Wheelbarrow Castle

Pros: -Plenty of space inside and out, with a beautifully decorated interior and spacious patio attached to the back field.

-Amenities are great, especially the hot tub and two BBQ's, as well as the tables inside. -Location is very close to local shops and train station. -Beds are comfy, clean and have en-suites which are very convenient. -Lots of kitchen cupboard space. -Owners were prompt with communication, on top of fire safety and our security, with a welcome packet relaying the necessary information for our stay. They live next to the property and were always available. Cons: -Wi-Fi was short-range, with only usable in one or two rooms of the whole property, but still good when connection was strong. -Oven lacked a heatproof glass plate behind its door, causing some damage to its plastic lining upon use around halfway through our stay. However, when we reported this to the owners, they acknowledged the situation promptly and did not charge us for any repairs. -Birds are nesting in the roof, so the top floor bedrooms were noisy at night due to the noise they made. -A few of the kitchen drawers were broken. -The fridge-freezer in the property was small for the number of people the property can house, but was still quite spacious and perfect for our needs. -There was a slight issue with flies in the kitchen, but we have put this down to the excess of BBQ food we cooked on the third day of our stay. -The hot tub was set to quite a low temperature and could not be increased in temp by ourselves due to previous damage. While we expect the owners set the default temp lower due to the hot weather, we'd recommend setting it to 40C instead of 32. Overall, Wheelbarrow Castle was an amazing property and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was in an ideal location for us in the beautiful Hereford countryside and the price was much better than other properties of similar size. While the property had a few maintenance issues, these were minor and did not stop us from enjoying our holiday, and the owners were quick to resolve the singular issue we had. We'd highly recommend Wheelbarrow Castle and give our thanks to David and Nicola for their services!

Lovely place for extended family to spend an 80th birthday.

Downstairs en-suite twin room is accessible at ground level from the back door. Plenty of space both inside and outside - and a wonderful hot tub which was hot on arrival (which doesn’t happen often). The garden furniture was a bit rickety and could do with some tlc. The photos don’t really do the space justice.

Excellent property - stunning location, had everything you could have wanted for a perfect girls weekend.

The highlight was the stunning lounge, great for activities and games, place was clean and comfortable, had a few issues with the cooker but David the host was literally there in 2 minutes to help sort. Hot tub was beautiful and walk to the pub was a lovely addition. Will highly recommend for a large group stay

A gorgeous home for a gathering of friends and we all enjoyed a fabulous weekend of unexpected sunshine which was a bonus.

Sat out in the garden until the sun had gone and then moved into the cosy lounge. The hot tub was a good treat for us and the beds are very comfortable. Slept well and awoke to the gorgeous lambs bleating in the field opposite which made my morning. Would recommend a stay at wheelbarrow castle

Very nice property where we had a great holiday.

All facilities in working order so no issues, and very nice and warm despite the cold, wet weather ! Some furnishing were a little tired but perhaps that adds character to a lovely old house. So many thanks and no complaints

We stayed at Wheelbarrow Cottage over Christmas and had a wonderful time.

The booking process was very straightforward and David the owner was very helpful. The house was perfect for what we wanted with a lovely big kitchen and lounge and really good sized bedrooms. The children loved exploring the house and it felt very magical being there at Christmas time. We would love to come back in the summer and enjoy the gardens and hot tub more. We loved the walk to the local pub which is only 10 minutes away. Really good value for money and I would highly recommend to anyone wanting a house for a large family gathering, event or special occasion with friends. Thank you for having us!

This property was perfect for us and we really enjoyed our stay.

We were a large family group with two (well-behaved) dogs. We had a relaxing time and the hot tub was particularly popular! We walked some of the footpaths right next to the house in pleasant surroundings. Good communication and support from the nearby owners.

Very large comfortable house with plenty of space for a large group or family.

We were generally warm and comfortable but worth noting that at least one of the attic bedrooms with single beds has no heating so could be very cold depending on the time of year. Decor was a little down at heel in places. I felt the kitchen equipment really let the place down (we did a fair amount of food prep /cooking.). It was a hodge podge of mismatched stuff that looked as if it had come from a car boot sale. Having said that we did find most of what we wanted (no bread bin) and the plates and mugs were matching if fairly old and utilitarian. One of the fridges caused a problem on our arrival as a door shelf was broken and drinks fell out and were broken (the owner brought us a mop when we requested, but did not seek to make any recompense). Both fridges were fairly old and space was tight for the number the house accomodates. Having said all that it is a lovely old house and we enjoyed our stay.

