossible for local information, communication and entertainment. A weak O2 mobile phone signal was available outside.

Perfect little property in beautiful grounds which were very well maintained.

Generally very well equipped but in hot weather which we were lucky enough to experience, a parasol would have been useful to provide some shade. Our friends who stayed for a couple of days found the twin beds to be a little uncomfortable but we had no issue with the double. Well placed generally for visiting Hereford, Ross on Wye, Hay on Wye and Monmouth. Would definitely stay again.

Great quiet location, Annex had all the facilities as being at home.

Good base to explore Herefordshire. Always value holiday by asking would I come back again, the answer is yes.

We had a really enjoyable relaxing weeks stay. Property close to many places to visit. Enjoyed canoeing trip on river wye and a visit to goodriche caste - very interesting

Superb quiet rural environment….

.exactly as expected. The barn was just right for us, two adults with a small dog. Lovely views and an ideal base for touring around Herefordshire and Momouthshire, Wye valley and Forest of Dean. One small issue, the lounge leather furniture isn’t the most comfortable but the new shower room is great ! We had a very memorable 3 day stay and will definitely book again!

The accommodation was really comfortable, everything catered for.

Set in a beautiful place. We really enjoyed our stay and would return again.

Stayed for two night and kept awake all night both nights by loud barking dogs.

Sounded like a pack of them. Very concerned for their welfare as it’s not natural for dogs to bark so excessively for such long periods of time. Beds and pillows were very uncomfortable and too soft - the single beds very also very low. Lounge settee and chairs very uncomfortable and cushions just kept sliding off. Saucepans not fit for use - the interior coating was peeling and left partials in your food. Property was advertised as one level but interior steps meant this was not the case. The setting and scenery were fabulous and a very beautiful location but could not be enjoyed for the reasons mentioned above. We went home more tired and exhausted than when we arrived. So would not recommend as a place to stay.

Well placed for lots of day trips out. Felt like coming back to a home from home. Would highly recommend.

Teal Barn Annex is very well located, allowing us to enjoy exploring the local area, particularly the medieval castles and the interesting towns of Monmouth and Abergavenny.

Hello, it was our first time staying at Teal barn (not first time staying with Sykes) and we were blown away to how beautiful your place is.

The surroundings are wonderful to look at, walking around the lake very nice and not just cos we have a our doggo. The barn itself so comfortable everything we needed and more. The new shower room definitely added to the class of comfort. Felt like it everything was well thought out for us guests. All the beds are very comfy. Location to places perfect not to far away but you have the peacefulness at the barn to come back to. As owners you were so welcoming. If I had to have a say on what to improve, I would just ask if it would be possible to make the terrace area completely secure for visiting doggo's, just for when sitting out side or just having the patio doors open. We are lucky ours is so good but still we watched him just incase he saw a bunny

Lovely, well equipped property in beautiful, peaceful location, but only a short drive to pubs for good food and to nearby Monmouth, lovely town with great selection of supermarkets, individual shops and eateries.

Be aware of the 2 speed bumps on your final approach to the property as they are quite severe and not particularly noticeable. Would definitely stay here again.

A perfect location for a relaxing time away.

This property is excellent, had 4 lovely nights the end of June this year, the furniture & style of the Annexe is very nice & it was certainly well equipped.

it's on 2 levels which my mom struggled with but didn't spoil her stay there at all. The surrounding are beautiful, very quiet but you can drive to nearby towns. There was a barbecue stated which wasn't there, however when contacting the owner they had it there within the hour, couldn't fault it at all. It's certainly worth a stay here & I hope to return to this beautiful place.

We enjoyed a very peaceful break, in a lovely rural setting, not far to drive into Ross-on-Wye.

The Annexe was very well equipped and comfortable. We struggled to use main door but came in via the other door, so not a problem. Would definitely recommend and would love to come back again. Thanks for the welcome crisps and biscuits.

Been coming to Herefordshire for over 10 years and this has been the best place we have stayed.

It is truly a dog friendly place not just dog accepting like other places we have stayed. The location in stunning with a lovely lake outside you can walk around and the barn has everything you could require. Will be returning to this place

it was a great weeks holiday.

Teal barn annexe was lovely. Very quiet despite being on a working farm. Accomadation was very comfortable and warm . Everything was there that we needed and great place to sit and enjoy the wonderful weather and contryside. we will would be more than happy to come back for a further holiday here. Thank you

This is a beautiful home to let the attention to detail in the home itself were fantastic.

The surrounding area was well kept and lovely to wake up to each morning. Our only concern about the stay was the mattress on the bed. The covering has clearly worn through allowing you too feel the springs. A mattress topper would help this. Plus a text back about the bike store would have been helpful but we understood this is a working farm and they were very busy. Would highly recommend if mattress was sorted.

