“My wife and I holiday in the UK every winter and Nadder Barn was the second cottage we've tried out in the Salisbury area.”
It is a lovely property and can be thoroughly recommended as a home-away-from-home for a couple (as in our case) or a family of four. Caroline, the owner, met us on arrival and showed us around. I was delighted to see (we took the property over Christmas week) the cottage beautifully decorated for Christmas, complete with tree and even crackers. A welcome hamper including bread, wine, milk, coffee and even a box of chocolates, was a very nice touch (some laundry liquid might have come in handy, though!). The owners encourage guests to use their beautifully-maintained garden, with a lovely lawn that adjoins the Nadder River, and the house is secured behind electric gates. Although it is in a built-up area about 150 metres from a railway line, we felt as if we were in the country and were not disturbed by noise from road traffic or trains (this was a concern for me as I am a very light sleeper). And despite the frosty -5°C we experienced one night, the central heating worked very well, keeping the house very snug and cosy. The only glitch we had was on our first evening, when we found the heating not working well. I reported this to the owner, who came in immediately and attended to it, calling in a plumber, who arrived within 15 minutes to fix the problem - being after dark during Christmas week, I am familiar enough with the UK to know this was nothing short of magic. There is a very nice 3-km footpath (“Broken Bridgesâ€, I believe it is called) nearby, that leads across the Nadder wetlands, which I recommend highly to anyone who enjoys walking. We also found the Lush House car park on Cranebridge Road a handy place to park and explore the city, a 5 minute walk to the cathedral and other attractions. I tend to be fastidious and picky about where we stay, but wrack my brains as I may, I cannot think a single negative thought about Nadder Barn: all in all, I couldn't recommend this property more and we hope to stay there again.