We had a great family celebration.

Fifteen people in one lounge for fun, ( the smaller lounge helpful for a small group); and 15 people around one meal table was great. We're glad to have found this venue.

We stayed for a long weekend as a family group for a belated 70th birthday celebration.

The house was ideal, with lots of room for all. The house was very clean and comfortable. It is very spacious with an interesting layout that we all loved exploring. The photos really don’t do it justice. There’s outside space with lots of seating and the hot tub was enjoyed by all.

A lovely unique house.

It was well equipped, particularly the kitchen. The owner was helpful with issues that arose and the welcome hamper was a nice touch. The WiFi doesn’t work very well in some areas of the house and the bed in bedroom 3 was a bit uncomfortable but overall we had a lovely weekend with extended family.

The house and cottage were great for our week away with family and friends.

David, the owner, was extremely pleasant and helpful. The house was full of character, the kitchen was well equipped and the huge lounge was perfect for so many people. I would warn people that the floors are uneven, especially on the ground floor. The main bedroom has an amazing en suite bathroom, but it has steps between it and the bedroom. Overall we loved our stay, thank you.

A beautiful house and a lovely location to fit the entire family.

It is a bit tired and in need of some tlc. The oven was temperamental and took ages to heat up. Communication was very good, David was very helpful

Plenty of room for our family get together,including three children and two dogs.

The welcome hamper was appreciated. The kitchen was extremely well equipped, probably the best range of pans, crockery etc that I’ve been offered. It was a shame that some of the kitchen fronts were not fixed. The hot tub was very welcome and lovely and hot. Some of the rooms need a bit of TLC. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The area has plenty to offer including walks, National Trust houses, local historic towns etc.

Large property that was a great size for our family holiday.

We did enjoy our time away. The property was well equipped and we spent most of our time in the kitchen which was a lovely space. However we all felt that the property needed attention. We were generally quite disappointed and felt that the property needed a lot of TLC. So, here are some examples of our experience; Main kitchen door was unusable and needed attention so we didn’t use it and just used the other. Kitchen floor and oven needed a good clean. Cobwebs. Plaster falling off the walls. Leaking shower over the kitchen. Broken kitchen draws etc Broken toilet roll holder downstairs which had been replaced with a stand but the broken one was just left on the wall. Garden furniture was rotten. Cheap beds/mattresses down stairs No hand rail in the downstairs shower room. We felt that a fenced area for the dogs would have been good to have. We did use some garden furniture to make an area but obviously not ideal. Outside area is not really suitable for disabled individuals, parents were unable to explore due to the steepness of the garden. Hot tub was nice but again looked tired and not sure it was as hot as it should have been. We understand the property is old but it just felt like it wasn’t maintained as well as it should be. Unfortunately we won’t be returning.

Great place , Hosts really helpful and accommodating

We had a wonderful family stay at Wheelbarrow Castle, it was perfect to get everyone together.

Plenty of space for everyone - more than we expected! The hot tub was a lovely treat too, although it did get very dark out there on an evening and the timed lights went off very quickly. Some outdoor lights that stayed on would be helpful.

Absolutely ideal for our needs.

All of us had a great time during our weekend. There was an initially an issue with the WiFi which was promptly fixed when we raised the issue.

We were a large family gathering with children and older people.

The accomodation was much better than expected and the facilities were wonderful. David showed us around after greeting us and was available over the weekend to assist with any questions. We have a meet-up with family from all over the UK every year and this has been the best place we've stayed at. The only things to improve the house facilities is having an enclosed garden and glasses in the bathroom (for our morning tablets). But overall it was a wonderful stay and we would recommend the place to anyone wanting to get together over the festive period. We had lunch at the Grove golf course (Hickories) .... Very close and good service.

Wheelbarrow Castle was an excellent venue for our extended family weekend and attending a wedding in the area.