Teal Barn is a lovely place, in a gorgeous location but we were disappointed with a few things when we stayed.

It’s a massive shame and we hate having to write this feedback because it is a beautiful place but it lacked massively on cleanliness and attention to detail. Our first issue would be the cleanliness of the place. When we first got there, we found a huge cobweb in front of the double doors that led to the outside seating area. Within the first 2 nights, my daughter had 5 spiders in her room which caused issues as she didn’t want to sleep in there then. Which, I know you can’t help spiders but when we pulled the bed out, that’s when we found more and it was dusty and looked like it just hadn’t been checked behind there. The shower head had mould on it and the pipe was mouldy also. The shower is so powerful though which was a massive good point. Loved how powerful it was. There was an awful smell that kept coming through the kitchen sink. In the main bedroom, the beam above our heads on the ceiling, you could see it was thick of dust. Again, attention to detail was missed on some things. We didn’t find the place very comfortable either. Now, this is each to their own but it just wasn’t for us. The sofas in the living room are not comfortable in our opinion. The cushions all move and slip off. The bed in the main room also wasn’t to our liking either. You could feel every single spring in the mattress, the bed itself was very noisy so every time you moved, it made a noise, springs banged and the duvet covers were noisy. We would wake up aching and the noise disturbed our 7 month old son who shared the room with us in his travel cot. The single beds in the other room were a lot better though. Mattresses on them were a lot better. Me and my partner took turns sleeping in there with my daughter because she didn’t want to sleep in there after finding all the spiders. One more thing, it’s quite noisy at night time. My daughter was freaked out by all the bangs that we could hear. I don’t know what it was but there was banging throughout the night. We won’t be coming again and it is a shame because it genuinely is a beautiful place it just wasn’t for us unfortunately. Main reasons for us not returning; we wasn’t comfortable there and there isn’t a secure place for your dogs. Although it says it’s dog friendly, it’s not at the same time because you can’t let you dog free at all. You have to take your dog out on a lead at all times. Which we saw before we booked but it was more of an issue than we thought.

Good view over the lake from the patio. You need a car to get around as it is very rural.

We had a lovely week, lovely location and the dogs loved their walks around the lake, very quiet and relaxing.

The only thing I would say is there was a fan in the property it would have made it a lot better, but that's only because of the heat wave. We would definitely recommend this cottage to people.

A lovely property except the mattress on the double bed was appalling and caused my husband tonhave backache the whole holiday.

The 3 piece suite needs replacing as it keeps falling apart. The property needs a property freezer, not just a fridge ice box and it slso needs a tumble dryer. Also a ceiling mounted fan and small fan's for hot weather.

The single beds were very uncomfortable. As it was Christmas it would have been nice to have had some decorations in the property.

What an absolute gem!

Such a lovely property, tucked away on a farm. The beds were the comfiest we've slept in, the shower was superb, if a little tight on space, but well worth it. A abundantly well equipped kitchen. It's exactly as shown. A very tranquil location, if you want to just get away from it all and recharge. Just an absolute delight to sit on the patio, relax and breathe! We would definitely recommend to anyone.

Not really a dog friendly cottage as no where outdoor to sit with your dog and let him loose Basically they just allow dogs inside The owners did let us use a field to run our dog in.

The shower head was black and needed a good clean The area around the cottage and the lakes is beautiful Just needs a bit of thought to make it really good

The advert undersold the lovely location - the lake was so nice to walk round with our dog each morning!

The cottage was spotless, well furnished and had everything we needed. The WiFi worked great - very handy for the rural location as we didn't have phone signal. The owner was very helpful and even sent our phone charger back to us when we accidentally left it behind. Much appreciated.

The fridge door was reluctant to close!

and remain closed! the setting was lovely, the the owners charming and in spite of Covid restrictions we found something to visit every day for 6 days - some excellent gastro pubs in the area. to enjoy all the surroundings it is necessary to use your car as the location is rural

Teal Barn is located in s great position to explore in every direction - Wales, Wye Valley, Forest of Dean.

And within sight of the barn itself are a series of lakes, providing a wonderful backdrop. The accommodation was spacious, warm and comfortable. It was a privilege to be able to take our dog with us. Wifi reception good. Would have liked to have seen a 'gite book' for recording local experiences and recommendations.

Teal Barn was spacious, comfortable and everything that we needed was provided.

We absolutely loved the location and the view across the owners lake to the open fields beyond was amazing. If you want to get away from it all, we would definitely recommend Teal Barn.