The hosts are friendly. The house is great, with loads of character and loads of space, including two separate lounges (with and without TV). Wood-burner was a nice feature. Well appointed kitchen. Nice hot-tub (even in October) but not very warm in the mornings. Obviously, with it being a 'real' house rather than a purpose-made apartment to rent it is quirky and 'lived-in'. This makes it a very comfortable place to stay.

The most amazing house and an absolutely perfect house to get family of all ages together.

Great socialising space which is very well equipped. A slightly unusual layout in parts led to the best game of hide and seek for the kids (and adults) that never got old! One point of note is the very limited WiFi. For the most part, not a problem as we were there to socialise not browse! However, accessing work emails wasn’t possible at all. We would all absolutely go back and David the host was very friendly, helpful and informative.

We had a really lovely weekend at Wheelbarrow Castle.

Plenty of room for 8 adults and 9 kids to have their own space. The house is beautiful with good facilities, the hot tub was a great addition - providing a fun activity during rainy weekend! Our host was very welcoming and particularly helpful in returning my daughter’s swimming costume to us (which she left in one of the many bathrooms and had caused a few tears when she got home originally!)

There were positives and negatives to our three night stay.

We were a group of 11 female friends, in our 60's. I hope by providing constructive feedback this will help similar groups like ours; who have had this annual weekend together in self catering houses for the past 27 years. The positives are the downstairs areas are very spacious, warm and comfortable. The largest Reception Room is cosy, welcoming and an excellent base for drinks and games. The kitchen is extremely well equipped; a spacious dining area, we liked the garden and there was ample car parking. The property is very well located for NT properties and we really enjoyed visiting Hereford and The Fishermans Arms. All the beds were comfortable and the four ensuite rooms were very well presented. The negatives are that we had underestimated the size of two of the bedrooms on Floor 3. The website is not misleading but until you see the bedrooms you do not realise how small they are. If we had been aware of this we would not have booked the property. Whilst the beds were comfortable there was very limited storage space, no tables or mirrors or places to put any belongings. It did negatively impact on the experience and enjoyment of the friends who used those rooms. The kitchen is well equipped but needs to be sorted out; some equipment needs replacing or upgraded. A number of the wooden drawers were broken, crockery was chipped and cutlery dirty. Overall, as a group we would only give the Wheelbarrow Castle 3 Stars for our experience.

Loved our stay.

It was perfect for 60th celebration for 16 of us. All very easy for catering easily with large kitchen/utility area adjacent for dining room, square table ideal David was very flexible in sorting out our bedding arrangements Would definitely return. Garden area lovely

Wonderful location for a 10 year reunion of a group of 15, ranging from 7 yrs old to 47 years old.

We loved our time at Wheelbarrow Castle.

We stayed for a weekend at Wheelbarrow Castle, 14 of us (from ages 3 to 73).

The owners were very friendly and helpful, and the welcome basket was a lovely touch. It’s equipped with everything you need: high chairs, baby cots, z-beds, tonnes of cutlery, crockery, pots and pans. Beds were comfy and there is so much space! Considering the size of the property it stayed lovely and warm. We had such a lovely time there, it’s a little dated but it’s got a lot of charm.

It was the perfect location and property size for a group of 15 friends to celebrate my 60th Birthday.

The space meant we could all spread out if need be or come together in the communal areas. Nothing was too much trouble from our host too, great weekend

We had a fantastic time at Wheelbarrow Castle!

The house was an absolute gem, even with 17 of us it felt spacious and David was incredibly helpful over the weekend. The hot tub was a great addition and there's also lovely areas to walk nearby. Would happily stay here again!

Property full of character but is tired and in need of update.

One small family bathroom not suitable to service three bedrooms accommodating 7 people. Larger of the bedrooms on first floor didn’t have facilities for hair drying as it didn’t have a mirror and the curtains were falling of the curtain rail. The light didn’t work in the shower in the bathroom. Family room didn’t have a mirror either. Whilst the kitchen had plenty of cutlery and pots and pans there was a definite shortage of serving dishes for a party of 16. The cooker definitely needed a deep clean as there was a lot of food down the vents at the back. There wasn’t enough fridge space for our five day stay a second larger fridge would have been beneficial as the small fridge in the kitchen wasn’t big enough. Whilst there was a large table in the dining area we couldn’t all sit together, I did read it couldn’t fit the whole party you shouldn’t advertise the house to accommodate 17 when only 14 could sit at table for a meal. We were disappointed with the poor amount of Christmas decorations. Christmas tree in the main room with just a few pieces in the sitting rooms. The internet was very poor. It would have helped if we could have attached a cable directly into the modem for streaming. We ended up using one of the guests 4g phone data. On the plus side the house was warm and we had all the family together for Christmas. The owner was helpful when we arrived.

Our family of 12 plus a baby had a wonderful pre-Xmas week at Wheelbarrow Castle.

It is a fantastic property and we really enjoyed all the space this house provides. Some of us took advantage of the hot tub too. Our only moan was that the internet was very patchy but it didn't spoil our stay. We would love to return in the future.

Great holiday house for our large family gathering to celebrate my mum's 90th.

Room for the children to run around & well equipped. WiFi is not great & bathrooms not over plenty but is an old house & comfortable enough to share. Kitchen & dining area a great space for communal meals & games afterwards. Enjoyed our stay very much.

We were very happy with our stay and found everything just as described and just how we needed.

We found everything easily and were grateful for the generous amount of cutlery, crockery, pots and pans. The weather became much colder while we were there, but Wheelbarrow Castle remained warm and comfortable. It was a great base from which to discover Herefordshire. Thank you.

We have had a bad experience with the owner but the property overall is a good property for a large group.

It has good amenities, spacious etc. I would suggest it is more appropriate for a family rather than a large group of friends due to a few negatives we experienced, which I list below. A few considerations before booking which we didn’t realise: The garden is not secure so if you have dogs please bare this in mind. The owners property is connected, music considerations etc. Finally, the owner contacted me a few weeks after our stay berating us for a list of items he sees as negative. Very unprofessional and should have gone through Sykes rather than directly emailing guests. We had caused no damage so he was unable to claim on our bond which I thinks makes it clear the items he raised weren’t important. A good example is that he complained about the amount of rubbish we produced (which we left by the bins in bin bags). So beware before you book, you might have to take your rubbish with you if you don’t want to receive condescending emails.

Absolutely fabulous rental!

We stayed for a week as a group of 6 children and 11 adults. The house is clean, kitchen very well stocked and any request (extra tea towels and scales haha) was dealt with promptly. Plenty of space for people to split off and relax (kids one end, adults the other) and a lovely big dining area for everyone to meet back up and share a meal together. Only downside would be the Wi-Fi, don’t bring anything reliant on Wi-Fi as it’s not going to connect (no Fifa tournaments or movie nights) We will definitely be booking up again.

This is a perfect house for a family get together.

The kitchen is well equipped for family catering and the large lounge is ideal for a party. Everywhere is really comfortable and warm but not so pristine that you need to worry about the children spoiling anything. The outside space is lovely if the weather is good and the hot tub was much appreciated. We had a wonderful weekend and would highly recommend.

We were a family group of 16 and we all thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay.

The location is excellent, within easy reach of National Trust properties, Ludlow, Hereford and Leominster. The accommodation is great. The younger members of our group enjoyed the attic room. The entrance is only suitable for minis! Kitchen very well equipt, the TV room very comfortable but the highlight is the huge sitting room with log burner - a fabulous place for family fun. We had a minor problem with a radiator but this was quickly overcome by the provision of electric heaters. All round, a great place.

Had a brilliant family stay at Wheelbarrow Castle over Christmas.

The house had everything we needed to accommodate 14 of us plus dogs with plenty of room to spare. Wheelbarrow Castle was welcoming and homely and even decorated for Christmas. The children enjoyed the ample space they had to roam and play. It is in a great location and despite the weather we did manage to venture out locally. We had a few issues which David rectified almost immediately. Thank you for helping us all make some lovely memories.

This house is perfect for large groups.

It was warm and comfortable and there are lots of lovely walks nearby. We had an early family Christmas and therefore we pushed the kitchen to its limits regarding pans and baking trays and oven capacity ( there were 11 of us). But we managed and these limitations were more than made up for by the warmth and comfort of the rest of the house. Thank you David.

Couldn't have chosen a better place to celebrate my 65th birthday.