Comfortable cottage with high specification set in beautiful landscaped grounds.

Stables are located near the cottage so a little background noise from the friendly horses. Location very good for access to welsh borders, Monmouth, Hereford etc and a friendly owner. We very much enjoyed our stay at Teal Barn.

We really enjoyed are stay at Teal Barn , the peace and quiet was lovely , the barn although comfortable could do with being painted and freshened up.

Its cleanliness in places was a let down but spoke to owner who said she would look into that , I think if these things were done it would be a fabulous place to stay !!!!

The cottage had everything we would or could want and it was just like the pictures. Would recommend it.

The location is fantastic in terms of the cottage outlook over a lake and also the central location for Ross on Wye, Simmons Yat and Hereford.

Minor points of inconvenience were the low beds, lack of soap holder in the shower and the over could have been cleaner. However, in the overall scheme of things, we both had a lovely, relaxing holiday and would definitely go back again !!

A beautifully equipped cottage with everything we needed.

Peaceful location with views over a lake with swans and ducks. A lovely location in easy reach of Hereford, Monmouth and Hay on Wye. A lovely relaxing holiday.

The kitchen appliances were dirty i.

e. Fridge, Washing machine.Sink, Hob. Oven and Bread bin. Little if any effort had been made to clean them, they were in an unsatisfactory condition. Furniture was very uncomfortable, seats too deep and cushions unstable i.e. slid about. Beds were far too low.

We chose the cottage partly because it is advertised as "all on one level", but in fact there were three quite deep steps down to the kitchen area, which for one of the party with arthritic knees, found challenging.

Two members of the party also found the beds rather low.

Oven was in need of a good clean

Although it was rather out of the way, the peace and quiet {despite the cockerel!

} was very welcome.I especially enjoyed the morning greeting with the GORGEOUS pony, but I refrained from giving tit bits! I also have to complement the owner Mrs Green {Julie} as we managed to leave behind 2 coats and we will be travelling back down to pick them up! Would definitely book again. Didn't want to leave actually!

It would be very nice to have some guide to the area, good walks, recommended pubs, sights to see etc

Very comfortable accommodation —ideal for 2 x couples Everything spotless. Would suggest that a couple of baking dishes and more cutlery would be appreciated- only basic amount of cutlery provided - needed more teaspoons— but plenty of crockery A minor quibble in an otherwise lovely holiday home Thank you

Whilst we were aware that this accommodation was only equipped with a fridge, a freezer ( if only small) would have been of benefit, particularly over the Christmas period.

Otherwise facilities could not be faulted and the owners had thought of everything and the welcome goodies were lovely!

The cottage was very well equipped so I was surprised they had not spent a few pounds on a shelf in the shower for shampoo etc.

I have severe osteoporosis, so this would have made getting clean a lot safer for me.

We really enjoyed our stay at Teal Barn.

The accommodation was very comfortable, tastefully appointed and had lots of additions to make sure our stay was successful. I would highly recommend this property and the location.It was set in a peaceful area but near historic villages and tourist attractions.

Cosmetically it was very good but certainly not suitable for dogs there was no enclosed outside space where the dog could go couldn't have doors open in case dog got out couldn't have windows open because the farm cat would get in my husband tried twice to take the dog for a walk but only got a few yards before one of the farm dogs came up barking with the fur on its back up if you want a lie in not the right place as the tractors etc start about 7.

View on to a small lake with Swans and Canada Geese, in the beautiful countryside. Great location short drives to activities horse riding, canoeing cycling ...

We could not fault Teal Cottage and our stay was very comfortable.

Above average cottage in all respects.

Clean and comfortable accommodation in a beautiful setting. Plenty of dog walks around the farmland. Easy access to nearby towns and country pubs. Extra touches by Julie much appreciated.

The property was lovely and cosy, in a great location. There was loads to visit in the area.

We loved the barn And the setting it was beautiful, however the only downside for us was there was no shops/pub in walking distance but the location was fabulous.

Comfy accomodation with a contemporary feel.

Suited us perfectly. Will definitely stay again in the future. Lovely quiet location.

The chairs in the lounge we did not find comfortable, fortunately we had folding chairs in the car so used those instead.

A sofa would have been nice. Great area for walking and lovely scenery. Lucky with weather too. It is worth going to the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons as walking fabulous and fantastic scenery throughout.

Had a very good fortnights break.

Cottage was very comfortable and in lovely relaxing surroundings. Very quiet and peaceful. Apart from a couple of days weather was good so able to get out and about. Were able to walk anywhere in grounds around the property which had a lovely lake and everything was very well maintained. Would definitely recommend if you want a relaxing break and on our list for another visit.