Its a most wonderful house in beautiful surroundings and only a stones throw from home. Big is an understatement, it's huge with plenty of room for everyone. We didn't want to leave.

We have just returned from a family celebration at Wheelbarrow Castle.

It fitted our requirements perfectly. We even managed to sit everyone down in the dinning room (15 of us)! David was most welcoming and very helpful - our daughter-in-law arrived early and needed to work and he let her use his office! Everything we needed was provided and in abundance. The younger members loved the hot tub. We visited Berrington Hall which is near by and worth a visit. I don't think we could have found anywhere that better suited our needs. Thank you David.

House was just as described.

Very spacious for our family gathering so we could all spread out and not feel like we were on top of each other. The huge living room was perfect for all being together in the evenings with plenty of sofas for everyone to sit. The owner was very helpful, providing a small single bed so that the smaller children could all share a room. We had a brilliant stay and the children especially loved the hot tub!

The house was absolutely perfect, and was well set up to cater for a large group of people to stay.

We weren't expecting the beautiful view from the garden - it really was stunning. David warned us the WiFi could be slow, and that was indeed the case, hence the score on facilities but it wasn't an issue. Hot tub was fab. One small thing - having a dishcloth would be useful :)

Everything you need is provided at Wheelbarrow Castle - plenty of kitchen items which was a good bonus and we loved the large lounge which was our main focus on an evening for family get together’s enjoying a relaxing chat and playing fun family games.

It was a week for us without the need for TV and tablets/phones and we just had so much loved prime family time together which is priceless. There are walks directly from the cottage and there was loads of leaflets provided for walks locally and surrounding area. We were four families meeting together with various ages from 8 months to 65 - with the hot tub being a favourite with the teenagers. We were happy with our stay at Wheelbarrow Castle, it was a multi generation family stay to celebrate a big birthday and the house suited the occasion, there was enough room for all 15 of us plus the dogs and the location was great.

We made use of the hot tub which was a great extra to the property. We did think an additional fridge freezer would be beneficial. Overall we enjoyed the stay.

What an amazing house!

Our trip was from the 25th Feb to the 4th March. We were a party of 11 and ample space for all of us. The space in the house was perfect for us, we used 6 of the 7 bedrooms. Having various gathering rooms was great so that our party could space out, but our time was mostly spent in the dining room (huge dining table) and the sun room out to the garden. We made great use of the hot tub and the younger ones in our group used it every day, we were lucky to have good weather on the weekend. There was never an issue with cutlery and crockery as there is so much of it! Very well equipped, lots of pots and pans, well pretty much everything you can think of, right down to weighing scales. The kitchen is big and has a central work area (breakfast bar) so it was easy to cook meals for our large party. We have a few walkers in our group so they enjoyed venturing out and enjoying the beautiful surrounding area. We saw deer, wild horses and rabbits, pheasants, to name a few. We were lucky to have baby lambs in the field opposite the house who were a joy to watch in the mornings. Lots of games, cards and jigsaws were a must for us on the rainy days. We found a great pub called the Fisherman's Arms close by, only popped in for a snack! But the starter portions were huge. A very warm welcome from everyone. Monkland Cheese factory close by also worth a visit, where they make their own cheese and we had delicious warm cheese scones with our coffee. And a supermarket within 15 minutes was a bonus when we needed bits and bobs.David, the host at Wheelbarrow, very kind and attentive, nothing we needed was any trouble to him. As a family we have stayed in many cottages/houses across the UK and we all loved this one. Think the space and facilities top most of them! We would highly recommend Wheelbarrow Castle, would be great in the summer to make use of the garden area on warm evenings.Thanks David and Nicola

We had an absolute fantastic stay.

There were plenty of beds and bathroom for us all to be comfortable and lots of space to sit and relax. We loved the hot tub! The Wheelbarrow Castle really helped us to celebrate our uncles 50th Birthday in style. Thank you so much!

The house is enormous and although we never actually got round it doing it, ideal for a game of hide and seek! It had all the amenities we needed and was very warm and comfortable. An ideal place for getting together with a large group of friends and/or family.

Property is beautiful.

We hired the main house (Wheelbarrow castle) and the cottage next door for the additional space. The owner was lovely and very helpful at check in. The house is great for entertaining, sociable kitchen and dining room. Big lounge comfortably fitting everyone with a roaring fire (if needed) but the house was usually toasty and warm. Wish we could have stayed longer. Definitely recommend

Fantastic house for over a dozen adults plus a couple of infants and a dog.

The hot-tub was perfect and David was immediately on hand to fix a small issue with it. His excellent service also extended to resolving a problem with the WiFi, which is offered but doesn't quite reach the whole house. That said, there are more than enough distractions in both the area and the house itself, and though a couple of rooms are probably due a bit of a renovation it was clean, spacious and fully-featured. Only thing it maybe needs is another dishwasher but when there's 16 of you, you always need another dishwasher.

A huge house which has to be seen to be believed.

Lovely setting, lovely area, 5 minutes from Leominster which has plenty of facilities.

We had a wonderful week in Wheelbarrow Castle.

The house was clean and very well equipped. We all enjoyed the hot tub. David gave us a good introduction to the house and was on hand to answer a coue of queries when needed but otherwise left us to our own devices.

The host, David made sure to look after us and check everything was OK.

He was so helpful in anything we needed, the house is great for hosting themed nights, gatherings. We had such an amazing time over the weekend we felt no need to leave! Hot tub was well used, and perfect for breezier evenings. The garden area is great for a family bbq. Would definitely come again and recommend for large groups!

Clean and comfortable, good place for a large family gathering, and recommended for large group.

Children found it amazing fantastic, and good for adventures. Lacked kindling for fire if weather has been inclement. Outside amenities varied and welcome. Owner welcomed us and keen to please. Sadly the hot tub was expensive and not included in price, so we did not use it.

The Wheelbarrow castle is a beautiful very spacious house and we had a great week.

Although generally quite well equipped we found there were some minor things missing which makes the difference between 4 and 5 stars. The hot tub is great for instance but there is no stool/ladder to get in and out and it is needed. There is no microwave, and there was no clothes horse although the latter was quickly purchased by owner after we asked. The bedrooms are all a good size and most of the beds very comfortable (we found the bed in the massive master suite far too soft though and ended up giving this room to the teenage girls in our group. The beautiful downstairs bedroom is a twin and would benefit from being a double). Towards the front of the house the views are lovely. We also loved having dinners in the dining room around the huge table and it was great having a few different reception rooms as we were a big group. The owner lives next door and he was helpful whenever we had any queries. The courtyard is nice but could benefit from some more comfortable garden furniture. It took about 40mins to walk into Leominster or £22 in a taxi to Ludlow which is a beautiful little town.

The outside space (patio) which didn't seem to feature highly in the property photos was great.

Also even the 80 year olds climbed the stairs to explore the upper level garden and go for a walk. Its a shame the recycling bin was overflowing when we arrived and remained in that state for several days after. A general comment for improvement would be a look at how and where the cooking "pots" / utensils / plates and glasses are stored in the kitchen / "utility" Just seemed a little all over the place and perhaps in need of a freshen up. Great location and plenty of space in this wonderfully attractive building.

It is beautiful, comfortable and has plenty of space both in bedrooms and social areas, which works perfectly for our big get-togethers. The location is also great for a break from the usual busyness of life.

No - I've stayed with Sykes many times and have never been disappointed so I guess my expectations would now be difficult to exceed!

Wheelbarrow cottage is much larger than we were expecting.

Plenty of space for everyone. The children loved exploring. The two sitting rooms were ideal, so the children could play games in one and the adults take over the larger sitting room. It’s in a lovely part of the world and the children loved their walk at the pack of the house, seeing ponies and finding a potato field. We will definitely look to return.

Wheelbarrow Castle was ideal for the needs of our extended family holiday.

Just spent a week at Wheelbarrow Castle - three families with seven children ranging from 6-16 years old.

What an incredible place. So much space to enjoy and the views were great too. Lots of places to visit nearby (Ludlow castle, Croft castle, Berrington Hall, Queensland country park) where we could combine days out with the dogs too. Only small downsides for us were no local pub (village one sadly closed) and no enclosed garden. But they were minor as the house was great and gave us plenty of space to enjoy. Was great for hide and seek and for the Easter egg hunts we did!

The best holiday.

family gathering for a long time ages from 13 to 80 all had a fabulous time. Not a cobweb to be seen anywhere.

We were at Wheelbarrow Castle for Christmas week with our three sons, their wives and our seven grandchildren.

There was plenty of space for all of us and the accommodation very welcoming, clean and very warm. It was also very well decorated for Christmas with a lovely lit and decorated Christmas tree. We understood from the listing that the property was quite big. However, when we went inside it was like entering the Tardis. The property was quite a lot bigger than we had been expecting from the listing. There is plenty to do in the area with two National Trust properties within ten miles. Overall we had a brilliant Family Christmas. Many thanks to the owner. John & Gill Riley

Great for large family get together.

This was our second visit to Wheelbarrow Castle.

We returned because the combination of rooms suits our family group perfectly. We also love it because there is so much space and we never feel we are all on top of each other. There are a variety of living spaces so that adults and children can all find a space to suit their mood and activities - and there is a comfortable main sitting room where we can all gather without feeling crowded. The furnishings are homely and comfortable whilst also being tasteful and decorative - and the utility space is very helpful too. A lovely area to explore and lovely views from the front door. Highly recommended for families of about 14-16 people.

Wheelbarrow castle is an amazing venue.

It exceeded our expectations. It was perfect for our large family get together. Everything we needed was there and despite inclement weather we had the best time ever. Would love to go again next year.

Lovely house, perfect for a large family get together.

Unfortunately there was a wasp nest which the owner should have dealt with rather than just giving us Raid cans, so we where unable to use the courtyard and bbq. The house needs a deep clean as there were many established cobwebs. The whole family had a great weekend and the house was comfortable for both the adults and children to enjoy their time together. Brilliant kitchen for us all to use and enjoy cooking together.

Very straight forward booking process.

David (the owner) was fantastic before and at the point of arriving at the property, he took the time to explain the property lay out and was extremely welcoming and available to help should any problems arise. The property was well kitted out and had ample space for entertaining whatever the weather - the kitchen/dining area, as well as the outdoor seating area and big lounge (or the long room as we called it), were particularly impressive. The pictures really do not do the space and character of the property justice! It was a lovely private property with smashing views and proved to be in an ideal location for exploring Leominster, Ludlow and the surrounding area. Can't fault the experience of staying here.

Perfect house for a large family get together helped by owner David making us feel it was a home from home

Really lovely and comfortable house; having The Great Hall and the Second Lounge (our names for them) meant the kids and adults had their own spaces, and the bedrooms were very clean and comfortable.

For a cold February weekend away, the excellent heating was definitely a bonus! We would come back to Wheelbarrow Castle in a flash.

We visited for a family birthday - there were 15 of us in total (8 adults) and the house was absolutely perfect for us.

Very well appointed kitchen, large table to socialise and two lounges. The bedroom arrangements were flexible with 2 camp beds available which was great for the children. Nice grounds and plenty of parking. David was v helpful and welcoming and we would definitely visit again. Nice location to explore surroundings and the bowling / golf venue down the road served an excellent Sunday lunch for a v reasonable price in a great setting (The Grove I think).

This is a great holiday house!

It was perfect for a weekend with friends. It is in a beautiful location. The communal areas are great with the right number of seats, which can be difficult to find, and an amazing kitchen! A definite find!

Large home, big enough to accommodate our family party of 17 age range from 4-74!

We booked the home to celebrate an 18th birthday. We enjoyed the different sitting rooms - a tv room plus very large sitting room with log burner and the kitchen diner which could seat everyone and big enough for music and dancing! We liked having plenty of bathrooms too. Although a large house, it was very warm and cosy. The beds and pillows were comfortable too and the duvets kept you warm. Although situated in the countryside we walked into Leominster and to the Grove Golf and Bowl. We would definitely recommend Wheelbarrow Castle and hope we can stay again in the future. We found the owner David welcoming and helpful too.

Having just returned from wheelbarrow castle after celebrating a birthday where we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Dispite it's huge size it was a warm and welcoming place. We found the owner very helpful even returning some left items at his expense . Thank you. Hopefully we will be returning soon.

Lots of room for all the family. Recommend the local pub The Lamb Inn for good home made food, very welcoming.
